    Titanium Dioxide Films for Photocatalytic Degradation of Methyl Orange Dye

    The aim of this work was to characterize and evaluate the influence of the thickness on the photocatalytic efficiency of titanium dioxide thin films on the degradation of methyl orange dye under UV light irradiation. The films of 280 and 468 nm thick were deposited on borosilicate substrates at 400°C by the MOCVD technique using titanium isoproxide IV as precursor. XRD analyses showed the formation of anatase-TiO2 phase. Cross-sectional FE-SEM images show that the films presented a dense columnar structure and grown perpendicularly to the substrate surface. The photocatalytic activity of the catalysts was studied using UV-vis spectrophotometry The TiO2 film with 468 nm of thickness presented higher photocatalytic activity exhibiting 69% of dye degradation. The increase of grain size and thickness of the films promoted an improvement of photocatalytic efficiency

    Narrative Therapy vs. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for moderate depression: empirical evidence from a controlled clinical trial

    Background: Systematic studies of the efficacy of Narrative Therapy (NT) for depression are sparse. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of individual NT for moderate depression in adults compared to Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Method: Sixty-three depressed clients were assigned to either NT or CBT. The Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) and Outcome Questionnaire-45.2 (OQ-45.2) were used as outcome measures. Results: We found a significant symptomatic reduction in both treatments. Group differences favoring CBT were found on the BDI-II, but not on the OQ-45.2. Conclusions: Pre- to post-treatment effect sizes for completers in both groups were superior to benchmarked waiting-list control groups.FCT -Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia(PTDC/PSI-PCL/121525/2010

    Análise do uso de medicamentos e suplementos estimulantes, prescritos e não prescritos, por estudantes em uma universidade particular da cidade de Anápolis – Goiás

    O uso de medicamentos e suplementos estimulantes por acadêmicos das áreas da saúde, humanas e exatas, principalmente a automedicação, se tornou uma prática comum para aliviar sintomas de estresse físico e mental. Em geral, os estudantes universitários das áreas da saúde, usam mais medicamentos que os demais e, nesses cursos, há uma alta prevalência da prática da automedicação, sendo que as classes de drogas mais utilizadas são analgésicas e anti-inflamatórias. Entretanto, essa prática pode trazer consequências negativas, como vício, overdose e efeitos adversos aos medicamentos. Esses riscos alarmantes necessitam de intervenções a fim de promover um uso de medicamentos de forma responsável e aumentar o conhecimento da população acerca dos efeitos adversos dos fármacos e dos suplementos estimulantes. E isso sugere que o uso indevido de medicamentos por acadêmicos é um processo comum e requer atenção de profissionais e educadores.  Dessa forma, o objetivo central do trabalho é verificar a utilização de medicamentos e suplementos estimulantes entre os estudantes de uma Universidade Particular de Anápolis – Goiás. Para isso, será feito um estudo observacional, analítico e transversal por meio da aplicação de questionário aos alunos, de todos os períodos, dos cursos de Medicina, Odontologia, Direito, Psicologia, Engenharia de Software e Agronomia, sendo que a coleta de dados será realizada através dos formulários impressos ou online. Por fim, será possível avaliar a prevalência do uso de medicamentos e suplementos estimulantes entre os estudantes, por automedicação e por prescrição, para a melhoria do desenvolvimento acadêmico

    Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil: setting the baseline knowledge on the animal diversity in Brazil

    The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others

    COVID-19 symptoms at hospital admission vary with age and sex: results from the ISARIC prospective multinational observational study

