In this paper, using the concept of completion, we establish the existence of approximate fixed points for contracting set-valued mappings defined in a metric space not necessarily assumed to be complete. As a consequence, we obtain approximate versions of the famous results of the global Contraction Mapping Principle and Nadler Fixed Point Theorem without completeness

Primary structure of scorpion anti-insect toxins isolated from the venom of Leiurus quinquestriatus quinquestriatus

AbstractThe amino acid sequences of insect-selective scorpion toxins, purified from the venom of Leiurus quinquestriatus quinquestriatus, have been determined by automatic phenyl isothiocyanate degradation of the S-carboxymethylated proteins and derived proteolytic peptides. The excitatory toxin Lqq IT1 and Lqq IT1' (70 residues) show the shift of one half-cystine from an external position, which is characteristic of anti-mammal toxins, to an internal sequence position. Lqq IT2, (61 residues) displays the half-cystine residue in position 12, common to the sequence of all known antimammal toxins; it induces flaccid paralysis on insects but is non-toxic for the mouse. Lqq IT2, structurally defines a new type of anti-insect toxins from scorpion venoms. CD spectra and immunological data are in agreement with this finding

Wheat germ in vitro translation to produce one of the most toxic sodium channel specific toxins

Envenoming following scorpion sting is a common emergency in many parts of the world. During scorpion envenoming, highly toxic small polypeptides of the venom diffuse rapidly within the victim causing serious medical problems. The exploration of toxin structure-function relationship would benefit from the generation of soluble recombinant scorpion toxins in Escherichia coli. We developed an in vitro wheat germ translation system for the expression of the highly toxic Aah (Androctonus australis hector)II protein that requires the proper formation of four disulphide bonds. Soluble, recombinant N-terminal GST (glutathione S-transferase)-tagged AahII toxin is obtained in this in vitro translation system. After proteolytic removal of the GST-tag, purified rAahII (recombinant AahII) toxin, which contains two extra amino acids at its N terminal relative to the native AahII, is highly toxic after i.c.v. (intracerebroventricular) injection in Swiss mice. An LD50 (median lethal dose)-value of 10 ng (or 1.33 pmol), close to that of the native toxin (LD50 of 3 ng) indicates that the wheat germ in vitro translation system produces properly folded and biological active rAahII. In addition, NbAahII10 (Androctonus australis hector nanobody 10), a camel single domain antibody fragment, raised against the native AahII toxin, recognizes its cognate conformational epitope on the recombinant toxin and neutralizes the toxicity of purified rAahII upon injection in mice

Notwithstanding the enthusiasm of the professional press for logistics innovation (LI) and the number of innovative logistics solutions accessible to firms, we observe a limited scientific production on this field of research, leaving uncertainties as regards the definition of the concept of LI and its management. From these observations, we tried to clarify the concept of LI using a state of the art and different qualitative methods (scientometric and bibliometric analysis, Delphi survey). Then we analyzed the process of LI adoption on the basis of four case studies. The empirical setting offers variety in the selection of the cases with technological or organizational oriented LIs adopted in different organizations (logistics service providers, retailer, manufacturer, private hospital). As for the concept of LI, we proposed a review of the current scientific production and a definition and characterisation of LI. As for the process of LI adoption, the research resulted in the identification of determinants related to the adoptive organization, the adopted LI, the strategic management of the adopting organization and the adopting personnel, as well as obstacles

[EN] This master’s thesis, framed within the project of the Glossarium Mediae Latinitatis Cataloniae (GMLC), offers the lexicographical study of the nouns that operate in the legal transactions that are attested in the Latin documentation written between the ninth and twelfth centuries in the territory corresponding to the linguistic domain of Catalan. The analysis of this legal lexicon has always been carried out starting from the Corpus Documentale Latinum Cataolinae (CODOLCAT). This documentation constitutes a very wide corpus, made up of more than 11,900 documents, and of a very diverse typology. The voices collected here have been presented in a systematic way in worksheets: motto, definition, variants, documentary typology, first documented testimony, dating, reference, GMLC note and, if applicable, comments. Therefore, the presence of Latin and the Romance language of this territory provides a determining source for the knowledge of Catalan in its pre-literary period, which often offers the oldest dating of many words in this language

The Postmigrant Author in the Danish Media : A Critical Discourse Analysis of the Danish Media’s Portrayal of the Postmigrant Author

    No full text
This study investigates the portrayal of three postmigrant authors in the Danish media. By critically analyzing 12 articles, the study explores the characteristic features of the media’s portrayal of the authors. The theoretical concepts postmigration and Nordic whiteness are applied to demonstrate how the 12 articles are portraying the three authors as non-white others. This portrayal is constructed by highlighting the authors non-white physical features and connecting them to the “ghetto”. This ultimately results in a migrantization of the authors and reproduces the “us” and “them” division, in the Danish postmigrant society. Thus, this study contributes to the academic research on postmigrant literature in Scandinavia by providing insights into the role of the media in relation to the literary trend of postmigrant literature. Further on, this thesis is a part of the academic tradition of critical whiteness studies in a Nordic context as well as in IMER studies.   Keywords: Postmigration literature, Denmark, media, whiteness, postmigrant author
