    THE ANALYSIS OF PUNCTUATION USE IN UNPUNCTUATED PASSAGES: A DISCOURSE-GRAPHOLOGY PERSPECTIVE

    Diski Eginda Rismianti. 14111310149. The Analysis of Punctuation Use in Unpunctuated Passages: A Discourse-Graphology Perspective. Punctuation is the basic element in writing which is important to clarify meaning. Without punctuation or ignoring the rule of punctuation in a passage, the writing will be ambiguous. The writing course in IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon is studied by English Student in 5 levels. Based the phenomenon, this research aims to find out the students’ error in the use of punctuation and how does the use relate to the meaning of restrictive and nonrestrictive elements. The analyses process in this research is constructed based on the theory from Marcella Frank. This research used qualitative method in analyzing data where the data contains the two original passages which is taken from the book of academic writing and the three participants’ work which are got by examining the passages as a main data source to be analyzed in this research. Those passages are changed be unpunctuated passages then examined to the 3 EFL learner which comes from the high score, medium score, and low score of writing. The result of this analysis shows that there are fifteen punctuation marks which are used in the two passages; they are capitalization, periods, commas, semicolons, colons, quotation marks, parentheses, apostrophes, hyphen, en dashes, ellipses, percent, underscore, at sign, and citation. FP has highest number of error in Capitalization with 100%. SP has big problem in commas exactly in the nineteenth rule with 90% and TP are wrong in parentheses. For restrictive and nonrestrictive elements, restrictive elements has higher number than nonrestrictive elements, except is in appositive. The numbers of the elements are same with the three participants. The differences come from the number of appositive which passages has higher number of nonrestrictive appositive than restrictive appositives. The results show that punctuation in unpunctuated passages used the rule from APA (American Psychological Association). The effects of the use of punctuation are in the number of sentences and clauses, types of phrases, and restrictive and nonrestrictive elements. For the students’ error, there are some sentences in FP and TP which only contain phrase.     Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor apa sajakah yang mempengaruhi penjualan jasa travel pada CV. Inhil Jaya Tembilahan dan faktor apa yang paling dominan mempengaruhinya. Hipotesis yang diajukan dalam penelitian ini adalah diduga faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi penjualan jasa travel pada CV. Inhil Jaya Tembilahan adalah faktor promosi, harga dan kualitas pelayanan. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah data sekunder yang diperoleh dari CV. Inhil Jaya Tembilahan dan data primer yang diperoleh dari penyebaran kuesioner kepada 99 orang responden. Data yang digunakan adalah metode Regresi linier berganda dengan SPSS versi.12. Persamaan regresi linear berganda dalam analisis sebagai berikut Y = 0,798 a + 0,280 X 1 + 0,203 X 2 + 0,371 X + Đ” Berdasarkan hasil analisis diperoleh hasil bahwa koefisien variabel 3 promosi 0,280, harga 0,203 dan kualitas pelayanan 0,371 bernilai positif. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi nilai dari ketiga variabel tersebut maka penjualan jasa travel akan semakin meningkat. Berdasarkan nilai koefisien determinasi R 2 / square, diperoleh 0,490 atau sebesar 49,0%. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ketiga variabel bebas secara bersama-sama memberikan pengaruh terhadap variabel terikat sebesar 49,0%. Sedangkan sisanya 51,0 % dipengaruhi oleh variabel lain yang tidak diteliti data penelitian ini. Berdasarkan uji t diperoleh nilai t variabel penelitian yaitu promosi (3,194), harga (2,361) dan kualitas pelayanan (4,534). Faktor yang paling dominan adalah kualitas pelayanan dengan nilai t hitung sebesar 4,534 > t 1,98. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini penulis menyarankan kepada pihak tabel perusahaan untuk lebih meningkatkan pelayanan pasca penjualan, menjaga hubungan baik sesama teman/saudara agar informasi promosi perusahaan lebih dikenal lagi oleh orang banyak, meningkatkan dan menggunakan strategi promosi yang lebih tepat, memberikan diskon kepada konsumen, meningkatkan lagi sikap ramah kepada tiap konsumen agar konsumen tersebut lebih nyaman dan jadwal keberangkatan yang tepat waktu

