This research aims to examine the story problems of elementary mathematics teacher candidates in the field of algebra, which are suitable for real-life situations. For this purpose, it was tried to determine the pre-service teachers' preferred grade level, sublearning area, and outcomes while creating a real-life story problem for the field of algebra learning. In addition, the relationship between story problems and outcomes, the reasons for choosing the grade level and sub-learning area, and the issues they paid attention to while creating the story problems are among the questions sought to be answered in the research. The research was designed according to the case study model. The study group the research consists of 35 elementary mathematics teacher candidates studying at the undergraduate level. 57% of the participants are female, and 43% male teacher candidates. In the study group selection, a non-random convenient sampling method was preferred. The algebra study instruction developed by the researchers was used as a data collection tool. In addition to the outcome(s) in the field of algebra learning, there are some questions that the participants should answer in the study guide. Descriptive and content analysis were used in the analysis of the data. According to the findings, most pre-service teachers were at the eighth-grade level, and inequalities created story problems suitable for a real-life situation related to the sub-learning domain. Pre-service teachers gave place to technology association in story problems. The pre-service teachers stated that they aimed to attract the students' attention and make them love mathematics while creating story problems. While creating the story problems, the most attention was paid to using actual data and originality. It has been suggested to increase pre-service teachers' awareness about the algebra learning field and encourage them to pose problems by the nature of their daily life situations

Gaziantep is a city with many civilizations and cultural architectural heritage from past to present. There are historical buildings and inns area along the axis, which is declared as a cultural route, starting from the vicinity of the castle in the city centre of Gaziantep. Historical inns, which were used for accommodation and trade in the past, have lost their function over time. These inns, which cannot be used in today's conditions, were left to disappear as idle areas as the city centre lost its charm. In this study, it is aimed to identify the problems experienced in the district of inns and determine their missing functions and needs. In addition, it is desired to emphasize that the user types who use the region differ in their interpretations of the region. In line with the identified problems, suggestions were made for the revitalization of the region and the refunctioning of the inns. In order to achieve these goals, questionnaires were created in line with the interviews with the temporary and stationary users in the region and the literature review. As the scope of the study, the inns area on the Gaziantep cultural road has been examined. The questionnaires were applied to the participants in this area, by face to face interview method and the answers of the participants were noted on site. The obtained data were statistically analyzed. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the historical value of the region should be understood by the users, and in this context, the inns and other historical structures in the region should be regularly repaired and the idle areas should be re-functioned. It is thought that the revitalization of historically important buildings and the region and their sustainability are possible by determining the existing problems.

    Get PDF
Objective:The influence of pulp status on orthodontically induced root resorption has attracted attention. The purpose of this study was to compare orthodontically induced root resorption in endodontically treated teeth and their contralateral vital teeth in a split-mouth design. Methods:The sample included 173 patients who had at least one endodontically treated tooth, and their vital contralateral teeth served as the control group before the completion of orthodontic treatment. Apical root resorption measurements were performed by the comparison of digital panoramic X-ray images obtained at the beginning and at the end of the orthodontic treatment. Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U, and Wilcoxon tests were used for statistical analysis. Results:There was no statistically significant difference in apical root resorption between the endodontically treated teeth and the contralateral teeth (p>0.05). Sex and tooth type had no effect on apical root resorption both in the endodontically treated teeth and the contralateral vital teeth (p>0.05). Orthodontic treatment with extraction caused more apical root resorption in the vital teeth than in the endodontically treated teeth (p0.05).Conclusion:Endodontic treatment does not produce greater apical root resorption compared with the vital teeth

Current barriers and recommendations on the diagnosis of transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy: a Delphi study

    Get PDF
ObjectivesThis study has been conducted to investigate the non-invasive diagnostic journey of patients with a transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (aTTR-CM) in Turkey, identify the challenges and uncertainties encountered on the path to diagnosis from the perspectives of expert physicians, and develop recommendations that can be applied in such cases.MethodsThis study employed a three-round modified Delphi method and included 10 cardiologists and five nuclear medicine specialists. Two hematologists also shared their expert opinions on the survey results related to hematological tests during a final face-to-face discussion. A consensus was reached when 80% or more of the panel members marked the “agree/strongly agree” or “disagree/strongly disagree” option.ResultsThe panelists unanimously agreed that the aTTR-CM diagnosis could be established through scintigraphy (using either 99mTc-PYP, 99mTc-DPD, or 99mTc-HMPD) in a patient with suspected cardiac amyloidosis (CA) without a further investigation if AL amyloidosis is ruled out (by sFLC, SPIE and UPIE). In addition, scintigraphy imaging performed by SPECT or SPECT-CT should reveal a myocardial uptake of Grade ≥2 with a heart-to-contralateral (H/CL) ratio of ≥1.5. The cardiology panelists recommended using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and a detailed echocardiographic scoring as a last resort before considering an endomyocardial biopsy in patients with suspected CA whose scintigraphy results were discordant/inconclusive or negative but still carried a high clinical suspicion of aTTR-CM.ConclusionThe diagnostic approach for aTTR-CM should be customized based on the availability of diagnostic tools/methods in each expert clinic to achieve a timely and definitive diagnosis

    No full text
WOS: 000277956300009This paper presents an experimental and theoretical investigation of drying of moist slab, cylinder and spherical products to study dimensionless moisture content distributions and their comparisons. Experimental study includes the measurement of the moisture content distributions of slab and cylindrical carrot, slab and cylindrical pumpkin and spherical blueberry during drying at various temperatures (e.g., 30, 40, 50 and 60A degrees C) at specific constant velocity (U = 1 m/s) and the relative humidity phi = 30%. In theoretical analysis, two moisture transfer models are used to determine drying process parameters (e.g., drying coefficient and lag factor) and moisture transfer parameters (e.g., moisture diffusivity and moisture transfer coefficient), and to calculate the dimensionless moisture content distributions. The calculated results are then compared with the experimental moisture data. A considerably high agreement is obtained between the calculations and experimental measurements for the cases considered. The effective diffusivity values were evaluated between 0.741 x 10(-5) and 5.981 x 10(-5) m(2)/h for slab products, 0.818 x 10(-5) and 6.287 x 10(-5) m(2)/h for cylindrical products and 1.213 x 10(-7) and 7.589 x 10(-7) m(2)/h spherical products using the Model-I and 0.316 x 10(-5)-5.072 x 10(-5) m(2)/h for slab products, 0.580 x 10(-5)-9.587 x 10(-5) m(2)/h for cylindrical products and 1.408 x 10(-7)-13.913 x 10(-7) m(2)/h spherical products using the Model-II.Karadeniz Technical University [2004.112.003.01]; Turkish Republic Prime Ministry State Planning Organization (DPT) [2003K120750]; Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA)The authors acknowledge the financial support provided by Karadeniz Technical University Research Fund under Grant No 2004.112.003.01 and the Turkish Republic Prime Ministry State Planning Organization (DPT) under grant no 2003K120750.
