On multidimensional analogs of Melvin's solution for classical series of Lie algebras
A multidimensional generalization of Melvin's solution for an arbitrary
simple Lie algebra is presented. The gravitational model contains n
2-forms and scalar fields, wheren is the rank of . The
solution is governed by a set of n functions obeying n ordinary differential
equations with certain boundary conditions. It was conjectured earlier that
these functions should be polynomials (the so-called fluxbrane polynomials). A
program (in Maple) for calculating of these polynomials for classical series of
Lie algebras is suggested (see Appendix). The polynomials corresponding to the
Lie algebra D_4 are obtained. It is conjectured that the polynomials for A_n-,
B_n- and C_n-series may be obtained from polynomials for D_{n+1}-series by

This debate article discusses how topical the approach of the Critique of the Political Economy of Media/Communication is today. The paper analyses the status of this field. At the international level, there is a longer tradition in the Critical Political Economy of Media/Communication, especially in the United Kingdom and North America. Since the start of the new crisis of capitalism in 2008, the interest in Marx’s works has generally increased. At the same time communicative and ideological features of societal changes’ unpredictable turbulences have become evident. This contribution introduces some specific approaches. It also discusses 14 aspects of why the complex, multidimensional, open and dynamic research approach of the critique of capitalism and society that goes back Marx’s theory remains relevant today
Shift Work Is Not Associated with High Blood Pressure or Prevalence of Hypertension
Background: Working mostly at night has been suggested to be associated with upset of chronobiological rhythms and high blood pressure, but the evidence from epidemiological studies is weak. Methods: In a cross-sectional survey, we evaluated the association between shift work and blood pressure, pre-hypertension and hypertension. In total, 493 nurses, nurse technicians and assistants, were selected at random in a large general hospital setting. Hypertension was diagnosed by the mean of four automatic blood pressure readings 120–139 or diastolic blood pressure $80–89 mmHg. Risk factors for hypertension were evaluated by a standardized questionnaire and anthropometric measurements. The association between the shift of work and blood pressure, pre-hypertension and hypertension was explored using univariate and multivariate analyses that controlled for risk factors for hypertension by covariance analysis and modified Poisson regression. Results: The mean age of the participants was 34.369.4 years and 88.2 % were women. Night shift workers were older, more frequently married or divorced, and less educated. The prevalence of hypertension in the whole sample was 16%, and 28% had pre-hypertension. Blood pressure (after adjustment for confounding) was not different in day and night shift workers. Composite fluxbranes with general intersections
Generalized composite fluxbrane solutions for a wide class of intersection
rules are obtained. The solutions are defined on a manifold which contains a
product of n Ricci-flat spaces M_1 x ... x M_n with 1-dimensional M_1. They are
defined up to a set of functions H_s obeying non-linear differential equations
equivalent to Toda-type equations with certain boundary conditions imposed. A
conjecture on polynomial structure of governing functions H_s for intersections
related to semisimple Lie algebras is suggested. This conjecture is valid for
Lie algebras: A_m, C_{m+1}, m > 0. For simple Lie algebras the powers of
polynomials coincide with the components of the dual Weyl vector in the basis
of simple roots. Explicit formulas for A_1 + ... + A_1 (orthogonal),
"block-ortogonal" and A_2 solutions are obtained. Certain examples of solutions
in D = 11 and D =10 (II A) supergravities (e.g. with A_2 intersection rules)

Hypertension Management in Brazil: Usual Practice in Primary Care—A Meta-Analysis
Knowing the usual clinical practice is relevant for evaluations in health care and economic policies of management of hypertension. This study aimed to describe the usual management of hypertension in the Brazilian primary healthcare system through a systematic review and meta-analysis. The search of population-based studies conducted in Brazil was undertaken using PubMed, EMBASE, and Brazilian databases. Eligible studies were those conducted in adults with hypertension (blood pressure (BP) ≥ 140/90 mmHg or using BP lowering drugs). Three datasets’ data were analyzed: SESI study (in Brazilian workers); HIPERDIA (Brazilian Registration and Monitoring of Hypertensive and Diabetic Patients Program); and a population-based study. Meta-analysis has been performed using the fixed and random effect models. A total of 11 studies or data sets were included in the systematic review. Hypertensive individuals had, on average, 2.6 medical visits annually and 18.2% were on diuretics (n=811 hypertensive patients) and 16.2% on ACE inhibitors (n=1768 hypertensive patients). BP control rate ranged from 43.7 to 67.5%; 35.5% had measured total cholesterol and 36.5% determined fasting plasma glucose in the previous 12 months. Thiazide diuretics and ACE inhibitors were the most used BP lowering medications as single drugs, but the control rate of hypertension is insufficient
Modality, Potentiality and Contradiction in Quantum Mechanics
In [11], Newton da Costa together with the author of this paper argued in
favor of the possibility to consider quantum superpositions in terms of a
paraconsistent approach. We claimed that, even though most interpretations of
quantum mechanics (QM) attempt to escape contradictions, there are many hints
that indicate it could be worth while to engage in a research of this kind.
Recently, Arenhart and Krause [1, 2, 3] have raised several arguments against
this approach and claimed that, taking into account the square of opposition,
quantum superpositions are better understood in terms of contrariety
propositions rather than contradictory propositions. In [17] we defended the
Paraconsistent Approach to Quantum Superpositions (PAQS) and provided arguments
in favor of its development. In the present paper we attempt to analyze the
meanings of modality, potentiality and contradiction in QM, and provide further
arguments of why the PAQS is better suited, than the Contrariety Approach to
Quantum Superpositions (CAQS) proposed by Arenhart and Krause, to face the