    DESAIN DIDAKTIS KONSEP VOLUME BANGUN RUANG SISI DATAR UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN PENALARAN MATEMATIS SISWA SMP

    Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya pemahaman konsep geometri dan rendahnya kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa SMP pada konsep volume bangun ruang sisi datar. Terkait permasalahan tersebut, perlu dirancang alternatif pembelajaran dalam memahami konsep geometri serta dapat mengembangkan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa. salah satunya adalah mendesain situasi pembelajaran yang mengaplikasi penggunaan kemampuan penalaran matematis dengan mempertimbangkan learning obstacle, learning trajectory, dan respon siswa yang dituangkan dalam suatu desain didaktis. Perancangan desain pembelajaran yang dimaksud dilakukan dalam sebuah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan tahapan Didactical Design Research (DDR), yang dimulai dari penemuan learning obstacle yang muncul pada pembelajaran konsep volume bangun ruang sisi datar di salah satu SMP kota Jambi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis terhadap learning obstacle tersebut kemudian disusun hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) sebagai acuan merancang desain didaktis hipotesis. Hasil studi mengidentifikasi learning obstacle, yaitu ontogenical obstacle, didactical obtacle, dan epistemological obstacle yang meliputi (1) yaitu terbatasnya pengetahuan konsep prasyarat siswa yaitu pengetahuan tentang konsep bangun datar segitiga dan segi empat serta jenis-jenis bangun ruang sisi datar, (2) terbatasnya kemampuan matematika dasar siswa seperti operasi bilangan desimal, (3) rendahnya motivasi belajar siswa, (4) keterbatasan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa, (5) siswa tidak terfasilitasi dengan baik dalam memaknai konsep, (6) sajian materi tidak memfasilitasi siswa untuk melakukan aksi dan formulasi, (7) Penyajian gambar bangun ruang yang tidak mempermudah siswa untuk memahami bangun ruang sisi datar (8) Sajian materi tidak memfasilitasi siswa untuk melakukan penalaran, (9) keterbatasan pemahaman siswa terhadap permasalahan non-rutin, (10) keterbatasan pemahaman siswa dalam pemecahan masalah penalaran matematis. Berdasarkan temuan learning obstacle tersebut disusunlah hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) dilanjutkan dengan perancangan desain didaktis hipotesis dengan memanfaatkan LKPD bantuan GeoGebra sebagai upaya mengurangi learning obstacle dan diharapkan dapat mengembangkan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa. The background of this research is the lower understanding among junior high school students regarding geometric concepts as well as their mathematical reasoning ability in the volume concept of polyhedron. Related to these problems, it is necessary to design learning alternatives in understanding geometric concepts and which enable students to develop their mathematical reasoning abilities. One of the solutions is designing learning situations which implement the use of mathematical reasoning abilities by considering the learning obstacles, learning trajectories, and student responses as outlined in the didactic design. The design of the intended learning design was carried out in a qualitative study using the Didactical Design Research (DDR) stages, which began with the discovery of learning obstacles that arose in the learning of the volume concept of polyhedron in one of junior high schools in Jambi. Based on the results of the analysis of the learning obstacles, a hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) was then prepared as a reference for designing hypothetical didactic designs. The results of the study identified learning obstacles, namely ontogenical obstacles, didactical obstacles, and epistemological obstacles which included (1) limited knowledge of students' prerequisite concepts, namely knowledge of the concept of triangular and rectangular shapes and types of polyhedron, (2) limitations students' basic mathematical concepts related to the operation of decimal number (3) lower learning motivation of students, (4) limited students' mathematical reasoning abilities, (5) students are lacking supported in interpreting the concepts, (6) presentation material does not facilitate students to perform their action and formulation, (7) students are struggling to comprehend presentation of geometrical shapes (8) presentation material does not ease the students in performing reasoning, (9) limitations of students' understanding of non-routine problems, and, (10) limitations of students' understanding in solving mathematical reasoning problems. Based on the findings of these learning obstacles, a hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) was prepared, followed by designing a hypothetical didactic design by utilizing the GeoGebra-assisted LKPD as an effort to reduce learning obstacles and expected to develop students' mathematical reasoning abilities

