Factors identified with higher levels of career satisfaction of physicians in Andalusia, Spain

    Get PDF
The satisfaction of physicians is a worldwide issue linked with the quality of health services; their satisfaction needs to be studied from a multi-dimensional perspective, considering lower- and higher-order needs. The objectives of this study were to: i) measure the career satisfaction of physicians; ii) identify differences in the dimensions of career satisfaction; and iii) test factors that affect higherand lower-order needs of satisfaction among physicians working in Andalusian hospitals (Spain). Forty-one percent of 299 eligible physicians participated in a study conducted in six selected hospitals. Physicians reported higher professional, inherent, and performance satisfaction than personal satisfaction. Foreign physicians reported higher levels of personal and performance satisfaction than local physicians, and those who received nonmonetary incentives had higher professional and performance satisfaction. In conclusion, physicians in the selected Andalusian hospitals reported low levels of personal satisfaction. Non-monetary incentives were more relevant to influence their career satisfaction. Further investigations are recommended to study differences in the career satisfaction between foreign and local physicians

Synthesis and (spectro)electrochemistry of mixedvalent diferrocenyl–dihydrothiopyran derivatives

Three novel diferrocenyl complexes were prepared and characterised. 2,2-Diferrocenyl-4,5-dimethyl- 3,6-dihydro-2H-thiopyran (1, sulphide) was accessible by the hetero-Diels–Alder reaction of diferrocenyl thioketone with 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene. Stepwise oxidation of 1 gave the respective oxides 2,2- diferrocenyl-4,5-dimethyl-3,6-dihydro-2H-thiopyran-1-oxide (2, sulfoxide) and 2,2-diferrocenyl-4,5- dimethyl-3,6-dihydro-2H-thiopyran-1,1-dioxide (3, sulfone), respectively. The molecular structures of 1 and 3 in the solid state were determined by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The oxidation of sulphide 1 to sulfone 3, plays only a minor role on the overall structure of the two compounds. Electrochemical (cyclic voltammetry (= CV), square wave voltammetry (= SWV)) and spectroelectrochemical (in situ UV-Vis/NIR spectroscopy) studies were carried out. The CV and SWV measurements showed that an increase of the sulphur atom oxidation from −2 in 1 to +2 in 3 causes an anodic shift of the ferrocenylbased oxidation potentials of about 100 mV. The electrochemical oxidation of 1–3 generates mixedvalent cations 1+–3+. These monooxidised species display low-energy electronic absorption bands between 1000 and 3000 nm assigned to IVCT (= Inter-Valence Charge Transfer) electronic transitions. Accordingly, the mixed-valent cations 1+–3+ are classified as weakly coupled class II systems according to Robin and Day.Authors (K. K. and G. The Atlantic Forest is one of the richest and most threatened biomes in Brazil. However, the structure and floristic composition of many of its remnants are still unknown. This study assessed the structure and tree composition of the Serra da Tiririca – SET coastal remnant, is the largest remnant in Serra da Tiririca State Park – PESET (Atlantic Forest, RJ). In ten 50 × 20 m plots installed between the edges and the interior of the remnant, we registered 403 trees distributed in 29 families, 59 genera, and 126 species. The richest and most abundant families were Fabaceae, Myrtaceae, and Meliaceae, while the most representative species were Gallesia integrifolia towards the interior of the remnant and Piptadenia gonoacantha towards the edges. The remnant had an average Shannon-Wiener Diversity of 3.69, a total basal area of 19.3 m2/ha, and an average diameter and height of 20.42 cm and 11.8 m, respectively. This study shows that the SET remnant is floristically heterogeneous and has distinct structural characteristics and stretches in different successional stages related to edge and interior gradients. Anthropogenic pressures on the remnant are likely to persist and are evidenced mainly by the forest structure.