A New Sample of Cool Subdwarfs from SDSS: Properties and Kinematics
We present a new sample of M subdwarfs compiled from the 7th data release of
the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. With 3517 new subdwarfs, this new sample
significantly increases the number of spectroscopically confirmed low-mass
subdwarfs. This catalog also includes 905 extreme and 534 ultra sudwarfs. We
present the entire catalog including observed and derived quantities, and
template spectra created from co-added subdwarf spectra. We show color-color
and reduced proper motion diagrams of the three metallicity classes, which are
shown to separate from the disk dwarf population. The extreme and ultra
subdwarfs are seen at larger values of reduced proper motion as expected for
more dynamically heated populations. We determine 3D kinematics for all of the
stars with proper motions. The color-magnitude diagrams show a clear separation
of the three metallicity classes with the ultra and extreme subdwarfs being
significantly closer to the main sequence than the ordinary subdwarfs. All
subdwarfs lie below (fainter) and to the left (bluer) of the main sequence.
Based on the average velocities and their dispersions, the extreme
and ultra subdwarfs likely belong to the Galactic halo, while the ordinary
subdwarfs are likely part of the old Galactic (or thick) disk. An extensive
activity analysis of subdwarfs is performed using H emission and 208
active subdwarfs are found. We show that while the activity fraction of
subdwarfs rises with spectral class and levels off at the latest spectral
classes, consistent with the behavior of M dwarfs, the extreme and ultra

Evidence for transfer followed by breakup in 7Li + 65Cu
The observation of a large cross-section for the alpha + d channel compared
to breakup into the alpha + t channel from an exclusive measurement for the
7Li+65Cu system at 25 MeV is presented. A detailed analysis of the angular
distribution using coupled channels Born approximation calculations has
provided clear evidence that the observed alpha + d events arise from a two
step process, i.e. direct transfer to the 2.186 MeV (3+) resonance in the alpha
+ d continuum of 6Li followed by breakup, and are not due to final state

Effects of electrical stimulation of dorsal raphe nucleus on neuronal response properties of barrel cortex layer IV neurons following long-term sensory deprivation
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effect of electrical stimulation of dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) on response properties of layer IV barrel cortex neurons following long-term sensory deprivation. Methods: Male Wistar rats were divided into sensory-deprived (SD) and control (unplucked) groups. In SD group, all vibrissae except the D2 vibrissa were plucked on postnatal day one, and kept plucked for a period of 60 d. After that, whisker regrowth was allowed for 8-10 d. The D2 principal whisker (PW) and the D1 adjacent whisker (AW) were either deflected singly or both deflected in a serial order that the AW was deflected 20 ms before PW deflection for assessing lateral inhibition, and neuronal responses were recorded from layer IV of the D2 barrel cortex. DRN was electrically stimulated at inter-stimulus intervals (ISIs) ranging from 0 to 800 ms before whisker deflection. Results: PW-evoked responses increased in the SD group with DRN electrical stimulation at ISIs of 50 ms and 100 ms, whereas AW-evoked responses increased at ISI of 800 ms in both groups. Whisker plucking before DRN stimulation could enhance the responsiveness of barrel cortex neurons to PW deflection and decrease the responsiveness to AW deflection. DRN electrical stimulation significantly reduced this difference only in PW-evoked responses between groups. Besides, no DRN stimulation-related changes in response latency were observed following PW or AW deflection in either group. Moreover, condition test (CT) ratio increased in SD rats, while DRN stimulation did not affect the CT ratio in either group. There was no obvious change in 5-HT2A receptor protein density in barrel cortex between SD and control groups. Conclusion: These results suggest that DRN electrical stimulation can modulate information processing in the SD barrel cortex
A Mitochondrial calcium dynamics - checks and balances of energy physiology
Mitochondria conserve the energy released from metabolic redox reactions and supply the cell with ATP. When the rate of respiratory metabolism does not match ATP demand active regulation of mitochondrial function is essential. For plants particularly sophisticated regulation strategies can be expected, to ensure maintenance of homeostasis in the presence of frequent environmental changes. Yet, the mechanisms by which such control is achieved in vivo are poorly understood.
Calcium acts as a key regulator of mitochondrial energy metabolism in mammals by modulating the activity TCA cycle dehydrogenases. Calcium flux into the matrix is controlled by the recently identified mitochondrial uniporter complex. Plants contain homologues of components of the uniporter, but their function has been unclear. To understand how mitochondrial calcium dynamics are regulated and what their impact is on energy metabolism, we have combined reverse genetics with in vivo sensing of calcium. Fluorescent protein sensors and quantitative confocal imaging allow monitoring of mitochondrial energy physiology in living Arabidopsis tissues. We have found that several homologues of components of the mitochondrial calcium uniporter complex localize to mitochondria in Arabidopsis. Mutant lines have shown severely altered mitochondrial calcium levels and abnormal organellar calcium transients, providing a novel genetic handle on the dissection of the role of calcium regulation in plant mitochondria.
