Non universality of entanglement convertibility
Recently, it has been suggested that operational properties connected to
quantum computation can be alternative indicators of quantum phase transitions.
In this work we systematically study these operational properties in 1D systems
that present phase transitions of different orders. For this purpose, we
evaluate the local convertibility between bipartite ground states. Our results
suggest that the operational properties, related to non-analyticities of the
entanglement spectrum, are good detectors of explicit symmetries of the model,
but not necessarily of phase transitions. We also show that thermodynamically
equivalent phases, such as Luttinger liquids, may display different
convertibility properties depending on the underlying microscopic model.Comment: 5 pages + references, 4 figures - improved versio
Equilibrium and Disorder-induced behavior in Quantum Light-Matter Systems
We analyze equilibrium properties of coupled-doped cavities described by the
Jaynes-Cummings- Hubbard Hamiltonian. In particular, we characterize the
entanglement of the system in relation to the insulating-superfluid phase
transition. We point out the existence of a crossover inside the superfluid
phase of the system when the excitations change from polaritonic to purely
photonic. Using an ensemble statistical approach for small systems and
stochastic-mean-field theory for large systems we analyze static disorder of
the characteristic parameters of the system and explore the ground state
induced statistics. We report on a variety of glassy phases deriving from the
hybrid statistics of the system. On-site strong disorder induces insulating
behavior through two different mechanisms. For disorder in the light-matter
detuning, low energy cavities dominate the statistics allowing the excitations
to localize and bunch in such cavities. In the case of disorder in the light-
matter coupling, sites with strong coupling between light and matter become
very significant, which enhances the Mott-like insulating behavior. Inter-site
(hopping) disorder induces fluidity and the dominant sites are strongly coupled
to each other.Comment: about 10 pages, 12 figure
Photonic superdiffusive motion in resonance radiation trapping
In this work we consider the relation between the jump length probability density function and the
line shape function in resonance radiation trapping in atomic vapors. The two-sided jump length
probability density function suitable for a unidimensional formulation of radiative transfer is also derived. As a side result, a procedure to obtain the Maxwell distribution of velocities from the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution of speeds was obtained. General relations that give the asymptotic
jump length behavior and the Lévy flight parameter niu for any line shape are obtained. The results
are applied to generalized Doppler, generalized Lorentz, and Voigt line shape functions. It is
concluded that the lighter the tail of the line shape function, the less heavy the tail of the jump length
probability density function, although this tail is always heavy, with niu <= 1
cualificados.SUMMARY -- The process of writing honours theses is based on
a set of general and specific competences which,
in the majority of cases, entail a high level of
abstraction and ambiguity. What is more, the
apparition of these competences has not helped
students towards a better understanding of the
extent to which they attain the objectives of their
various subjects, or to make better decisions as
regards the steps to follow in their professional
careers. The intention of this paper is to show the
results obtained during research whose objective
was to separate the general and specific
competences involved in the Computer
Engineering Degree in order to provide a much
more concrete and detailed approach to the
subjects, which will consequently allow the way
in which the subjects permit the partial or total
attainment of the competences for the degree to be
justified. This approach, and its orientation
towards obtaining metrics with which to evaluate
the degree to which the objectives have been
attained, will also allow students to make better
decisions when selecting various degree subjects
and to discover for which competences they are
best qualified.Peer Reviewe
Key role of anions in the 2D-3D electrochemical deposition of Rh on Ag electrodes
We have studied the electrochemical deposition of Rh on polycrystalline Ag substrates from electrolytes containing chloride and sulphate anions. Chronoamperometry and cyclic voltammetry have been employed in order to elucidate the growth mechanism. Anions play a key role in the growth mechanism and the resulting structures. In the presence of sulphate anions Rh deposition follows a 3D nucleation - growth mechanism, while a 2D nucleation - growth is obeyed in the case of electrolytes containing chloride anions. Ab initio thermodynamics studies support the hypothesis that chloride anions stabilize the Rh deposition favouring a 2D mechanism at low overpotentials in good agreements with the experimental data.Fil: Schulz, Eduardo Nicolás. Derechos económicos, sociales y culturales como límites a las políticas públicas: el caso del derecho a la educación en Chile
Concerning to the democratic legitimacy of a government it has become a common place to hold that the election by the citizens of a particular conglomerate to assume the government (democratic principle) gives it the legitimacy necessary and sufficient to implement public policies that its program or political contingency go demanding. The issue in discussion is whether public policy has or has not limit in human rights. Specifically, it will try to answer the question of whether it is legitimate and accordance with the law a public policy of a democratic government even though it threatens or injures social, economic and cultural rights. Specifically, we attempt to answer the issue whether it is legitimate and accordance with the law a public policy which does not fund the higher education state university and neither does not establish free the higher education in Chile, which is one of the most important social demands in recent years.