    A number of commentators have suggested that the riots in England in August 2011 were distinctive because of the character and extent of the looting that took place. In doing so they have argued that the nature of modern consumer capitalism should be placed front and centre of any explanation of the disorder. Whilst concurring with elements of such arguments, we depart from such analyses in three ways. First, we argue that it is important not to overstate the extent to which the 2011 riots were a departure from previous outbreaks of civil disorder - violent consumerism having a quite lengthy history. Second, using testimony from those involved, we argue that a focus on looting risks ignoring both the political character and the violence involved in the riots. Finally, and relatedly, we suggest that the focus on consumption potentially simplifies the nature of the looting itself by underestimating its political and expressive characteristics

    Analisis Hambatan Belajar (Learning Obstacles) Dalam Pembelajaran Geometri: Literatur Review

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi dan mengidentifikasi hambatan belajar yang sering terjadi di SMP pada beberapa materi  geometri selama lima tahun terakhir. Penelitian ini merupakan studi literatur dengan menganalisis hasil penelitian sebelumnya  yang identik. Dengan tahapan yaitu (1) mengidentifikasi artikel-artikel yang mengkaji hambatan belajar pada materi geometri, (2) menganalisis hambatan belajar yang ditemukan dalam mempelajari geometri, (3) mengidentifikasi kesamaan hambatan belajar dari beberapa materi geometri. Berdasarkan enam artikel utama yang di analisis dalam penelitian ini ditemukan beberapa hambatan belajar yang sering muncul pada materi di geometri yaitu: (1) hambatan ontogenik, yaitu kurangnya kemampuan dasar geometri yang dimiliki siswa dan materi yang yang diajarkan tidak disesuaikan dengan kemampuan yang telah dimiliki oleh siswa, (2) hambatan didaktik  meliputi (a) materi pada bahan ajar yang tidak di susun dengan benar dan terdapat kesalahan konsep pada bahan ajar yang di gunakan, (b) guru mengajarkan konsep yang tidak sesuai dengan konsep yang seharusnya, (3) hambatan epistemologis yaitu (a) kurangnya materi prasyarat yang telah dimiliki siswa untuk mempelajari materi yang sedang berlangsung, (b) materi yang di ajarkan hanya dari satu konteks, dan tidak dikaitkan dengan beberapa konteks yang berbeda

    This study aims to describe juvenile delinquency in terms of the form, causes, and effects of delinquency carried out by adolescents contained in the novel Dilan Dia adalah Dilanku by Pidi Baiq. This type of research is a qualitative study using descriptive methods with data in the form of words, phrases, clauses, or sentences that indicate the problems of adolescent life in the novel. The results of this study prove that the novel shows juvenile delinquency and is depicted not much different from the reality of adolescent life today. Based on data analysis, juvenile delinquency contained in the novel is reviewed from (1) the form of juvenile delinquency in the form of delinquency that causes physical casualties, delinquency that results in material casualties, social delinquency that does not cause victims, delinquency which is against status; (2) the causes of juvenile delinquency in the form of negative nature that leads to damage, lack of self-control and social perception, inability to adapt to environmental changes, lack of creative hobbies or healthy hobbies, less effective supervision in coaching, lack of understanding of adolescents from the environment of adolescents, and family ignorance in dealing with adolescent problems; (3) the impact of juvenile delinquency in the form of adolescents themselves, for families, and for society

    Conflict with the police is a staple of civil disorder and the English riots of 2011 were no exception. The antagonism towards the police expressed by the rioters varied in intensity – from a low-­‐level anger stemming from occasional negative experiences on the one hand to outright, visceral hostility on the other – but was visible everywhere riots took place. Leading politicians dismissed this hostility as nothing more than the typical wariness criminals have of the police. Indeed, it is undoubtedly the case that the police are an easy target for rioters seeking to explain away their conduct. Nevertheless, drawing on 270 interviews with people involved in the riots this paper shows that for some involved the police were a very deliberate and specific focus of anger and resentment. The basis of such feelings was complex and variable, but included historically poor relations between the police and particular communities, an inherited distrust of the police as an institution, to more particular and immediate experiences of mistreatment and prejudice – often coalescing around the perceived misuse of police powers such as stop and search
