Las prisiones de Cervantes

El presente artículo, sin desestimar el valor de los testimonios literarios, aprovecha prioritariamente los documentos que nos proporcionan informaciones de primera mano sobre las circunstancias en que Cervantes o bien tuvo que defender su libertad cuando fue amenazada, o bien se empeñó en recobrarla cada vez que la perdió. Estas circunstancias abarcan un amplio período de su vida: treinta y seis años, en total, desde su repentina partida a Italia, en septiembre de 1569, hasta su breve encarcelamiento en Valladolid, en junio de 1605. This article, without denying the value of literary testimonies, makes use of documents that give us first-hand information on the circumstances in which Cervantes either had to defend his freedom when it was threatened, or insisted on recovering it when it was lost. These circumstances cover an extensive period of his life: thirty six years, in all, from his sudden departure to Italy, in September of 1569, to his brief incarceration in Valladolid, in June of 1605

The complex relationship between Mérimée and Golden Age theather poses three questions that are closely related. In first place, what was the specific knowledge of Carmen's author from one of the three most outstanding theathers invented by Modern Europe? Then, what was his opinion about it? And finally, what is the impact of this theather on his own works? Archives and Human Rights

Why and how can records serve as evidence of human rights violations, in particular crimes against humanity, and help the fight against impunity? Archives and Human Rights shows the close relationship between archives and human rights and discusses the emergence, at the international level, of the principles of the right to truth, justice and reparation. Through a historical overview and topical case studies from different regions of the world the book discusses how records can concretely support these principles. The current examples also demonstrate how the perception of the role of the archivist has undergone a metamorphosis in recent decades, towards the idea that archivists can and must play an active role in defending basic human rights, first and foremost by enabling access to documentation on human rights violations. Confronting painful memories of the past is a way to make the ghosts disappear and begin building a brighter, more serene future. The establishment of international justice mechanisms and the creation of truth commissions are important elements of this process. The healing begins with the acknowledgment that painful chapters are essential parts of history; archives then play a crucial role by providing evidence. This book is both a tool and an inspiration to use archives in defence of human rights
