ECONOMICS OF HAPPINESS: A STUDY ON HAPPINESS INDICATORS IN UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS
The pursuit of happiness is a desire that everyone has in life. The behavioral economics can help to identify constraints to achieve the true happiness. This study made an attempt to identify some possible determinants to explain the happiness of university professors in higher education institutions in the city of Passo Fundo/RS. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple regression models in seven different groups, classified into happiness by sex; happiness by marital status; happiness by age; happiness and money; happiness, sports and health; happiness, friendship, love relationships and sex life; and happiness, creativity and organization. The results show that money is not one of the major constraints to achieve happiness in this analysis group, that love relationships significantly increase the happiness of this study group, once sexual relationships don’t represent happiness increasing. It was also found that emotional / mental health of the participants has significance to turn them happier as creative tasks and planning actions to the future to reach the dreams and goals demonstrate to increase the happiness of this sample of university teachers

Development of a portable leaf photosynthesis and volatile organic compounds emission system.
Understanding how plant carbon metabolism responds to environmental variables such as light is central to understanding ecosystem carbon cycling and the production of food, biofuels, and biomaterials. Here, we couple a portable leaf photosynthesis system to an autosampler for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to enable field observations of net photosynthesis simultaneously with emissions of VOCs as a function of light. Following sample collection, VOCs are analyzed using automated thermal desorption-gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS). An example is presented from a banana plant in the central Amazon with a focus on the response of photosynthesis and the emissions of eight individual monoterpenes to light intensity. Our observations reveal that banana leaf emissions represent a 1.1 +/- 0.1% loss of photosynthesis by carbon. Monoterpene emissions from banana are dominated by trans-β-ocimene, which accounts for up to 57% of total monoterpene emissions at high light. We conclude that the developed system is ideal for the identification and quantification of VOC emissions from leaves in parallel with CO2 and water fluxes. The system therefore permits the analysis of biological and environmental sensitivities of carbon metabolism in leaves in remote field locations, resulting in the emission of hydrocarbons to the atmosphere.•A field-portable system is developed for the identification and quantification of VOCs from leaves in parallel with leaf physiological measurements including photosynthesis and transpiration.•The system will enable the characterization of carbon and energy allocation to the biosynthesis and emission of VOCs linked with photosynthesis (e.g. isoprene and monoterpenes) and their biological and environmental sensitivities (e.g. light, temperature, CO2).•Allow the development of more accurate mechanistic global VOC emission models linked with photosynthesis, improving our ability to predict how forests will respond to climate change. It is our hope that the presented system will contribute with critical data towards these goals across Earth's diverse tropical forests

Conflito material do direito de propriedade indígena
Indigenous land boundaries have caused great repercussions in Brazilian history. The main objective of this research is to seek to understand the reasons of disputes regarding the boundaries of indigenous property rights in the process of demarcation of its territory. The problem lies in the need to understand what must prevail before such conflicts, if property rights guaranteed in article 5 of the Federal Constitution of 1988 or the right to the lands traditionally occupied provided in article 231 of the same constitutional text. The methodology adopted was the exploratory-descriptive and tried to propose possible solutions to remedy the problem presented. At the end, it will be perceived that indigenous people are hardly usufructuaries, and besides, that the existing conflicts between the demarcation of indigenous territories and the private properties can be originated from fake anthropological studies, with the aim of widening indigenous territories unfairly.Las demarcaciones de tierras indígenas han causado grandes repercusiones en la historia brasileña. Airway resistance and respiratory compliance in children with acute viral bronchiolitis requiring mechanical ventilation support