Endoscopic submucosal dissection for the treatment of early esophageal and gastric cancer - initial experience of a western center
BACKGROUND: Endoscopic submucosal dissection is a new Japanese technique characterized by en-bloc resection of the entire lesion irrespective of size, with lower local recurrence when compared to endoscopic mucosal resection. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the feasibility, early results and complications of the endoscopic submucosal dissection technique for treating early gastric and esophageal cancer at the Endoscopic Unit of Clinics Hospital and Cancer Institute of the São Paulo University. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty patients underwent endoscopic resection using the endoscopic submucosal dissection technique for early gastric or esophageal cancer. The patients were evaluated prospectively as to the executability of the technique, the short-term results of the procedure and complications. RESULTS: Sixteen gastric adenocarcinoma lesions and six esophageal squamous carcinoma lesions were resected. In the stomach, the mean diameter of the lesions was 16.2 mm (0.6-3.5 mm). Eight lesions were type IIa + IIc, four were type IIa and four IIc, with thirteen being well differentiated and three undifferentiated. Regarding the degree of invasion, five were M2, seven were M3, two were Sm1 and one was Sm2. The mean duration of the procedures was 85 min (20-160 min). In the esophagus, all of the lesions were type IIb, with a mean diameter of 17.8 mm (6-30 mm). Regarding the degree of invasion, three were M1, one was M2, one was M3 and one was Sm1. All had free lateral and deep margins. The mean time of the procedure was 78 min (20-150 min). CONCLUSION: The endoscopic submucosal dissection technique was feasible in our service with a high success rate
A randomised trial of the bone formation after maxillary sinus floor augmentation with bovine hydroxyapatite (Cerabone®) and Photobiomodulation: histomorphometric and immunohistochemical analysis
The use of non-autogenous biomaterial to increase bone height in the maxillary sinus has been shown to be effective, but the results are still inconclusive.Eight participants were selected and included in the research. After surgical access with osteotomy on the lateral wall of both maxillary sinuses, these were filled with Cerabone®. Then, by blind randomization, they received one of the following treatments: Filling with Cerabone® (Control group); treatment with Photobiomodulation (PBM), filling with Cerabone® and treatment with low-power laser (PBM group). Biopsies were obtained 30 days after the surgery, using a 2.8 mm internal diameter trephine bur. Qualitative and quantitative histological analyzes were performed and immunohistochemical analyzes of osteocalcin (OCN) and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) were performed with scores for each of the biological events. The Cerabone® biomaterial demonstrated a high degree of biocompatibility. New bone formation was observed in both groups. In the PBM group, there was greater bone formation and newly formed tissue in an advanced state of bone maturation. The immunostaining of OCN was greater at 30 days in the PBM group than in the control. There was no significant difference in TRAP immunostaining at 30 days between the groups.Low-power laser-mediated by PBM promoted greater bone formation; the newly formed tissue showed a more advanced state of bone maturation in maxillary sinuses filled with Cerabone® biomaterial and treatment with PBM, within the 30-day evaluation period
Statistics of Stellar Populations of Star Clusters and Surrounding Fields in the Outer Disk of the Large Magellanic Cloud
A comparative analysis of Washington color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) for 14
star clusters and respective surrounding fields in the Large Magellanic Cloud
(LMC) outer disk is presented. Each CCD frame including field and respective
cluster covers an area of 185 arcmin^2. The stellar population sampled is of
intermediate age and metallicity. CMD radial analysis involving star count
ratios, morphology and integrated light properties are carried out. Luminosity
functions (LFs) are also presented. Two main results are: (i) Within the range
4<R(kpc)<8, the distance from the LMC center is well correlated with the
average age in the sense that inner fields are younger and; (ii) Beyond
approximately 8kpc the outer fields do not show evidence of a significant
intermediate-age component in their stellar populations, as inferred from red
giant clump star counts.Comment: 27 pages, 4 tables, 11 figures; accepted by the A
