The Role of Rehabilitative Ultrasound Imaging Technique in the Lumbopelvic Region as a Diagnosis and Treatment Tool in Physiotherapy: Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis and Meta-Regression.
Rehabilitative ultrasound imaging (RUSI) technique seems to be a valid and reliable tool for diagnosis and treatment in physiotherapy and has been widely studied in the lumbopelvic region the last three decades. The aims for this utility in clinical settings must be review through a systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression. A systematic review was designed following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines with PROSPERO registration and per review in all phases of the process using COVIDENCE, analysis of risk of bias and meta-analysis using REVMAN, and meta-regression calculation using STATA. Database screening provided 6544 references, out of which 321 reported narrative synthesis, and 21 reported quantitative synthesis, while only 7 of them provided comparable data to meta-analyze the variables pain and muscle thickness. In most cases, the forest plots showed considerable I2 heterogeneity indexes for multifidus muscle thickness (I2 = 95%), low back pain (I2 = 92%) and abdominal pain (I2 = 95%), not important for transversus abdominis muscle thickness (I2 = 22%), significant heterogenity (I2 = 69%) depending on the subgroup and not important internal oblique muscle thickness (I2 = 0%) and external oblique muscle thickness (I2 = 0%). Meta-regression did not provide significant data for the correlations between the variables analyzed and the intervention, age, and BMI (Body Mass Index). This review reveals that RUSI could contribute to a high reliability of the measurements in the lumbopelvic region with validity and reliability for the assessments, as well as showing promising results for diagnosis and intervention assessment in physiotherapy compared to the traditional model, allowing for future lines of research in this area.post-print835 K

Partial Palsy of the Oculomotor Nerve Due to Zoster Sine Herpete: A Case Report. Palabras Clave: Herpes Zoster; Oculomotor; Parálisis del Tercer Nervio; Zoster Sine Herpete.ABSTRACTIntroduction: Herpes zoster is the reactivation of the varicella zoster virus in the sensorial and/or autonomic ganglia, typically characterized by cutaneous vesicular eruptions and deep pain with dermatomal distribution. Infrequently can occur the Zoster Sine Herpete; condition in which there is dermatomal distribution of the pain in absence of dermic injuries, making the diagnosis a challenge for the clinician. Case report: 69 years old man with periorbital pain, epiphora, ptosis and loss of adduction of the right eye. The imaging and laboratory studies were normal, excluding with this the main causes of oculomotor nerve palsy. A presumptive diagnosis of Zoster Sine Herpete was done and a therapeutic test with valacyclovir was initiated, showing complete resolution 6 weeks later without sequelaes. Discussion: This case may be the frst in describing partial painful oculomotor nerve palsy as the only manifestation of the varicella zoster virus reactivation and seeks to aware the medical staff about a latent disease that makes from his reappearances a wide range of presentations not always easily to identify. Keywords: Herpes Zoster; Oculomotor; Third Nerve Palsy; Zoster Sine Herpete

Morphological, Electrical, and Chemical Characteristics of Poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) Coated PVDF Ultrafiltration Membranes after Plasma Treatment
A commercial ultrafiltration (UF) membrane (HFM-183 de Koch Membrane Systems) made of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), was recovered with a negatively-charged polyelectrolyte (poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate)) (PSS), and the effects on its electric, chemical, and morphological properties were analyzed. Atomic force microscopy (AFM), liquid-liquid displacement porometry, Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy were used to investigate the modifications induced by the deposition of PSS on the PVDF positively-charged membrane and after its treatment by a radio frequency Ar-plasma. These techniques confirmed a real deposition and posterior compaction of PSS with increasing roughness and decreasing pore sizes. The evolution of the electric resistances of the membranes confirmed crosslinking and compaction with shielding of the sulfonated groups from PSS. In this way, a membrane with a negatively-charged active layer and a pore size which was 60% lower than the original membrane was obtained. The composition of the additive used by manufacturers to modify PVDF to make it positively charged was obtained by different procedures, all of which depended upon the results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, leading to fairly consistent results. This polymer, carrying positive charges, contains quaternary nitrogen, as confirmed by XPS. Moreover, Raman spectroscopy confirmed that PVDF changes from mostly the β to the α phase, which is more stable as a substrate for the deposited PSS. The aim of the tested modifications was to increase the retention of divalent anions without reducing permeability.Fil: Sandoval Olvera, Ivette G.. Tuberculoma epidural espinal simulando Síndrome de Guillain-Barré: presentación de un caso
ABSTRACTThe central nervous system is one of the most affected focus in extrapulmonary tuberculosis, however, spinal epidural tuberculoma is considered very unusual. We present a clinical report of a four years old patient who presented with clinical symptoms of a progressive quadriparesis. The cerebroespinal fluid examination showed protein-cell dissociation, and the diagnosis of Guillain Barré syndrome was made. However, because it called the attention the appearance of meningeal signs, a magnetic resonance imaging was performed, and evidenced a compressive lesion in the cervicodorsal level. It was explored by neurosurgery, finding an epidural lesion studied by cultures and polymerase chain reaction. Both reported positive results for Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The anti-tuberculosis treatment was started and a progressive clinical improvement was observed with recuperation of the gait after the surgical procedure. Grain-Size Prediction Model in Aluminum Castings Manufactured by Low-Pressure Technology
The grain refinement in a real casting manufactured by Low Pressure Die Casting (LPDC) such as wheels and steering knuckles depends on the grain-refinement potential of the metal and the geometry of the part/process parameters. For this study, the effect of the cooling rate on the AlSi7Mg alloy with different metal qualities in terms of grain refinement was tested. The grain size has been metallographically evaluated in cylindrical test pieces and in the real wheels and steering knuckles manufactured at the Mapsa and Fagor Ederlan foundries. The Thermolan®-Al system has been used to evaluate the nucleation potential in terms of grain size on a standard cup. The grain size has been modeled taking into account the effect of the cooling rate measured in the center of the cylindrical test parts and the different grain-size potential. Different grades of refinement have been tested. The grain size measured in a real casting (wheel and steering knuckle) was used to calibrate the model for a real part in LPDC for different grain-size potential
