The article deals with the problem of apprehension of Siberia as a particular mythological space in linguistic consciousness of the Slavs. The researchers study the etymological roots of toponym transformation. They try to understand why Siberia acts as a sacral place with complex network of associative fields. The authors consider the problem, why Siberia is perceived as an analogue to Tartarus, a peculiar purgatory and alongside with that, a place of obtainment of superhuman powers and abilities. At the same time, the researchers show the ways of formation of toponymical synopsis in language consciousness of the Russians. © IDOSI Publications, 2014

The results of investigation of the growth mechanism of SnS thin films prepared by hydrochemical deposition by means of a scanning probe microscopy are presented. According to the results of a comparative analysis of layers morphology at different growth stages and the use of fractal formalism growth model of SnS films by clustercluster aggregation with elements of self-organization is proposed. It is shown that there is a solid layer, which again are deposited particles of the solution. The process has expressed periodic self-organizing nature. The study showed that the proposed model of film growth SnS when hydrochemical deposition agrees well with ex-periments and proves difficult coagulation mechanism of the formation of hard phase of the saturated aqueous solution.

Upper limit on the ultra-high-energy photon flux from AGASA and Yakutsk data

We present the interpretation of the muon and scintillation signals of ultra-high-energy air showers observed by AGASA and Yakutsk extensive air shower array experiments. We consider case-by-case ten highest energy events with known muon content and conclude that at the 95% confidence level (C.L.) none of them was induced by a primary photon. Taking into account statistical fluctuations and differences in the energy estimation of proton and photon primaries, we derive an upper limit of 36% at 95% C.L. on the fraction of primary photons in the cosmic-ray flux above 10^20 eV. This result disfavors the Z-burst and superheavy dark-matter solutions to the GZK-cutoff problem.Comment: revtex, 8 pages, 4 figure

    Non-conservative Evolution of Cataclysmic Variables

We suggest a new mechanism to account for the loss of angular momentum in binaries with non-conservative mass exchange. It is shown that in some cases the loss of matter can result in increase of the orbital angular momentum of a binary. If included into consideration in evolutionary calculations, this mechanism appreciably extends the range of mass ratios of components for which mass exchange in binaries is stable. It becomes possible to explain the existence of some observed cataclysmic binaries with high donor/accretor mass ratio, which was prohibited in conservative evolution models.Comment: LaTeX, 32 pages, to be published in Astron. The article describes one of the possible ways of building more eff ective relationships between managers and subordinates, taking into account variable range of individual motivation, capabilities and potential of people belonging to diff erent types of employees. The topic is urgent due to the changes in modern business processes that require new approaches to management. Goal/objectives. Our aim is to develop an approach to the creation of human resources management model that takes into account not only the knowledge and skills of employees, but also their deeper individual characteristics. The approach accounts for the hierarchy of one's life values and drives, temperament, strains, habitual and unfamiliar social roles, way of thinking, preferred pattern of communication, peculiarities of the behavior in power relations and a host of other features. We suggest that asking them into account is an incredible opportunity for productivity growth and team eff ectiveness improvements.Methodology. The theoretical basis of the article are studies of Russian and foreign authors on the classifications and typologies of personality, of social roles, roles in the team, as well as subordinate types. The article refl ects the results of studies and observations of the authors on the peculiarities of manifestation of diff erent types of people in decision-making and business communications.Results. We suggest the typology of subordinates describing the key characteristics and preferences of representatives of the types. The typology allows to build relationships between managers and subordinates more eff ectively.Conclusions/significance. We propose typology of subordinates that can be used to develop management models focused on certain types of employees. This, in turn, may be useful for structuring of human management, retrieval of unused but eff ective management tools, and for building an eff ective staff -management relations network as a whole to achieve business targets / KPI.

The Atmospheric Chemistry Suite (ACS) of Three Spectrometers for the ExoMars 2016 Trace Gas Orbiter

    Get PDF
The Atmospheric Chemistry Suite (ACS) package is an element of the Russian contribution to the ESA-Roscosmos ExoMars 2016 Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) mission. ACS consists of three separate infrared spectrometers, sharing common mechanical, electrical, and thermal interfaces. This ensemble of spectrometers has been designed and developed in response to the Trace Gas Orbiter mission objectives that specifically address the requirement of high sensitivity instruments to enable the unambiguous detection of trace gases of potential geophysical or biological interest. For this reason, ACS embarks a set of instruments achieving simultaneously very high accuracy (ppt level), very high resolving power (>10,000) and large spectral coverage (0.7 to 17 μm—the visible to thermal infrared range). The near-infrared (NIR) channel is a versatile spectrometer covering the 0.7–1.6 μm spectral range with a resolving power of ∼20,000. NIR employs the combination of an echelle grating with an AOTF (Acousto-Optical Tunable Filter) as diffraction order selector. This channel will be mainly operated in solar occultation and nadir, and can also perform limb observations. The scientific goals of NIR are the measurements of water vapor, aerosols, and dayside or night side airglows. The mid-infrared (MIR) channel is a cross-dispersion echelle instrument dedicated to solar occultation measurements in the 2.2–4.4 μm range. MIR achieves a resolving power of >50,000. It has been designed to accomplish the most sensitive measurements ever of the trace gases present in the Martian atmosphere. The thermal-infrared channel (TIRVIM) is a 2-inch double pendulum Fourier-transform spectrometer encompassing the spectral range of 1.7–17 μm with apodized resolution varying from 0.2 to 1.3 cm−1. TIRVIM is primarily dedicated to profiling temperature from the surface up to ∼60 km and to monitor aerosol abundance in nadir. TIRVIM also has a limb and solar occultation capability. The technical concept of the instrument, its accommodation on the spacecraft, the optical designs as well as some of the calibrations, and the expected performances for its three channels are described

Correlation between p-GaN growth environment with electrical and optical properties of blue LEDs

Two blue (450 nm) light–emitting diodes (LED), which only differ in top p-GaN layer growth conditions, were comparatively investigated. I-V, C-V, TLM, Electroluminescence (EL) and Photoluminescence (PL) techniques were applied to clarify a correlation between MOCVD carrier gas and internal properties. The A-structure grown in the pure N2 environment demonstrated better parameters than the B-structure grown in the N2/H2 (1:1) gas mixture. The mixed growth atmosphere leaded to an increase of sheet resistances of p-GaN layer. EL and PL measurements confirmed the advantage of the pure N2 utilization, and C(VR) measurement pointed the increase of static charge concentration near the p-GaN interface in the B structure
