    Non-Abelian Quantum Hall Effect in Topological Flat Bands

    Inspired by recent theoretical discovery of robust fractional topological phases without a magnetic field, we search for the non-Abelian quantum Hall effect (NA-QHE) in lattice models with topological flat bands (TFBs). Through extensive numerical studies on the Haldane model with three-body hard-core bosons loaded into a TFB, we find convincing numerical evidence of a stable ν=1\nu=1 bosonic NA-QHE, with the characteristic three-fold quasi-degeneracy of ground states on a torus, a quantized Chern number, and a robust spectrum gap. Moreover, the spectrum for two-quasihole states also shows a finite energy gap, with the number of states in the lower energy sector satisfying the same counting rule as the Moore-Read Pfaffian state.Comment: 5 pages, 7 figure

    Fractional Quantum Hall Effect of Hard-Core Bosons in Topological Flat Bands

    Recent proposals of topological flat band (TFB) models have provided a new route to realize the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) without Landau levels. We study hard-core bosons with short-range interactions in two representative TFB models, one of which is the well known Haldane model (but with different parameters). We demonstrate that FQHE states emerge with signatures of even number of quasi-degenerate ground states on a torus and a robust spectrum gap separating these states from higher energy spectrum. We also establish quantum phase diagrams for the filling factor 1/2 and illustrate quantum phase transitions to other competing symmetry-breaking phases.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure

    The title complex, [Er(C5H5NO)(C2O4)(H2O)]n, is a new erbium polymer based on oxalate and 4-oxidopyridinium ligands. The ErII center is coordinated by six O atoms from three oxalate ligands, one O atom from a 4-oxidopyridinium ligand and one water mol­ecule, and displays a distorted square-anti­prismatic coordination geometry. The oxalate ligands are both chelating and bridging, and link ErII ions, forming Er–oxalate layers in which the attached water and 4-oxidopyridinium units point alternately up and down. A mirror plane passes through the Er atom, one C, the oxide O and two oxalate O atoms. The layers are assembled into a three-dimensional supra­molecular network via inter­molecular hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking inter­actions [centroid–centroid distances of 3.587 (2) Å between parallel pyridinium rings]. Both the water mol­ecule and the 4-oxidopyridinium ligand are disordered over two sites in a 1:1 ratio

    A novel context ontology to facilitate interoperation of semantic services in environments with wearable devices

    The LifeWear-Mobilized Lifestyle with Wearables (Lifewear) project attempts to create Ambient Intelligence (AmI) ecosystems by composing personalized services based on the user information, environmental conditions and reasoning outputs. Two of the most important benefits over traditional environments are 1) take advantage of wearable devices to get user information in a nonintrusive way and 2) integrate this information with other intelligent services and environmental sensors. This paper proposes a new ontology composed by the integration of users and services information, for semantically representing this information. Using an Enterprise Service Bus, this ontology is integrated in a semantic middleware to provide context-aware personalized and semantically annotated services, with discovery, composition and orchestration tasks. We show how these services support a real scenario proposed in the Lifewear project

    Elliptical Galaxies with Emission Lines from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

    We present the results of 11 elliptical galaxies with strong nebular emission lines during our study of star formation history along the Hubble sequence. After removing the dilution from the underlying old stellar populations by use of stellar population synthesis model, we derive the accurate fluxes of all emission lines for these objects, which are later classified with emission line ratios into one Seyfert 2, six LINERs and four HII galaxies. We also identify one HII galaxy (A1216+04) as a hitherto unknown Wolf-Rayet galaxy from the presence of the Wolf-Rayet broad bump at 4650 \AA. We propose that the star-forming activities in elliptical galaxies are triggered by either galaxy-galaxy interaction or the merging of a small satellite/a massive star cluster, as already suggested by recent numerical simulations

