The portuguese banks are grounded : a view of evolution, performance and CSR on the big five portuguese banks

The financial crisis in Portugal has brought profound changes. The Portuguese standard of living and the banking health has decreased considerably, and with it, the confidence in the sector. It is fundamental for the proper functioning of the country's economy that there is complete restructuring not only within the banks but also in people’s trust of the sector. This dissertation aims to study how the Portuguese perceive the Portuguese banking sector and its Corporate Social Responsibility. The study is divided into two components, the analysis of general banking perceptions and the analysis of the perceptions of five different banking entities: BPI, Caixa Geral de Depósitos and Millennium BCP, Novo Banco and Santander. In order to make this possible, a questionnaire was carried out and analyzed based on quantitative and qualitative data. The results reveal a deep dissatisfaction with the banking sector, with its performance, evolution and lack of social responsibility initiatives. The adoption of CSR initiatives are fundamental to the perception of the banking evolution. Findings show that the more the population believes the banks are playing an active and environmental role, the more people recognize its initiatives as genuine and not for marketing purposes.A crise financeira em Portugal trouxe profundas alterações. O nível de vida dos portugueses e a saúde bancária diminuiu consideravelmente, e com ela, a confiança no sector. É fundamental para o bom funcionamento da economia do país que haja uma restruturação completa não só nos bancos, mas também, na confiança dos indivíduos para com eles. Esta dissertação tem como objetivo estudar de que forma os Portugueses percecionam a banca Portuguesa e a sua Responsabilidade Social Corporativa. O estudo divide-se em duas componentes, a análise das perceções da banca em geral e a análise das perceções de cinco entidades bancárias diferentes: BPI, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Millennium BCP, Novo Banco e Santander. Para que tal seja possível prossegue-se à realização de um questionário e á sua análise com base em dados quantitativos e qualitativos. Os resultados revelam um profundo descontentamento com o sector bancário, com a sua performance, evolução e responsabilidade social. A adoção de iniciativas de CSR são fundamentais para a perceção da evolução da banca, uma vez que a perceção da evolução é mais favorável quanto mais a população acredita que esta tem um papel ativo e fundamental a nível social e ambiental e classifica a as suas iniciativas como genuínas e não com propósito de marketing

The influence of online-user generated reviews on portuguese travellers´ decision-making process

difusão de novas ferramentas de comunicação, como o Electronic Word-of-Mouth (eWOM), facilitou a interação com conteúdo online. Os comentários online, uma das suas formas, são maioritariamente utilizados para informar consumidores, sendo particularmente relevantes em tomadas de decisão turística, como provado por investigações prévias. Nesta dissertação, centrámo-nos em turistas Portugueses para perceber a influência de comentários com diferente valência no seu comportamento. Adereçando as questões iniciais (RQs), foi desenvolvido um design experimental: os participantes foram expostos a comentários predominantemente positivos (PPR) ou predominantemente negativos (PNR). Os dados analisados focaram o efeito na atitude relativamente a um hotel (ATH) e intenções de reserva (BI), considerando a influência da conformidade dos indivíduos ao longo de diferentes momentos de planeamento turístico: Fase Inicial (IS) e Fase Tardia (LS). No total, foram analisadas 302 respostas. Concluiu-se que os PPR e PNR influenciam diferentemente a ATH e BI dos turistas, considerando momentos distintos de planeamento turístico. Em ambos os momentos, o efeito da valência demonstrou-se mais influente em indivíduos com elevado nível de conformidade. Os resultados são relevantes para empresas turísticas, principalmente hotéis, pois evidenciam os benefícios e as consequências que o eWOM pode ter na sua performance. Limitações são explicadas e sugestões para investigação futura são indicadas.The diffusion of new communication tools, such as Electronic Word-of-Mouth (eWOM), facilitated the engagement with online content. One of its forms, online reviews, is mainly used to inform customers, being particularly relevant concerning travellers’ decision-making process, as proven by previous research. In this dissertation, Portuguese travellers were targeted to understand how their behaviours change when exposed to differently valenced reviews. In order to address the Research Questions (RQs), an experimental design was implemented: the participants were exposed to predominantly positive (PPR) or predominantly negative reviews (PNR). The data was analysed for the effects on attitude towards a hotel (ATH) and booking intentions (BI), considering the influence of individuals’ conformity along different travel planning moments: Initial Stage (IS) and Later Stage (LS). In total, 302 answers were analysed. It was concluded that PPR and PNR differently influence travellers’ ATH and BI, considering distinct travel planning moments. At both moments, the effect of valence was more influential concerning individuals that were high in conformity. The findings are relevant to touristic companies, particularly to hotels, since they evince the benefits and the damages eWOM may generate on their performance. Limitations are explained and suggestions for future research are indicated

ENTRE NÓS: UM EXPERIMENTO DE ESCRITA ENTRE MULHERES TRAMADO PELA POTÊNCIA ERÓTICA

É possível criar, pelo meio da escrita, um corpo de mulher consagrado à outra coisa que não à dominação (RANCIÉRE, 2010)? E a qual outra coisa? Que afetos devem ser invocados como paixões inapropriadas (RANCIÉRE, 2010) à situação de dominação para que a escrita de uma mulher se liberte desse tipo de armadilha? O que acontece entre as escritas e as mulheres quando estas e aquelas se encontram pelas tramas da ficção num ritual de magia literária? É possível que um trabalho de divulgação cultural seja um meio através do qual Eros trespasse a escrita para testar a eficácia (STENGERS, 2008) de poemas em que mulheres amam mulheres na proliferação de escritas mulheris? Neste artigo, busco chegar a uma realização experimental (STENGERS, 2017) na qual estas perguntas sejam postas à prova ao chamar para pensar junto, numa prática de escrita participativa, as potências eróticas manifestas nas escritas de Safo de Lesbos, Virginia Woolf (2007), Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, Audre Lorde (1984), Adrienne Rich (1980) e Starhawk (1999). Não pretendo chegar a respostas conclusivas para estes questionamentos, mas sim tramar para que este experimento funcione como uma indução (STENGERS, DESPRET, et al. 2014) capaz de suscitar outras perguntas e outras escritas

