Medicinal plants are used for the purpose of promoting quality of life, even from primordial times. This paper aimed to present the importance of the use of herbal medicines in the network public health. The practice and consumption of herbal medicines has been growing every year, with the emergence of Ordinance No. 971 of May 3, 2006 approving the National Policy for Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC) in Unified Health System (SUS). But there is still a big factor to be overcome, the high requirement of the National Agency Health Surveillance Authority (ANVISA), for the production, marketing and distribution of herbal medicines in the SUS. THE Ordinance GM / MS No. 533 of March 28, 2012 (National List of Essential Medicines - RENAME), cast herbal medicines in Primary Care, consists of only 12 plant species of interest of SUS, considered low due to Brazil being considered one of the countries with the greatest biodiversity in the world. The main problems that hindering the advances of herbal products in the SUS are the lack of state and municipal public policies and the lack of of interest of the managers of these secretariats in complying also with the federal legislation in force.Medicinal plants are used for the purpose of promoting quality of life, even from primordial times. [EN] This study addresses the historical trajectory of karate, particularly in relation to the processes that favored its inclusion as one of the five modalities that will debut at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. The literature review was the methodology used in this research. Several attempts and efforts were identified to enable karate to join as a sport in the Olympic Games. It was concluded that the agents (federation leaders, presidents, coaches and athletes) along with institutions (clubs, companies, government, among others) were involved in a process that aimed to meet the requirements of the International Olympic Committee. Thus, it is possible to observe various transformations in the development of this modality that shaped karate as it istoday, which has made it a rookie modality being conditioned by market interests

Experimental infection of dogs with a brazilian strain of Rickettsia rickettsii: clinical and laboratory findings

The bacterium Rickettsia rickettsii is the etiological agent of an acute, severe disease called Rocky Mountain spotted fever in the United States or Brazilian spotted fever (BSF) in Brazil. In addition to these two countries, the disease has also been reported to affect humans in Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Argentina. Like humans, dogs are also susceptible to R. rickettsii infection. However, despite the wide distribution of R. rickettsii in the Western Hemisphere, reports of R. rickettsii-induced illness in dogs has been restricted to the United States. The present study evaluated the pathogenicity for dogs of a South American strain of R. rickettsii. Three groups of dogs were evaluated: group 1 (G1) was inoculated ip with R. rickettsii; group 2 (G2) was infested by R. rickettsii-infected ticks; and the control group (G3) was infested by uninfected ticks. During the study, no clinical abnormalities, Rickettsia DNA or R. rickettsii-reactive antibodies were detected in G3. In contrast, all G1 and G2 dogs developed signs of rickettsial infection, i.e., fever, lethargy, anorexia, ocular lesions, thrombocytopenia, anemia and detectable levels of Rickettsia DNA and R. rickettsii-reactive antibodies in their blood. Rickettsemia started 3-8 days after inoculation or tick infestation and lasted for 3-13 days. Our results indicate that a Brazilian strain of R. rickettsii is pathogenic for dogs, suggesting that canine clinical illness due to R. rickettsii has been unreported in Brazil and possibly in the other South American countries where BSF has been reported among human

    Get PDF
CrossFit® training is one of the fastest-growing fitness activities in the world due to its varied functional movement and competition experience. The performance is present in almost every workout of the day (WOD); however, there is a lack of knowledge in the science that did not allow us to fully understand the performance determinants of CrossFit WOD’s like we do for other individual or team sports. The purpose of this study was to analyze the physical and physiological variables of recreational trained CrossFit athletes during one of the most famous WOD, FRAN, and to identify which variables best determine performance. Methods: Fifteen CrossFit practitioners performed, alone on separate days, 1RM and a maximum of repetitions of pull-ups test, 1RM and a maximum of repetitions of thrusters with 95 lb/43.2 kg, FRAN CrossFit WOD, and 2K Row test. Results: Blood lactate concentrate, HRmax, HRav, and RPE achieved higher values for 2K Row and maximum repetitions of thrusters. Maximum repetition of thrusters and pull-ups, 1RM of thrusters, and 2K Row resulted in moderate to strong correlation with FRAN performance (r = −0.78; r = −0.58; r = −0.67; r = 0.63, respectively). Conclusions and practical applications: FRAN performance was stroninfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The difficulty of obtaining dry wood quality is one major obstacle when it comes to drying of Eucalyptus wood, since the species of this genus have slow drying and high propensity to defect. In this sense, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of drying in the air, on the quality of Eucalyptus spp, in order to identify the optimal time of permanence of the wood in the drying yard. In the drying process was accompanied by the humidity loss and the drying rate, the defects were measured before and after each drying (warping, cracks and collapse) and tension levels and humidity gradient after drying. The results showed that pre-air drying took 65 days to reach 23% of final humidity, with an average drying rate of 1% / day with low defect rates and drying tensions moisture gradients were medium were 20.22% to 23.18% outer layer and inner layer, and the average gradient 3.17%.A dificuldade de se obter madeira seca com qualidade é um dos maiores obstáculos quando se trata da secagem da madeira do gênero Eucalyptus, visto que as espécies do gênero apresentam secagem lenta e com alta propensão a defeitos.