    Regulation of macrophage apoE secretion and sterol efflux by the LDL receptor

    Factors that regulate apolipoprotein E (apoE) secretion by macrophages will have important effects on vessel wall lipid flux and atherosclerosis. Macrophages express the LDL receptor, which binds apoE with high affinity and could thereby affect the net secretion of apoE from macrophages. In these studies, we demonstrate that treatment of J774 macrophages transfected to constitutively express a human apoE3 cDNA with simvastatin, to increase LDL receptor activity, reduces the secretion of apoE. To further examine the relationship between LDL receptor expression and apoE secretion from macrophages, mouse peritoneal macrophages (MPMs) were isolated from mice with constitutively high expression of human LDL receptor to increase overall LDL receptor expression by 2- to 3-fold. Cells with increased LDL receptor expression also showed reduced apoE secretion compared with MPMs with basal LDL receptor expression. The effect of changes in LDL receptor expression on apoE secretion was isoform-specific, with greater reduction of apoE4 compared with apoE3 secretion and no reduction of apoE2 secretion, paralleling the known affinity of each isoform for LDL receptor binding. The effect of the LDL receptor on apoE secretion for each isoform was further reflected in LDL receptor-dependent changes in apoE-mediated cholesterol efflux.     The MALATANG Survey : The L GAS-L IR Correlation on Sub-kiloparsec Scale in Six Nearby Star-forming Galaxies as Traced by HCN J = 4 → 3 and HCO + J = 4 → 3

The Version of Record is available online at https://doi.org/10.3847/1538-4357/aac512.We present HCN J = 4→3 and HCO+ J = 4→3 maps of six nearby star-forming galaxies, NGC 253, NGC 1068, IC 342, M82, M83, and NGC 6946, obtained with the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope as part of the MALATANG survey. All galaxies were mapped in the central 2×2 region at 14 (FWHM) resolution (corresponding to linear scales of ∼0.2-1.0 kpc). The LIR-Ldense relation, where the dense gas is traced by the HCN J = 4→3 and the HCO+ J = 4→3 emission, measured in our sample of spatially resolved galaxies is found to follow the linear correlation established globally in galaxies within the scatter. We find that the luminosity ratio, LIR/Ldense, shows systematic variations with LIR within individual spatially resolved galaxies, whereas the galaxy-integrated ratios vary little. A rising trend is also found between LIR/Ldense ratio and the warm-dust temperature gauged by the 70 μm/100 μm flux ratio. We find that the luminosity ratios of IR/HCN (4-3) and IR/HCO+ (4-3), which can be taken as a proxy for the star formation efficiency (SFE) in the dense molecular gas (SFE dense), appear to be nearly independent of the dense gas fraction ( f dense) for our sample of galaxies. The SFE of the total molecular gas (SFEmol) is found to increase substantially with f dense when combining our data with those on local (ultra)luminous infrared galaxies and high-z quasars. The mean LHCN(4-3) LHCO+(4-3) line ratio measured for the six targeted galaxies is 0.9±0.6. No significant correlation is found for the L'HCN(4-3) L'HCO+(4-3) ratio with the star formation rate as traced by L IR, nor with the warm-dust temperature, for the different populations of galaxies.Peer reviewe

    The Knee of the Cosmic Hydrogen and Helium Spectrum below 1 PeV Measured by ARGO-YBJ and a Cherenkov Telescope of LHAASO

    The measurement of cosmic ray energy spectra, in particular for individual species, is an essential approach in finding their origin. Locating the "knees" of the spectra is an important part of the approach and has yet to be achieved. Here we report a measurement of the mixed Hydrogen and Helium spectrum using the combination of the ARGO-YBJ experiment and of a prototype Cherenkov telescope for the LHAASO experiment. A knee feature at 640+/-87 TeV, with a clear steepening of the spectrum, is observed. This gives fundamental inputs to galactic cosmic ray acceleration models

    Measurements of psi(2S) decays to octet baryon-antibaryon pairs

    With a sample of 14 million psi(2S) events collected by the BESII detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC), the decay channels psi(2S)->p p-bar, Lambda Lambda-bar, Sigma0 Sigma0-bar, Xi Xi-bar are measured, and their branching ratios are determined to be (3.36+-0.09+-0.24)*10E-4, (3.39+-0.20+-0.32)*10E-4, (2.35+-0.36+-0.32)*10E-4, (3.03+-0.40+-0.32)*10E-4, respectively. In the decay psi(2S)->p p-bar, the angular distribution parameter alpha is determined to be 0.82+-0.17+-0.04.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure
