Oncogenic c-H-ras deregulates survivin expression: An improvement for survival
AbstractSurvivin protein accomplishes two basic functions: cell cycle regulation and control of apoptosis. It is only expressed in G2/M phase and it influences rescue pathways in apoptosis-induced cells. Overexpression of constitutive active c-H-ras in HeLa, or induction of c-H-ras in a stable HeLaDiR cell line, led to sustained survivin expression in all cell cycle phases and even protected cells from drug induced apoptosis. siRNA-mediated silencing of survivin reversed this protection. Understanding the factors that determine workplace coaching effectiveness: a systematic literature review
Meta-analytic results have established that workplace coaching is effective, however, little is known about the determinants of coaching effectiveness. This paper reports an inclusive systematic literature review, covering the quantitative and qualitative research on workplace coaching. We focus on seven promising areas in the current workplace coaching literature that emerged by the synthesis of 117 empirical studies: self-efficacy, coaching motivation, goal orientation, trust, interpersonal attraction, feedback intervention, and supervisory support. The major contribution of our paper is the systematic integration of well-established theoretical constructs in the workplace coaching context and the new insights we provide in the synthesis of these literatures. Based on our review we provide specific recommendations to be addressed in future research, including recommended research methodologies, which we propose will significantly progress the field of workplace coaching theory and practice

Bullying escolar: um fenĂŽmeno multifacetado
School bullying can involve children in different ways, making them play different roles, among them, victims, bullies and bully-victims. The aim of this study was to describe how bullying occurs in high social vulnerability schools of Florianópolis metropolitan area and the roles played by students in this phenomenon. Overall, 409 children and adolescents from the 3rd to 5th grades and of two public elementary schools aged 8-16 years (X = 11.14) participated in this study. As a tool, the Olweus Questionnaire adapted to the Brazilian population was used. For data analysis, descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were applied by the Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis tests. As for results, 29.8% of boys and 40.5% of girls reported being victims; 32.3% of boys and 24.6% of girls reported being bullies. Victims were the most willing to help a colleague who is suffering from bullying (X = 1.54; p> 0.001), even if they do not know the victims (X = 1.57; p> 0.004). Bullies are differentiated from the group that does not participate (X = 1.73) and the group of victims (X = 2.34), being those who felt less alone (x = 1.47; p> 0.001). It was concluded that the information obtained in this study is indispensable in the search for alternatives to reduce school bullying. The strengthening of relations between school and students and a better preparation of teachers and school staff are extremely necessary to try to minimize the effects of risk factors to which these children are exposed and consequently violence at school.O bullying escolar pode envolver crianças de diferentes

Dentre estes, tĂȘm-se vĂtimas, agressores e vĂtimas-agressoras. O
objetivo deste estudo foi descrever como ocorre o bullying em
escolas de alta vulnerabilidade social da Grande FlorianĂłpolis
e os papéis assumidos pelos alunos nesse fenÎmeno. Quanto ao
método, participaram 409 crianças e adolescentes do terceiro
ao quinto ano e da quarta à sexta série do ensino fundamental,
de duas escolas pĂșblicas municipais, com idades entre 8 e 16
anos (X=11,14). Como instrumento, utilizou-se o QuestionĂĄrio
de Olweus adaptado à população brasileira. Para a anålise
dos dados, empregaram-se a estatĂstica descritiva e estatĂstica
inferencial por meio dos testes Mann Whitney e Kruskal Wallis.
Quanto aos resultados, 29,8% dos meninos e 40,5% das meninas
relataram terem sido vĂtimas; jĂĄ 32,3% dos meninos e 24,6%
das meninas relataram terem sido agressores. As vĂtimas foram

colega que esteja sofrendo agressĂŁo (X=1,54; p>0,001), mesmo
que não o conheçam (X=1,57; p>0,004). Em contrapartida,
os agressores se diferenciaram do grupo que nĂŁo participa
(X=1,73) e do grupo das vĂtimas (X=2,34), sendo aqueles que
menos se sentiram sozinhos (X=1,47; p>0,001). Concluiu-se
que as informaçÔes obtidas neste estudo são indispensåveis
na busca de alternativas para redução do bullying escolar. O

Processing of Ice Cloud In-Situ Data Collected by Bulk Water, Scattering, and Imaging Probes: Fundamentals, Uncertainties and Efforts towards Consistency
In-situ observations of cloud properties made by airborne probes play a critical role in ice cloud research through their role in process studies, parameterization development, and evaluation of simulations and remote sensing retrievals. To determine how cloud properties vary with environmental conditions, in-situ data collected during different field projects processed by different groups must be used. However, due to the diverse algorithms and codes that are used to process measurements, it can be challenging to compare the results. Therefore it is vital to understand both the limitations of specific probes and uncertainties introduced by processing algorithms. Since there is currently no universally accepted framework regarding how in-situ measurements should be processed, there is a need for a general reference that describes the most commonly applied algorithms along with their strengths and weaknesses. Methods used to process data from bulk water probes, single particle light scattering spectrometers and cloud imaging probes are reviewed herein, with emphasis on measurements of the ice phase. Particular attention is paid to how uncertainties, caveats and assumptions in processing algorithms affect derived products since there is currently no consensus on the optimal way of analyzing data. Recommendations for improving the analysis and interpretation of in-situ data include the following: establishment of a common reference library of individual processing algorithms; better documentation of assumptions used in these algorithms; development and maintenance of sustainable community software for processing in-situ observations; and more studies that compare different algorithms with the same benchmark data sets