The staff burnout expression created for Freudenberger. He described a syndrome consisting of exhaustion, disappointment and isolation of health workers. The Burnout Syndrome (BS) recognized as an occupational hazard for professions that involved caring for health, education and human services, due to wear psychosocial. The study’s aim was a crossover design in order to determine the prevalence of BS in medical students of Facimed. Two questionnaires conducted by a sociodemographic issues, academic, and psychosocial and with validated version in Portuguese of the MBI-SS (Maslasch Burnout Inventary-Student Survey). The medical Facimed’s students surveyed of the periods 2 to 8, excluding those who are at boarding school, totaling 176 participants. Were identified 16 (9.1%) students with BS: 4 in the 2º period, 6 in the 4º period, 5 in the 6º period and 1 in the 8º period. In the analysis that combines the two questionnaires was inferred that friendship/social life and cultural activity more closely related to the manifestation of the BS during the school period, with p = 0.008 and p = 0.02 respectively. Thus, we conclude that those who negatively assess their interpersonal relationships and those who do not practice cultural activity were more likely to have burnout and a significant prevalence in the study group compared to literature

Persistent Right Aortic Arch in a Dog

    Get PDF
Background:  :  : Vascular ring anomalies were congenital malformation of the great vessels, caused by defects in embryogenesis of the aortic arches. In dogs the most common type is persistent right aortic arch (PRAA). The PRAA occurs when the fourth right aortic arch persists instead of left to form the aorta. This malformation causes extraluminal compression of the esophagus up to the base of the heart. The constriction leads to esophageal dilatation secondary, located cranial to the base heart. The food, which can not progress beyond the narrowing, is regurgitated intermittently. Thus, the main clinical sign of disease is regurgitation when the patient starts eating solid foods. Respiratory clinical signs (mainly pneumonia by aspiration) may occur and can complicate the disease. The diagnosis is suspected by history (puppies at weaning) and physical examination. The diagnosis is confirmed by the esophagogram, where the image is characteristic (esophagic dilatation cranial base of the heart). The treatment of the affection is surgical, with transection and ligature of the vascular ring, viewed during thoracotomy by fourth intercostal space. The postoperative management which consists mainly of liquid diet and/or pasty is important for total recovery of the animal. In some cases, the animal must receive a special diet for life to prevent regurgitation. However at long term, most operated animal presents important sequels. These sequelae include respiratory disorders and low development of animal. The objective of the present paper is to relate a case of bitch with persistent right aortic arch, successful treated surgically, without serious clinical consequences. Case: A mongrel bitch with 2 months of age was attended at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of the Piauí, Brazil, with vomiting. At the clinical examination was observed increase in volume in the cervical region. Radiographic examination revealed dilatation cranial to the heart base, characterizing megaesohagus. The diagnosis was PRAA. The dog was submitted at thoracotomy by fourth right intercostal space. The ligamentum arteriosum was localized and ligated at the distal and craniallly. During transoperative was made blood transfusion for correction of the  anemia detected in preoperative period. The chest wall was closed routinely. Two days after surgery the dog was discharged. The postoperative diet consisted of liquids for a week, followed by semi-solid food always in bipedal position. After discharge, the owner returned for monthly visits for a year, with completion of physical examination and radiographs. Discussion: PRAA is most common in purebred dog, but in this case the animal is a mixed breed dog. The diagnosis was suspected due to history, and confirmed by esophagogram, where there was megaesophagus cranial to the heart base, according by literature. The surgical treatment, rapidly decided, and the absence of pneumonia, which is the main complication postsurgical, contributed to the observed good results. The blood transfusion to correct anemia also was important for the recovery of the animal. There is an esophageal dilatation after one year, however no clinical manifestation occurs. The dog has a normal life. Excellent results as in the case reported here have a slower rate than 10%
