A light-front coupled cluster method
A new method for the nonperturbative solution of quantum field theories is
described. The method adapts the exponential-operator technique of the standard
many-body coupled-cluster method to the Fock-space eigenvalue problem for
light-front Hamiltonians. This leads to an effective eigenvalue problem in the
valence Fock sector and a set of nonlinear integral equations for the functions
that define the exponential operator. The approach avoids at least some of the
difficulties associated with the Fock-space truncation usually used.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure; to appear in the proceedings of LIGHTCONE 2011,

Multipole Amplitudes of Pion Photoproduction on Nucleons up to 2GeV within Dispersion Relations and Unitary Isobar Model
Two approaches for analysis of pion photo- and electroproduction on nucleons
in the resonance energy region are checked at using the results of
GWU(VPI) partial-wave analysis of photoproduction data. The approaches are
based on dispersion relations and unitary isobar model. Within dispersion
relations good description of photoproduction multipoles is obtained up to
. Within unitary isobar model, modified with increasing energy by
incorporation of Regge poles, and with unified Breit-Wigner parametrization of
resonance contributions, good description of photoproduction multipoles is
obtained up to .Comment: 23 pages, LaTe
Improved reference genome of Aedes aegypti informs arbovirus vector control.
Female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes infect more than 400 million people each year with dangerous viral pathogens including dengue, yellow fever, Zika and chikungunya. Progress in understanding the biology of mosquitoes and developing the tools to fight them has been slowed by the lack of a high-quality genome assembly. Here we combine diverse technologies to produce the markedly improved, fully re-annotated AaegL5 genome assembly, and demonstrate how it accelerates mosquito science. We anchored physical and cytogenetic maps, doubled the number of known chemosensory ionotropic receptors that guide mosquitoes to human hosts and egg-laying sites, provided further insight into the size and composition of the sex-determining M locus, and revealed copy-number variation among glutathione S-transferase genes that are important for insecticide resistance. Using high-resolution quantitative trait locus and population genomic analyses, we mapped new candidates for dengue vector competence and insecticide resistance. AaegL5 will catalyse new biological insights and intervention strategies to fight this deadly disease vector
Optical Spectra of SNR Candidates in NGC 300
We present moderate-resolution (<5A) long-slit optical spectra of 51 nebular
objects in the nearby Sculptor Group galaxy NGC 300 obtained with the 2.3 meter
Advanced Technology Telescope at Siding Spring Observatory, Australia. Adopting
the criterion of [SII]/Ha>=0.4 to confirm supernova remnants (SNRs) from
optical spectra, we find that of 28 objects previously proposed as SNRs from
optical observations, 22 meet this criterion with six showing [SII]/Ha of less
than 0.4. Of 27 objects suggested as SNRs from radio data, four are associated
with the 28 previously proposed SNRs. Of these four, three (included in the 22
above) meet the criterion. In all, 22 of the 51 nebular objects meet the
[SII]/Ha criterion as SNRs while the nature of the remaining 29 objects remains
undetermined by these observations.Comment: Accepted for publication in Astrophysics & Space Scienc
Measurements of the Sigma_c^0 and Sigma_c^{++} Mass Splittings
Using a high statistics sample of photoproduced charmed particles from the
FOCUS experiment at Fermilab (FNAL-E831), we measure the mass splittings of the
charmed baryons Sigma_c^0 and Sigma_c^{++}. We find M(Sigma_c^0 - Lambda_c^+) =
167.38 +/- 0.21 +/- 0.13 MeV/c^2 and M(Sigma_c^++ - Lambda_c^+) = 167.35 +/-
0.19 +/- 0.12 MeV/c^2 with samples of 362 +/- 36 and 461 +/- 39 events,
respectively. We measure the isospin mass splitting M(Sigma_c^++ - Sigma_c^0)
to be -0.03 +/- 0.28 +/- 0.11 Mev/c^2. The first errors are statistical and the
second are systematic.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
An approach to construct wave packets with complete classical-quantum correspondence in non-relativistic quantum mechanics
We introduce a method to construct wave packets with complete classical and
quantum correspondence in one-dimensional non-relativistic quantum mechanics.
First, we consider two similar oscillators with equal total energy. In
classical domain, we can easily solve this model and obtain the trajectories in
the space of variables. This picture in the quantum level is equivalent with a
hyperbolic partial differential equation which gives us a freedom for choosing
the initial wave function and its initial slope. By taking advantage of this
freedom, we propose a method to choose an appropriate initial condition which
is independent from the form of the oscillators. We then construct the wave
packets for some cases and show that these wave packets closely follow the
whole classical trajectories and peak on them. Moreover, we use de-Broglie Bohm
interpretation of quantum mechanics to quantify this correspondence and show
that the resulting Bohmian trajectories are also in a complete agreement with
their classical counterparts.Comment: 15 pages, 13 figures, to appear in International Journal of

Demonstration of the temporal matter-wave Talbot effect for trapped matter waves
We demonstrate the temporal Talbot effect for trapped matter waves using
ultracold atoms in an optical lattice. We investigate the phase evolution of an
array of essentially non-interacting matter waves and observe matter-wave
collapse and revival in the form of a Talbot interference pattern. By using
long expansion times, we image momentum space with sub-recoil resolution,
allowing us to observe fractional Talbot fringes up to 10th order.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figure
Single Spin Asymmetry in Polarized Proton-Proton Elastic Scattering at GeV
We report a high precision measurement of the transverse single spin
asymmetry at the center of mass energy GeV in elastic
proton-proton scattering by the STAR experiment at RHIC. The was measured
in the four-momentum transfer squared range \GeVcSq, the region of a significant interference between the
electromagnetic and hadronic scattering amplitudes. The measured values of
and its -dependence are consistent with a vanishing hadronic spin-flip
amplitude, thus providing strong constraints on the ratio of the single
spin-flip to the non-flip amplitudes. Since the hadronic amplitude is dominated
by the Pomeron amplitude at this , we conclude that this measurement
addresses the question about the presence of a hadronic spin flip due to the
Pomeron exchange in polarized proton-proton elastic scattering.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figure
Longitudinal double-spin asymmetry and cross section for inclusive neutral pion production at midrapidity in polarized proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV
We report a measurement of the longitudinal double-spin asymmetry A_LL and
the differential cross section for inclusive Pi0 production at midrapidity in
polarized proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV. The cross section was
measured over a transverse momentum range of 1 < p_T < 17 GeV/c and found to be
in good agreement with a next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculation.
The longitudinal double-spin asymmetry was measured in the range of 3.7 < p_T <
11 GeV/c and excludes a maximal positive gluon polarization in the proton. The
mean transverse momentum fraction of Pi0's in their parent jets was found to be
around 0.7 for electromagnetically triggered events.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. D (RC
