    DDSP-based Neural Waveform Synthesis of Polyphonic Guitar Performance from String-wise MIDI Input

    We explore the use of neural synthesis for acoustic guitar from string-wise MIDI input. We propose four different systems and compare them with both objective metrics and subjective evaluation against natural audio and a sample-based baseline. We iteratively develop these four systems by making various considerations on the architecture and intermediate tasks, such as predicting pitch and loudness control features. We find that formulating the control feature prediction task as a classification task rather than a regression task yields better results. Furthermore, we find that our simplest proposed system, which directly predicts synthesis parameters from MIDI input performs the best out of the four proposed systems.     All in it Together? Community Food Aid in a Multi-Ethnic Context

    This paper derives from a study of community food aid in a multi-ethnic, multi-faith city in the North of England. The paper begins to make sense of the diversity of types of food insecurity assistance, examines the potential exclusion of certain groups from receipt of food aid, and explores the relationship between food aid providers and the state. Faith-based food aid is common in the case study area, particularly among food bank provision to the most 'destitute' clients. While food aid is adopting service responsibilities previously borne by the state, this does not imply an extension of the 'shadow state'. Rather, it appears reflective of a pre-welfare state system of food distribution, supported by religious institutions and individual/business philanthropy, but adapted to be consistent with elements of the 'Big Society' narrative. Most faith-based providers are Christian. There is little Muslim provision of (or utilisation of) food aid, despite the local demographic context. This raises concerns as to the unintentional exclusion of ethnic and religious groups, which we discuss in the concluding sections

    This evaluation report contains an introduction, seven chapters, and five appendices. The Introduction describes the purpose, conceptual frame work, functional description, and technical report server of the STI Electronic Document Distribution (EDD) project. Chapter 1 documents the results of the prototype STI EDD in actual operation. Chapter 2 documents each NASA center's post processing publication processes. Chapter 3 documents each center's STI software, hardware, and communications configurations. Chapter 7 documents STI EDD policy, practices, and procedures. The appendices, which arc contained in Part 2 of this document, consist of (1) STI EDD Project Plan, (2) Team members, (3) Phasing Schedules, (4) Accessing On-line Reports, and (5) Creating an HTML File and Setting Up an xTRS. In summary, Stage 4 of the NASAwide Electronic Publishing System is the final phase of its implementation through the prototyping and gradual integration of each NASA center's electronic printing systems, desktop publishing systems, and technical report servers to be able to provide to NASA's engineers, researchers, scientists, and external users the widest practicable and appropriate dissemination of information concerning its activities and the result thereof to their work stations

    SOLITAIRE:A new generation solenoidal fusion product separator

    A superconducting solenoidal fusion product separator, based on a 6.5 T solenoid, has been developed at the Australian National University to enable separation and detection of evaporation residues following heavy-ion fusion reactions. This device, with an angular coverage of 0.45 - 9 . 5{ring operator}, produces a spatial separation between the fusion products and the intense background of elastically scattered beam particles. Its high efficiency allows precise measurement of nuclear fusion cross-sections, as well as being ideal for evaporation residue coincidence measurements.     Field evaluation of a novel trap baited with carbon dioxide produced by yeast for the collection of female aedes aegypti mosquitoes in Mexico

    Abstract. A trap made from low-cost materials and using an attractant of a yeast mixture producing carbon dioxide was designed and evaluated to collect adult Aedes aegypti (L.) mosquitoes. The Trap Mosquito Box prototype was tested against the “standards” BG-Sentinel traps and CDC backpack aspirator in the field. The mean numbers of mosquitoes (± standard deviation) caught by the three different collection methods were: Trap Mosquito Box 2.42 (± 3.08), BG-Sentinel trap 2.86 (± 3.71), and backpack aspirator 0.59 (± 0.90). Statistical tests showed the Trap Mosquito Box and BG-Sentinel trap were equally effective in collecting A. aegypti and both methods were significantly different than the backpack aspirator. Emission of carbon dioxide produced by the yeast mixture was greatest during the first hours after incubation in a laboratory and captured the most mosquitoes in the Trap Mosquito Box. Production of carbon dioxide [Y = -631.24 + 941.26 (log x)] and the rate of mosquitoes captured per time period [Y = 20.29 + 23.50 (log x)] were best explained by logarithmic regressions. Advantages and disadvantages of the Trap Mosquito Box for mosquito surveillance are discussed

    MAGIQ at the W. M. Keck Observatory: initial deployment of a new acquisition, guiding, and image quality monitoring system

    The W. M. Keck Observatory has completed the development and initial deployment of MAGIQ, the Multi-function Acquisition, Guiding and Image Quality monitoring system. MAGIQ is an integrated system for acquisition, guiding and image quality measurement for the Keck telescopes. This system replaces the acquisition and guiding hardware and software for existing instruments at the Observatory and is now the standard for visible wavelength band acquisition cameras for future instrumentation. In this paper we report on the final design and implementation of this new system, which includes three major components: a visible wavelength band acquisition camera, image quality measurement capability, and software for acquisition, guiding and image quality monitoring. The overall performance is described, as well as the details of our approach to integrating low order wavefront sensing capability in order to provide closed loop control of telescope focus
