Inverse filtering and principal component analysis techniques for speech dereverberation

    Get PDF
In this work, we present a single channel approach for early and late reverberation suppression. This approach can be decomposed into two stages. The first stage employs the inverse filter to augment the signal-to-reverberant energy ratio. The second stage uses the kernel PCA algorithm to enhance the obtained dereverberant signal. It consists in extracting the main non-linear features from the speech signal after inverse filtering. Our approach appears to be efficient mainly in far field conditions and in highly reverberant environments

First record of three species of Pythium from Moroccan waters. Species of Pythium, including P.torulosum, P.catenulatum and P. "Group F", isolated from dam near Rabat city (capital of Morocco) in northern Africa, are described. Taxonomic and morphological details of the fungi are discussed. This work is the first report of these species from Moroccan waters.

إضافة إلى العمل على تدعيم ثقافة التمكين والإبداع في المؤسسة.his study aims to clarify the role of empowerment in the development of creativity among employees, through highlighting the contemporary administrative concept of empowerment supported by organizations and adopted by the management strategy in order to achieve goals more efficiently and effectively, in addition to briefing the subject of creativity and the pursuit of organizations to develop and get interested in it as a way to lead in the business world. Also, it has been dropped what has been presented in the theoretical side in the practical directorate of Algeria Telecom institution (Laghouat), and we have based to achieve this on a questionnaire  which was distributed to a random sample of workers in the organization estimated (53) person, in addition to an interview with the heads of departments and services. After the analysis of data collected using statistical methods with the program Spss19 and Excel 2007, we came to a set of conclusions and recommendations, and it was the most important: the direction of the sample towards the approval of the existence of empowerment organization despite the absence of participating in decision-making, work teams, training, effective communication, motivation, efficiency and competence, also the sample turned towards accepting the existence of creativity among workers. To arrive in the latter that there is a direct correlation statistically significant between the empowerment and development of creativity among workers  in the practical directorate of Algeria Telecom (Laghouat) at the level of significance (5%), and the study concluded a series of recommendations, including: the need to activate empowerment in the nominally six, namely: participation in decision making, work teams, training, effective communication, motivation, efficiency and competence. addition to working to strengthen a culture of empowerment and creativity in the enterprise

Deep Learning to Predict Falls in Older Adults Based on Daily-Life Trunk Accelerometry

Early detection of high fall risk is an essential component of fall prevention in older adults. Wearable sensors can provide valuable insight into daily-life activities; biomechanical features extracted from such inertial data have been shown to be of added value for the assessment of fall risk. Body-worn sensors such as accelerometers can provide valuable insight into fall risk. Currently, biomechanical features derived from accelerometer data are used for the assessment of fall risk. Here, we studied whether deep learning methods from machine learning are suited to automatically derive features from raw accelerometer data that assess fall risk. We used an existing dataset of 296 older adults. We compared the performance of three deep learning model architectures (convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM) and a combination of these two (ConvLSTM)) to each other and to a baseline model with biomechanical features on the same dataset. The results show that the deep learning models in a single-task learning mode are strong in recognition of identity of the subject, but that these models only slightly outperform the baseline method on fall risk assessment. When using multi-task learning, with gender and age as auxiliary tasks, deep learning models perform better. We also found that preprocessing of the data resulted in the best performance (AUC = 0.75). We conclude that deep learning models, and in particular multi-task learning, effectively assess fall risk on the basis of wearable sensor data

Prevalence and determinants of Leishmania major infection in emerging and old foci in Tunisia

International audienceBackground: Zoonotic Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (ZCL) due to Leishmania major (L. major) is still a serious public health problem in Tunisia. This study aimed to compare the prevalence and risk factors associated with L. major infection in old and new foci using leishmanin skin test (LST) in central Tunisia. Methods: A cross sectional household survey was carried out between January and may09 on a sample of 2686 healthy individuals aged between 5 and 65 years. We determined the prevalence of L. major infection using the LST. Risk factors of LST positivity were assessed using a logistic regression model. Results: The overall prevalence of LST positivity was 57% (95% CI: 53-59). The prevalence of L. major infection was significantly higher in the old focus (99%; 95% CI: 98-100) than in the emerging foci (43%; 95% CI: 39-46) (p = <0.001). Multivariate analysis of LST positivity risk factors showed that age, the nature of the foci (old/emerging), personal and family history of ZCL are determinants of positive LST results. Conclusion: The results updated the current epidemiologic profile of ZLC in central Tunisia. Past history of transmission in a population should be considered as a potential confounder in future clinical trials for drugs and vaccines against L. major cutaneous leishmaniasis
