Social economy companies in the times of crises: Entrepreneurship and survival

Purpose: The work presented in this article is a study of the strategies carried out by social economy companies in times of crisis. This article analyses the financial characteristics of the cooperative companies created in Barcelona during the crisis period 2008-2013. This study aims to compare the financial characteristics of the cooperative companies analysed with the measures carried out to maintain their profitability in times of crisis. Design/methodology: Statistical-descriptive analysis of the means and variations of the main financial indicators that are related to the measures taken by the companies of Social Economy in times of crisis. The data used have been provided by the Generalitat de Catalunya - Departament d'Empresa i Ocupació Direcció General d'Economia Social i Cooperativa i Treball Autònom for the reference period 2008-2013. Findings: The cooperative companies created in Barcelona in the period of crisis 2008-2013 have the following features: their debt remains stable with a significant improvement in quality, and they display increases in long-term debt relative to short-term debt. Regarding collection and payment periods, there is an upward trend, but a reduction is confirmed in the last year of the sample. In that year, 2013, there is a trend change in the evolution of most of the analysed economic indicators. This change coincides with improvement in the conjuncture of the capital market and the economic environment in general. Originality/value: To determine the economic and financial characteristics of the cooperative companies created in the period of crisis 2008-2013 with the aim of guiding the social entrepreneurs of the future.Peer Reviewe

Abrir la puerta a un poeta : la antología poética traducida como carta de presentación

Este artículo pretende analizar la antología poética traducida de un solo autor como medio de entrada de dicho poeta en un nuevo sistema literario. Para ello, nos basaremos en el estudio de las antologías poéticas de los integrantes del modernismo norteamericano traducidas al castellano y aportaremos ejemplos concretos de traductores-antólogos. Como veremos, la figura del traductor-antólogo es primordial, ya que a menudo presenta al autor extranjero ante un público nuevo (le abre la puerta) y, además, da al primer paso para su admisión en la cultura de llegada mediante la traducción de una selección de su obraOpening the door to an author. The translated poetic anthology as a cover letter This research paper focuses on the study of a single author's translated poetic anthology as a poet's means of entry into the target culture's literary system. For that purpose, an analysis of North-American modernists' poetic anthologies translated into Spanish is given, and several examples of translator-anthologists are provided. Translator-anthologists play a very important role, because they often present that author in front of a new audience (they "open the door" to the author), and are the first contributors to the admission of a foreign author in the target culture through the translation of a selected part of their work

Lecturas vinculares : un análisis de los libros sobre hábitos, dirigidos a la infancia en edad temprana

Partiendo del concepto de lectura vincular, como inicio del proceso lector infantil, del estudio de la oferta editorial actual destinada a la pequeña infancia (0 a 3 años) y del papel de los agentes implicados en ella: editores, autores, familia y mediadores, se presenta una propuesta de análisis metodológico de libros seleccionados sobre el aprendizaje de los hábitos del niño/a. El objetivo de la investigación es analizar en profundidad esta selección literaria para dar a conocer la complejidad que se esconde tras este tipo de producto cultural y la influencia que las lecturas pueden llegar a tener en el aprendizaje y en el desarrollo literario infantil

Subtitling as a Teaching Tool for English for Specific Purposes’ Students

[EN] New technologies have invaded our daily lives, and as a consequence the use of computers and internet inside the classroom is progressively more frequent. At the same time, subtitling as a teaching/learning tool has become more popular. For that purpose, scholars such as Delabastita (1989), Sokoli (2006) or Talaván (2013) have been researching how the adaptation of these subtitling methods will have some influence in the learning/teaching process. Thus, the aim of this paper is to present an interlingual subtitling task in a class for English for Specific Purposes students (from a university degree of architecture), in order to improve their receptive skills (commonly known as listening and reading). Along these lines, this paper will explore the use of Task Based Learning in ESP classes and it will propose a teaching unit for further implementation in a university class of English for the degree of architecture, discussing the advantages and repercussions it may have for the acquisition and improvement of the aforementioned passive skills. Review of the Barcelona Housing and Renovation Forum (FHAR)

Organizado por el Instituto Municipal de la Vivienda y Rehabilitación de Barcelona (IMHAB), el FHAR tuvo lugar del 19 al 21 de marzo de 2019 en el Auditorio del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona (MACBA). El objetivo del foro era debatir sobre el derecho de la vivienda, reuniendo tanto especialistas del tema de varias administraciones locales, autonómicas, nacionales e internacionales, así como profesionales del sector privado, investigadores y miembros de los movimientos sociales. Este artículo propone una reseña de este evento que constó de muchas mesas redondas y debates interesantes para entender la situación actual del tema de la vivienda en Barcelona. Se hará una síntesis de las ponencias de cada mesa y a modo de conclusión, se recogerán los grandes retos que puso en evidencia el foro, evidenciando los puntos de encuentro y conflictos.Organized by the Municipal Institute of Housing and Renovation of Barcelona (IMHAB), the FHAR took place from March 19 to 21, 2019 at the Auditorium of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA). The objective of the forum was to discuss the issue of housing law, gathering subject specialists coming from various local, regional, national and international administrations, as well as private sector professionals, researchers and members of social movements. This article aims to review this remarkable event with many round tables and interesting debates to understand the current situation of the housing issue in Barcelona. It makes a synthesis of the presentations of each table and as a conclusion, recall the great challenges that the forum put in evidence and shows the points of encounter and conflicts
