A Study of the impact of the adoption of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) on work productivity in the retail banking industry
Thesis(Master) -- KDI School: Master of Public Policy, 2020Automation is not a new phenomenon. The automation of activities have proven to be pivotal in productivity growth not only at the individual level, but at the business level and achieved the economies of scale.
One of the emerging technologies that has had a significant impact in the financial services industry is the adoption of Robotic Process Automation (RPA). IBS Intelligence (2019)’s report acknowledged that the RPA technology deploys “software robots to automate repetitive, rule-based, and high-volume tasks, has helped financial institutions in the phase of digital transformation”.
This research attempts to study the impact of RPA adoption in the South Korean retail banking industry in relation to work productivity through a quantitative analysis. Specifically, the study takes the attributes from the IT innovation theories to observe the front office bank employees’ behavior with the adoption of a new technology like RPA is introduced.
Data sources included analysis of financial reports of the major banks in South Korea and business journals. Then, data were collected from 62 front-office bank employees working at the two of the top five retail banks in South Korea with experiences of reassigning tasks to RPA bots.ABSTRACT

A Comparative Study Of Certification Systems Based On Ethical Codes Of Medical Information On The Internet
Access to medical information has increased all over the world with the increase in Internet usage. Therefore, it is imperative to ensure the quality of medical information on the Internet. In this study, nine organizations having ethical codes relating to medical information on the Internet were subjects. Of these, ethical codes were compared on the basis of form and content. The certification systems were compared on the basis of number of certified websites, number of certified countries, cost to certify, process of certification and term of certification. As this result, here were only a few differences in form although each ethical code emphasized different content. It is unclear which certification system was the best, as all had advantages and disadvantages. The promotion of a certification system needs support from governments or other organizations. In conclusion, we propose three steps to ensure quality and control medical information online: (1) update the ethical code at least annually, (2) work with other organizations to enforce ethical codes and certification systems, and (3) raise awareness of these approaches
Long-term survivor diagnosed with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy/dysplasia
The subject was a 70 year-old man who survived for 31 years after being diagnosed with right
ventricular cardiomyopathy, having undergone right ventricular (RV) aneurysmectomy at the
age of 39. His arrhythmia and syncopal attacks were effectively abolished after the original
aneurysmectomy. Although he frequently suffered from right heart failure, hemodialysis improved
his status. However, the patient died due to worsening anasarca caused by RV low
output syndrome. Autopsy results indicated extensive replacement of the RV myocardium with
fibrous and fatty tissues. This case suggests that patients with arrhythmogenic RV cardiomyopathy,
but without left ventricular abnormalities and rapid ventricular arrhythmia, have
a relatively favorable prognosis, although RV abnormalities may be progressive
African American Ethnic and Class-Based Identities on the World Wide Web: Moderating the Effects of Self-Perceived Information Seeking/Finding and Web Self-Efficacy
The web is a potentially powerful tool for communicating information to diverse audiences. Unfortunately, all groups are not equally represented on the web, and this may have implications for online information seeking. This study investigated the role of class- and ethnic-based identity in self-perceived web-based information seeking/finding and self-efficacy. A questionnaire is administered, asking African Americans about their class and ethnic identities and web use to test a conceptual model predicting that these identities are positively related to web-based information seeking and web self-efficacy, which are then positively related to web-based information finding. Gender and previous web experience are expected to moderate the relationships. Structural equations modeling of these data support most of the predictions and indicate that these identities influence perceptions of online information seeking
筋強直性ジストロフィー1型における脳卒中に関する危険因子の臨床的特徴
Objective: Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder with highly variable phenotypic expression. Some patients have diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and/or arrhythmias, which are risk factors for stroke. However, the mechanism of stroke is poorly understood in patients with DM1. We studied the characteristics of risk-factor profiles for stroke associated with DM1. Patients and methods: We studied 77 patients with DM1 (45 men and 32 women) on the basis of the patients’ clinical histories and laboratory and genetic examination results. Results: The analysis showed that 26 patients (34%) had dyslipidemia, and 16 (21%) had diabetes. Arrhythmias were diagnosed in 46 patients (61%), including 11 (14%) with atrial fibrillation and 9 (12%) with conduction defects. Echocardiographic abnormalities were found in 28 patients (37%). Eight patients (11%) met the criteria for metabolic syndrome. We identified 2 patients (2.6%) with ischemic stroke caused by cardiogenic embolism among 77 patients with DM1. One had paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and sick sinus syndrome, and the other had cardiac dysfunction with an ejection-fraction of 35% and dyslipidemia. Both patients had highly expanded numbers of CTG repeats (1000 and 1500). Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first study to report a comprehensive analysis of risk-factor profiles for stroke in patients with DM1. Stroke is a relatively rare, but severe complication of DM1. Our results indicate that it is important to manage risk factors for stroke, especially cardiac involvement and arrhythmias.博士(医学)・乙第1392号・平成29年3月15日Copyright: © 2016 Sugie M, et al. Extramitochondrial OPA1 and adrenocortical function
We have previously described that silencing of the mitochondrial protein OPA1 enhances mitochondrial 27
Ca2+ signaling and aldosterone production in H295R adrenocortical cells. Since extramitochondrial OPA1 28
(emOPA1) was reported to facilitate cAMP-induced lipolysis, we hypothesized that emOPA1, via the 29
enhanced hydrolysis of cholesterol esters, augments aldosterone production in H295R cells. A few 30
OPA1 immunopositive spots were detected in �40% of the cells. In cell fractionation studies OPA1/COX 31
IV (mitochondrial marker) ratio in the post-mitochondrial fractions was an order of magnitude higher 32
than that in the mitochondrial fraction. The ratio of long to short OPA1 isoforms was lower in post-mito- 33
chondrial than in mitochondrial fractions. Knockdown of OPA1 failed to reduce db-cAMP-induced phos- 34
phorylation of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), Ca2+ signaling and aldosterone secretion. In conclusion, 35
OPA1 could be detected in the post-mitochondrial fractions, nevertheless, OPA1 did not interfere with 36
the cAMP – PKA – HSL mediated activation of aldosterone secretio
