    Exploring the subtopic-based relationship map strategy for multi-document summarization

    In this paper we adapt and explore strategies for generating multi-document summaries based on relationship maps, which represent texts as graphs (maps) of interrelated segments and apply different traversing techniques for producing the summaries. In particular, we focus on the Segmented Bushy Path, a sophisticated method which tries to represent in a summary the main subtopics from source texts while keeping its informativeness. In addition, we also investigate some well-known subtopic segmentation and clustering techniques in order to correctly select the most relevant information to compose the final summary. We show that this subtopic-based method outperforms other methods for multi-document summarization and that achieves state of the art results, competing with the most sophisticated deep summarization methods in the area

    Granzyme A Required for Regulatory T-Cell Mediated Prevention of Gastrointestinal Graft-versus-Host Disease

    In our previous work we could identify defects in human regulatory T cells (Tregs) likely favoring the development of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) following allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT). Treg transcriptome analyses comparing GvHD and immune tolerant patients uncovered regulated gene transcripts highly relevant for Treg cell function. Moreover, granzyme A (GZMA) also showed a significant lower expression at the protein level in Tregs of GvHD patients. GZMA induces cytolysis in a perforin-dependent, FAS- FASL independent manner and represents a cell-contact dependent mechanism for Tregs to control immune responses. We therefore analyzed the functional role of GZMA in a murine standard model for GvHD. For this purpose, adoptively transferred CD4+CD25+ Tregs from gzmA-/- mice were analyzed in comparison to their wild type counterparts for their capability to prevent murine GvHD. GzmA-/- Tregs home efficiently to secondary lymphoid organs and do not show phenotypic alterations with respect to activation and migration properties to inflammatory sites. Whereas gzmA-/- Tregs are highly suppressive in vitro, Tregs require GZMA to rescue hosts from murine GvHD, especially regarding gastrointestinal target organ damage. We herewith identify GZMA as critical effector molecule of human Treg function for gastrointestinal immune response in an experimental GvHD model

    CATETER VENOSO CENTRAL DE INSERÇÃO PERIFÉRICA E TROMBOSE: EXPERIÊNCIA EM HOSPITAL DE ALTA COMPLEXIDADE

    Objetivo: descrever as variáveis associadas à trombose nos pacientes com cateter venoso central de inserção periférica.Método: estudo de coorte, retrospectivo, com dados coletados em 2016, no sistema de informação Research Eletronic Data Capture de um hospital de alta complexidade em São Paulo, Brasil.Resultados: o paciente crítico foi o que mais apresentou trombose (77,3%). O paciente que tinha o cateter venoso central de inserção periférica com ocupação do vaso sanguíneo maior que 33%, quando puncionado mais de uma vez (15,4%), evoluiu com trombose. Referente à área de punção, não houve resultado significativo já que 96,2% dos pacientes estavam com o cateter na zona ideal de punção no braço.Conclusão: a incidência de pacientes com Cateter Venoso Central de Inserção Periférica que evoluíram com trombose foi de 1,2%, considerada baixa em comparação com outros estudos, contribuindo para fortalecer as políticas de boas práticas para o sucesso da terapia intravenosa com seu uso.Objective: to describe the variables associated with thrombosis in patients with peripherallyinserted central venous catheters.Method: a retrospective cohort study with data collected in 2016, in the Research Electronic Data Capture information system of a high-complexity hospital in São Paulo, Brazil.Results: the critical patient was the one who presented more thrombosis (77.3%). The patient who had a peripherally-inserted central venous catheter taking more than 33% of the blood vessel, when punctured more than once (15.4%), evolved with thrombosis. Regarding the puncture area, there was no significant result since 96.2% of the patients had the catheter in the ideal puncture zone in the arm.Conclusion: the incidence of patients with Peripherally-Inserted Central Venous Catheters who evolved with thrombosis was 1.2%, considered low compared to other studies, contributing to strengthen the policies of good practices for the success of the intravenous therapy with its use.Objetivo: describir las variables asociadas a la trombosis en pacientes con un catéter venosocentral de inserción periférica.Método: estudio de cohorte, retrospectivo, realizado con datos recolectados en el año2016, en el sistema de información Research Eletronic Data Capture de un hospital de altacomplejidad en San Pablo, Brasil.Resultados: los pacientes críticos fueron los que presentaron más casos de trombosis (77,3%).Cuando se realizó más de una punción (15,4%) en pacientes en los que el catéter venoso centralde inserción periférica ocupaba más del 33% del vaso sanguíneo, el cuadro clínico evolucionócon trombosis.     Dolabelladienols A–C, New Diterpenes Isolated from Brazilian Brown Alga Dictyota pfaffii

