    Value transformation in the lets play gaming sub-culture

    The file attached to this record is the author's final peer reviewed version.Let’s play is a globally significant phenomenon in creative online content generation that has evolved from gaming culture. Little is understood about the behavior and motivations of community participants to generate creative content or the values they associate with their creative work. This research explores the processes let’s play players engage in to transform and extract value from content generation, and the roles of firms in its development. Drawing on Bourdieu’s (1989) frames of capital, this research identifies four types of value (social, cultural, economic and symbolic) and examines the processes for content creation and sharing. Findings identify a complex interplay between the forms of value together with the paramount aim of creating symbolic value for delayed economic gain. This has implications for how firms involved in developing partnership propositions (such as platforms, game asset producers, games publishers) develop and extract future economic value

    [EN] Aquifers and groundwater-dependent ecosystems (GDEs) are facing increasing pressure from water consumption, irrigation and climate change. These pressures modify groundwater levels and their temporal patterns and threaten vital ecosystem services such as arable land irrigation and ecosystem water requirements, especially during droughts. This review examines climate change effects on groundwater and dependent ecosystems. The mechanisms affecting natural variability in the global climate and the consequences of climate and land use changes due to anthropogenic influences are summarised based on studies from different hydrogeological strata and climate zones. The impacts on ecosystems are discussed based on current findings on factors influencing the biodiversity and functioning of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The influence of changes to groundwater on GDE biodiversity and future threats posed by climate change is reviewed, using information mainly from surface water studies and knowledge of aquifer and groundwater ecosystems. Several gaps in research are identified. Due to lack of understanding of several key processes, the uncertainty associated with management techniques such as numerical modelling is high. The possibilities and roles of new methodologies such as indicators and modelling methods are discussed in the context of integrated groundwater resources management.     Since introducing cell-free DNA screening, Sequenom Laboratories has analyzed over 1 million clinical samples. More than 30,000 of these samples were from multifetal gestations (including twins, triplets and higher-order multiples). The clinical laboratory experience with the first 30,000 multifetal samples will be discussed. Maternal plasma samples from multifetal gestations were subjected to DNA extraction and library preparation followed by massively parallel sequencing. Sequencing data were analyzed to identify autosomal trisomies and other subchromosomal events. Fetal fraction requirements were adjusted in proportion to fetal number. Outcome data, when voluntarily received from the ordering provider, were collected from internal case notes. Feedback was received in 50 cases. The positivity rate in multifetal samples for trisomy 21 was 1.50%, 0.47% for trisomy 18, and 0.21% for trisomy 13. Average total sample fetal fraction was 12.2% at a mean gestational age of 13 weeks 6 days. Total non-reportable rate was 5.95%. Estimated performance based on ad hoc clinical feedback demonstrates that possible maximum sensitivity and specificity meet or exceed the original performance from clinical validation studies. Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) screening provides certain advantages over that of conventional screening in multifetal gestations and is available in higher-order multiples

    Overview of NASA's Solar Electric Propulsion Project

    NASA is continuing to develop and qualify a state of the art 13 kW-class Advanced Electric Propulsion System (AEPS) for NASA exploration missions through a contract with Aerojet Rocketdyne (AR). An objective of the AEPS project is accelerate the adoption of high power electric propulsion technologies by reducing the risk and uncertainty of integrating Solar Electric Propulsion (SEP) technologies into space flight systems. NASA and AR have recently initiated testing of engineering hardware including the Hall Current Thruster (HCT), Power Processing Unit (PPU), and Xenon Flow Controller (XFC) at both the component and system levels. The successful completion of these tests will provide the required information to advance the AEPS system towards Critical Design Review. In support of the AEPS contract, NASA and JPL have been performing risk reduction activities to address specific concerns of this higher power Hall thruster propulsion system. These risk reduction activities have included long duration wear testing of the Technology Demonstration Unit (TDU) Hall thruster and cathode hardware, thermal cycling of TDU cathode heaters and coils, plasma plume measurements, and performed early circuit testing of the AEPS PPU design. In addition to the propulsion system development, the SEP project is developing the Plasma Diagnostic Package (PDP) and the SEP Testbed. The PDP is designed for use in conjunction with a high-powered electric propulsion (EP) system to characterize in-space operation. The SEP Testbed system is being developed to demonstrate integrated SEP system performance.