    Background: The ISARIC prospective multinational observational study is the largest cohort of hospitalized patients with COVID-19. We present relationships of age, sex, and nationality to presenting symptoms. Methods: International, prospective observational study of 60 109 hospitalized symptomatic patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 recruited from 43 countries between 30 January and 3 August 2020. Logistic regression was performed to evaluate relationships of age and sex to published COVID-19 case definitions and the most commonly reported symptoms. Results: ‘Typical’ symptoms of fever (69%), cough (68%) and shortness of breath (66%) were the most commonly reported. 92% of patients experienced at least one of these. Prevalence of typical symptoms was greatest in 30- to 60-year-olds (respectively 80, 79, 69%; at least one 95%). They were reported less frequently in children (≤ 18 years: 69, 48, 23; 85%), older adults (≥ 70 years: 61, 62, 65; 90%), and women (66, 66, 64; 90%; vs. men 71, 70, 67; 93%, each P < 0.001). The most common atypical presentations under 60 years of age were nausea and vomiting and abdominal pain, and over 60 years was confusion. Regression models showed significant differences in symptoms with sex, age and country. Interpretation: This international collaboration has allowed us to report reliable symptom data from the largest cohort of patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19. Adults over 60 and children admitted to hospital with COVID-19 are less likely to present with typical symptoms. Nausea and vomiting are common atypical presentations under 30 years. Confusion is a frequent atypical presentation of COVID-19 in adults over 60 years. Women are less likely to experience typical symptoms than men

    O presente trabalho teve como objetivos o estudo das propriedades nanoestruturais, características morfológicas e avaliação do comportamento fotocatalítico de filmes de dióxido de titânio dopados com enxofre. Os filmes de TiO2 foram crescidos sobre borossilicato, por meio da técnica de MOCVD, na temperatura de 400 °C. O processo de dopagem com enxofre deu-se a partir do tratamento termoquímico de sulfetação, realizado sob atmosfera de H2 / 2%v. H2S, nas temperaturas de 50 °C, 100 °C e 150 °C, o que resultou em teores de S de 8 at.%, 3 at.% e 0,2 at.%, respectivamente. A degradação do corante alaranjado de metila foi utilizada para avaliar a atividade fotocatalítica dos filmes sob radiação ultravioleta e visível. Todos os filmes exibiram a formação da fase anatase, compostos por grãos bem definidos, e estrutura colunar densificada. Foi observada a formação de grupos SO42- na superfície dos filmes dopados, indicando a substituição dos íons Ti4+ pelo cátion S6+, e a formação da ligação Ti-O-S nos filmes. Os testes de degradação indicaram que os filmes de S-TiO2 apresentam atividade fotocatalítica tanto sob radiação UV, quanto em luz visível. O filme de 8 at.% S-TiO2, dopado a 50 °C, exibiu o melhor comportamento fotocatalítico, com 72,1 % de degradação do corante sob luz visível. Os resultados sugerem que a dopagem com S, além de formar uma morfologia favorável ao processo de fotocatálise, promoveu um deslocamento da absorção do TiO2 para a região do espectro visível, o que consequentemente permite a sua aplicação prática sob luz solar ou lâmpadas de luz visível.The present work aims the study of the nanostructural properties, morphological characteristics and photocatalytic behavior evaluation of sulfur-doped titanium dioxide films. TiO2 films were grown on borosilicate by MOCVD at 400 °C. Sulfur doping process was carried out by the thermochemical treatment under H2 / 2%v. H2S atmosphere at 50 °C, 100 °C and 150 °C, which resulted in S contents of 8 at%, 3 at% and 0.2 at%, respectively. Methyl orange dye degradation was used to evaluate the photocatalytic activity of the films under UV-Vis radiation. All films exhibited the formation of the anatase phase, composed to well-defined grains, and dense columnar structure. SO42- groups were observed on the surface of all S-doped films, indicating the substitution of the Ti4+ ions by the S6+ cation, and the formation of Ti-O-S bond in the films. Degradation tests indicated that the S:TiO2 films present photocatalytic activity both under UV radiation and visible light. 8 at.% S:TiO2 film, doped at 50 °C, presented a higher photocatalytic performance, with 72.1 % of dye degradation under visible light. The results suggest that the sulfur doping, besides forming a morphology favorable to the photocatalysis process, caused a shift of the TiO2 films absorption to the visible spectrum region, which allows their practical application under sunlight or visible light bulbs