    [Abstract:]The marine brown alga Dictyota pfaffii from Atol das Rocas, in Northeast Brazil is a rich source of dolabellane diterpene, which has the potential to be used in future antiviral drugs by inhibiting reverse transcriptase (RT) of HIV-1. Reexamination of the minor diterpene constituents yielded three new dolabellane diterpenes, (1R*,2E,4R*,7S,10S*,11S*,12R*)10,18-diacetoxy-7-hydroxy-2,8(17)-dolabelladiene (1), (1R*,2E,4R*,7R*,10S*,11S*,12R*)10,18-diacetoxy-7-hydroxy-2,8(17)-dolabelladiene (2), (1R*,2E,4R*,8E,10S*,11S,12R*)10,18-diacetoxy-7-hydroxy-2,8-dolabelladiene (3), termed dolabelladienols A–C (1–3) respectively, in addition to the known dolabellane diterpenes (4–6). The elucidation of the compounds 1–3 was assigned by 1D and 2D NMR, MS, optical rotation and molecular modeling, along with the relative configuration of compound 4 and the absolute configuration of 5 by X-ray diffraction. The potent anti-HIV-1 activities displayed by compounds 1 and 2 (IC50 = 2.9 and 4.1 μM), which were more active than even the known dolabelladienetriol 4, and the low cytotoxic activity against MT-2 lymphocyte tumor cells indicated that these compounds are promising anti-HIV-1 agents.Brasil.     A qualitative analysis of a corpus of opinion summaries based on aspects

    Aspect-based opinion summarization is the task of automatically generating a summary\ud for some aspects of a specific topic from a set of opinions. In most cases, to evaluate the quality of the automatic summaries, it is necessary to have a reference corpus of human\ud summaries to analyze how similar they are. The scarcity of corpora in that task has been a limiting factor for many research works. In this paper, we introduce OpiSums-PT, a corpus of extractive and abstractive summaries of opinions written in Brazilian Portuguese. We use this corpus to analyze how similar human summaries are and how people take into account the issues of aspect coverage and sentimento orientation to generate manual summaries. The results of these analyses show that human summaries are diversified and people generate summaries only for some aspects, keeping the overall sentiment orientation with little variation.Samsung Eletrônica da Amazônia Ltda

    Nolz1 promotes striatal neurogenesis through the regulation of retinoic acid signaling

    Background: Nolz1 is a zinc finger transcription factor whose expression is enriched in the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), although its function is still unknown. Results: Here we analyze the role of Nolz1 during LGE development. We show that Nolz1 expression is high in proliferating neural progenitor cells (NPCs) of the LGE subventricular zone. In addition, low levels of Nolz1 are detected in the mantle zone, as well as in the adult striatum. Similarly, Nolz1 is highly expressed in proliferating LGE-derived NPC cultures, but its levels rapidly decrease upon cell differentiation, pointing to a role of Nolz1 in the control of NPC proliferation and/or differentiation. In agreement with this hypothesis, we find that Nolz1 over-expression promotes cell cycle exit of NPCs in neurosphere cultures and negatively regulates proliferation in telencephalic organotypic cultures. Within LGE primary cultures, Nolz1 over-expression promotes the acquisition of a neuronal phenotype, since it increases the number of β-III tubulin (Tuj1)- and microtubule-associated protein (MAP)2-positive neurons, and inhibits astrocyte generation and/or differentiation. Retinoic acid (RA) is one of the most important morphogens involved in striatal neurogenesis, and regulates Nolz1 expression in different systems. Here we show that Nolz1 also responds to this morphogen in E12.5 LGE-derived cell cultures. However, Nolz1 expression is not regulated by RA in E14.5 LGE-derived cell cultures, nor is it affected during LGE development in mouse models that present decreased RA levels. Interestingly, we find that Gsx2, which is necessary for normal RA signaling during LGE development, is also required for Nolz1 expression, which is lost in Gsx2 knockout mice. These findings suggest that Nolz1 might act downstream of Gsx2 to regulate RA-induced neurogenesis. Keeping with this hypothesis, we show that Nolz1 induces the selective expression of the RA receptor (RAR)β without altering RARα or RARγ. In addition, Nozl1 over-expression increases RA signaling since it stimulates the RA response element. This RA signaling is essential for Nolz1-induced neurogenesis, which is impaired in a RA-free environment or in the presence of a RAR inverse agonist. It has been proposed that Drosophila Gsx2 and Nolz1 homologues could cooperate with the transcriptional co-repressors Groucho-TLE to regulate cell proliferation. In agreement with this view, we show that Nolz1 could act in collaboration with TLE-4, as they are expressed at the same time in NPC cultures and during mouse development.