UM RITUAL PARA A CORPORREATIVAÇÃO

O presente artigo se propõe a tentar fazer de si uma situação que funcione como uma realização experimental (STENGERS, 2017) onde o conceito de corporreativação possa atuar como parceiro na invenção de si mesmo. Tomando como guias três obras de gêneros, épocas e lugares distintos – um ensaio sobre a relação entre mulheres e ficção de Virginia Woolf, A room of one’s own (2007), publicado pela primeira vez em 1929; um manual de bruxaria da bruxa e ativista Starhawk, The Spiral Dance (1999), publicado pela primeira vez em 1979; e um ensaio da filósofa das ciências Isabelle Stengers, Reativar o animismo (2017), publicado originalmente em 2012; se busca criar um método de trabalho em que seja possível encontrar a corporreativação em seu próprio meio – a ficção. Também serão convidadas como parceiras de experimentação algumas poetas que vieram ao encontro dessa escrita invocadas nos rituais de corporreativação dos quais a autora deste trabalho vem tomando parte desde abril de 2018

Governance and sustainable regional development : the case of Santa Maria Technopark

O surgimento de um parque tecnológico pode ser uma consequência do desenvolvimento de uma região. Como também, pode ser o agente para que isso ocorra. Ao se estudar os mecanismos e contingências da gestão, é usual se deparar à conjuntura de adaptação das organizações, a fatores de cultura e sociedade e de melhor utilização de recursos naturais. De caráter exploratório-descritivo, é um estudo qualitativo, o qual tem por objetivo analisar como a governança existente no Santa Maria Tecnoparque influência para o Desenvolvimento Regional Sustentável da cidade.The creation of a technology park can be a consequence of the development of a region. It can also be the agent for this to occur. By studying the mechanisms and contingency management, it is common to come across the situation of adapting organizations, culture factors and society and better use of natural resources. Proyecto pedagógico de aula orientado a la novelización multimodal de Pereira, para el fortalecimiento de la producción de textos narrativos tipo libro-álbum en estudiantes de grado 11

Esta investigación surge de la necesidad de trabajar la producción textual desde otras narrativas, esto se lleva a cabo mediante un proyecto pedagógico de aula en grado 11. Se tiene como premisa el contexto pereirano (novelización de Pereira). Además, se alude al texto multimodal y a las narrativas visuales como herramientas pedagógicas para la realización de un texto significativo. El proyecto pedagógico tiene como meta final la construcción de un libro-álbum en el que se vea reflejada la historia de Pereira, todo esto se llevará a cabo por medio de 12 metas. En términos teóricos el proyecto tiene como base el lenguaje, el lenguaje escrito, el lenguaje visual, la producción de texto narrativo, la novelización, la multimodalidad y el proyecto pedagógico de aula, con el fin de dar respuesta a la problemática de producción textual. El marco metodológico de este trabajo tiene un enfoque investigativo de tipo cualitativo básico no aplicado, con un diseño de carácter etnometodológico de nivel descriptivo, orientada a una población de estudiantes de grado 11

Drug interactions and adverse events in elderly heart disease patients

Chronic and multiple diseases are more prevalent in elderly individuals and, epidemiological highlight can be given to cardiovascular conditions requiring multi-drug therapies, which favor the occurrence of drug interactions. This study aims to analyze potential drug interactions and correlate them with adverse events in elderly heart-disease patients in a hospital setting. This is a prospective description of the analysis of medical prescriptions and records of 80 patients, with data collection performed by using validated instruments during a seven-month period. The drug interactions found were indicated by scientifically recognized databases and subsequently treated statistically with adequate software. 1841 potential interactions between drugs were detected, of which 74.1% did not show any therapeutic benefits, with antithrombotic and analgesic drugs accounting for the worst results. Thenumber of potential interactions was proportional to the occurrence of adverse events, classified at 87.3% as moderate to severe. It is concluded from such results that there is a proportionality between the occurrence of potential drug interactions and the detection of adverse events, with therapeutic management being of great importance for safety, quality and affordability of the treatment

Quality of life in patients with chronic kidney disease

AIM: To compare the dimensions of quality of life in the stages of chronic kidney disease and the influence of sociodemographic, clinical and laboratory data. INTRODUCTION: The information available on the quality of life of patients on conservative treatment and the relationship between the quality of life and glomerular filtration rate is limited. METHODS: 155 patients in stages 1-5 of chronic kidney disease and 36 in hemodialysis were studied. Quality of life was rated by the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form 36-Item (SF-36) and functional status by the Karnofsky Performance Scale. Clinical, laboratory and sociodemographic variables were investigated. RESULTS: Quality of life decreased in all stages of kidney disease. A reduction in physical functioning, physical role functioning and in the physical component summary was observed progressively in the different stages of kidney disease. Individuals with higher educational level who were professionally active displayed higher physical component summary values, whereas men and those with a higher income presented better mental component summary values. Older patients performed worse on the physical component summary and better on the mental component summary. Hemoglobin levels correlated with higher physical component summary values and the Karnofsky scale. Three or more comorbidities had an impact on the physical dimension. CONCLUSION: Quality of life is decreased in renal patients in the early stages of disease. No association was detected between the stages of the disease and the quality of life. It was possible to establish sociodemographic, clinical and laboratory risk factors for a worse quality of life in this population