Background: Acute viral bronchiolitis (AVB) is a very frequent disease that affects the lower airways of young children increasing the inspiratory and expiratory resistance in variable degree as well as reducing the pulmonary compliance. It would be desirable to know whether these variables are associated with the outcome. Objectives: To evaluate the respiratory mechanics in infants with AVB requiring mechanical ventilation (MV) support and to evaluate if respiratory mechanics predict outcomes in children with AVB supported on MV. To evaluate the respiratory mechanics in infants with AVB submitted to MV. Materials and methods: A prospective observational study was conducted in two pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) between February 2016 and March 2017. Included were infants (1 month to 1 year old) admitted with AVB and requiring MV for >48 hours. Auto-PEEP, dynamic compliance (Cdyn), static compliance (Cstat), expiratory resistance (ExRes), and inspiratory resistance (InRes) were evaluated once daily on the second and third day of MV. Results: A total of 64 infants (median age of 2.8 months and a mean weight of 4.8 ± 1.7 kg) were evaluated. A mean positive inspiratory pressure (PIP) of 31.5 ± 5.2 cmH2O, positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) of 5.5 ± 1.4 cmH2O, resulting in a mean airway pressure (MAP) of 12.5 ± 2.2 cmH2O and delta pressure of 22.5 ± 4.4 cmH2O without difference between the two hospitals. Measurements of respiratory mechanics showed high values of InRes and ExRes (median 142 [IQ25–75 106–180] cmH2O/L/s and 158 [IQ25–75 130–195.3] cmH2O/L/s, respectively), accompanied by decreased Cdyn and Cstat (0.46 ± 0.19 and 0.81 ± 0.25 mL/kg/cmH2O, respectively). None of the variables was associated with mortality, length of MV, or length of PICU stay. Conclusion: Infants with AVB requiring MV support present very high InRes and ExRes values. These findings might be the reason for the aggressive ventilatory parameters, especially PIP, required to ventilate this group of children with lower airway obstruction. Clinical significance: Monitoring respiratory mechanics could represent a useful tool to guide the ventilatory strategy to be adopted in patients with AVB
Evidence of precursor orthorhombic domains well above the electronic nematic transition temperature in Sr(Fe1-xCox)2As2
Raman scattering, synchrotron x-ray diffraction, specific heat, resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements were performed in Sr(Fe1-xCox)2As2 [x = 0.24(3)] single crystals with superconducting critical temperature Tc = 22 K and two additional transitions at 132 and 152 K observed in both specific heat and resistivity data. A quasielastic Raman signal with B2g symmetry (tetragonal cell) associated with electronic nematic fluctuations is observed. Crucially, this signal shows maximum intensity at Tnem 132 K, marking the nematic transition temperature. X-ray diffraction shows evidence of coexisting orthorhombic and tetragonal domains between Tnem and To 152 K, implying that precursor orthorhombic domains emerge over an extended temperature range above Tnem. While the height of the quasielastic Raman peak is insensitive to To, the temperature-dependence of the average nematic fluctuation rate indicates a slowing down of the nematic fluctuations inside the precursor orthorhombic domains. These results are analogous to those previously reported for the LaFeAsO parent oxypnictide [U.F. Kaneko et al., Phys. Rev. B 96, 014506 (2017)]. We propose a scenario where the precursor orthorhombic phase may be generated within the electronically disordered regime (Tnem) as long as the nematic fluctuation rate is sufficiently small in comparison to the optical phonon frequency range. In this regime, the local atomic structure responds adiabatically to the electronic nematic fluctuations, creating a net of orthorhombic clusters that, albeit dynamical for Tnem, may be sufficiently dense to sustain long-range phase coherence in a diffraction process up to To.Fil: Kaneko, Ulisses. The Family Physician: to be or not to be? Dilemmas related to career choice
The Family Health Strategy is responsible for supporting the reorganization of Brazil's Unified National Health System (SUS) through primary care. A substantial increase in available residency positions in family and community medicine is one of the main strategies for supplying the growing professional demand related to this health policy. However, few medical students have chosen the family health career in recent years, and more than half of the vacancies remain unoccupied. The Brazilian literature shows little evidence to explain this fact. Some countries with a strong background in primary health care have also experienced a crisis in the primary care career choice. The current article discusses several arguments involved in this issue, emphasizing its complexity and the need for more scientific data concerning undergraduate students' motivations in choosing this medical specialty as compared to others, particularly in Brazil
