Protein Identification of Spermatozoa and Seminal Plasma in Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus)

Departamento de Reproducción animalProteins play an important role in many reproductive functions such as sperm maturation, sperm transit in the female genital tract or sperm-oocyte interaction. However, in general, little information concerning reproductive features is available in the case of aquatic animals. The present study aims to characterize the proteome of both spermatozoa and seminal plasma of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) as a model organism for cetaceans. Ejaculate samples were obtained from two trained dolphins housed in an aquarium. Spermatozoa and seminal plasma were analyzed by means of proteomic analyses using an LC-MS/MS, and a list with the gene symbols corresponding to each protein was submitted to the DAVID database. Of the 419 proteins identified in spermatozoa and 303 in seminal plasma, 111 proteins were shared by both. Furthermore, 70 proteins were identified as involved in reproductive processes, 39 in spermatozoa, and 31 in seminal plasma. The five most abundant proteins were also identified in these samples: AKAP3, ODF2, TUBB, GSTM3, ROPN1 for spermatozoa and CST11, LTF, ALB, HSP90B1, PIGR for seminal plasma. Treatment with tocilizumab or corticosteroids for COVID-19 patients with hyperinflammatory state: a multicentre cohort study (SAM-COVID-19)

Objectives: The objective of this study was to estimate the association between tocilizumab or corticosteroids and the risk of intubation or death in patients with coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) with a hyperinflammatory state according to clinical and laboratory parameters. Methods: A cohort study was performed in 60 Spanish hospitals including 778 patients with COVID-19 and clinical and laboratory data indicative of a hyperinflammatory state. Treatment was mainly with tocilizumab, an intermediate-high dose of corticosteroids (IHDC), a pulse dose of corticosteroids (PDC), combination therapy, or no treatment. Primary outcome was intubation or death; follow-up was 21 days. Propensity score-adjusted estimations using Cox regression (logistic regression if needed) were calculated. Propensity scores were used as confounders, matching variables and for the inverse probability of treatment weights (IPTWs). Results: In all, 88, 117, 78 and 151 patients treated with tocilizumab, IHDC, PDC, and combination therapy, respectively, were compared with 344 untreated patients. The primary endpoint occurred in 10 (11.4%), 27 (23.1%), 12 (15.4%), 40 (25.6%) and 69 (21.1%), respectively. The IPTW-based hazard ratios (odds ratio for combination therapy) for the primary endpoint were 0.32 (95%CI 0.22-0.47; p < 0.001) for tocilizumab, 0.82 (0.71-1.30; p 0.82) for IHDC, 0.61 (0.43-0.86; p 0.006) for PDC, and 1.17 (0.86-1.58; p 0.30) for combination therapy. Other applications of the propensity score provided similar results, but were not significant for PDC. Tocilizumab was also associated with lower hazard of death alone in IPTW analysis (0.07; 0.02-0.17; p < 0.001). Conclusions: Tocilizumab might be useful in COVID-19 patients with a hyperinflammatory state and should be prioritized for randomized trials in this situatio

Acompañamiento al proceso de mentoria Fundación Universitaria Panamericana

Este proyecto esta orientado a la realización de un acompañamiento al proceso de mentoria que se implementa en los primeros y segundos semestres de la jornada diurna (mañana y tarde), de la Fundación Universitaria Panamericana. Esta mentoria se encarga de acompañar y orientar a los estudiantes en su desarrollo académico, personal y social; el proceso de mentoria es aplicado a la jornada diurna puesto que en ella se presenta una vulnerabilidad en temas como la deserción académica, orientación vocacional, manejo de relaciones y conflictos en esferas interpersonales. En la jornada nocturna este proceso no es implementado, puesto que se considera que esta es una población que tiene claridad en cuanto a sus objetivos y metas a nivel académico, personal y profesional, sin embargo, se hace necesario hacer una orientación en temas como: adaptación a la vida universitaria y proyecto de vida, fortaleciendo en ellos su carácter y personalidad a partir de aprendizajes, experiencias y reflexiones. Por ultimo este proyecto educativo se direcciona desde dos estrategias, la primera orientada a la vinculación de los padres en un programa llamado Escuela de Padres que tendrá como fin la formación e información sobre diversidad de problemáticas que alimentan la deserción académica. La segunda estrategia tendrá como objetivo el desarrollo pleno y armonioso de los estudiantes que tiene en común la característica de manejar dos roles el laboral y el académico, que por motivos ajenos a ellos no tienen el acompañamiento del programa de mentoríaThis project is oriented to the realization of an accompaniment to the mentoring process that is implemented in the first and second semesters of the day shift (morning and afternoon), of the Pan-American University Foundation. Proposal of intervention for the development of emotions through body language in early childhood education

La expresión corporal en la etapa de Educación Infantil es el primer sistema de comunicación que le permite a los niños establecer relación con los demás, y la calidad de este contacto determinará en el niño confianza en sí mismo, en los otros y su gusto por la relación social. Dada la importancia de la educación emocional en esta etapa educativa por su papel relevante en la construcción de la personalidad e interacción social, el objetivo de este trabajo es valorar la importancia del tratamiento de las emociones a través de la expresión corporal en la segunda etapa de Educación Infantil (3-6 años), desarrollando una propuesta de intervención educativa que muestre los beneficios de la educación emocional en el desarrollo integral del niño.
