Una herencia clásica en El sombrero de tres picos: el honor frente al abuso de poder
Aproximación a El sombrero de tres picos de Pedro Antonio de Alarcón atendiendo a la actitud de los protagonistas, el tratamiento del tema del honor, el abuso de los poderes sobre el pueblo, etc., temas rastreables en la literatura española desde el corpus dramático en el siglo XVII. La conclusión es que esta novela bebe del teatro clásico tanto en la selección de materiales como en el tratamiento literario. An approach to Pedro Antonio de Alarcón’s El sombrero de tres picos focusing on the attitude of the main characters, the handling of the theme of honor, the abuse of power over the people, etc., subjects traced in Spanish literature since the dramatic corpus in the 17th century. The conclusion is that this novel imbibes from the classic theatre in its selection of materials as much as in its literary treatment
Temperature dependence and temporal dynamics of Mn2+ upconversion luminescence sensitized by Yb3+ in codoped LaMgAl11O19
A detailed spectroscopic study of the upconversion properties in Mn2+-Yb3+ codoped LaMgAl11O19 is presented. Pulsed and continuous-wave infrared excitation in the 2F7/2--2F5/2 Yb3+ absorption peaks induces broad Mn2+ green emission at 19450 cm-1, which is assigned to the 4T1--6A1 transition in tetrahedral Mn2+ and sharp peaks associated with Yb3+-pairs luminescence. Both emissions have very different temporal evolution and can be separated by time-resolved spectroscopy. Among the different concentrations under investigation, the 2%Mn2+-5%Yb3+ codoped system presents the highest upconversion efficiency. The corresponding emission remains visible to the naked eye up to 650 K. The time dependence of the Mn2+ luminescence upon Yb3+ excitation shows distinct behaviors for different doping concentrations. The temporal evolution of the intensity for the diluted system doped with 2%Mn2+ and 5%Yb3+ together with the pure manganese compound doped with 1%Yb3+, as well as the temperature dependence of the upconversion emission intensity and lifetime are relevant to identify the underlying upconversion mechanisms. We show that the main processes responsible for upconversion in this doubly transition-metal rare-earth doped oxide are both ground-state absorption (GSA)/excited-state absorption and GSA/energy-transfer upconversion. Survey and characterization of corbelled dome architecture in Northwestern Portugal
The act of overlaying stones to build masonry structures is one of mankind’s most intuitive and resourceful achievements. Masonry buildings can be found all over the world, built with a wide diversity of materials and serving for all kind of purposes. In rural northwestern Portugal, in a granitic highland landscape of scarce resources, for centuries, local farmers used masonry in order to make the territory suitable for farming. In their effort to increase production and, by doing so, to improve their living conditions, a specific mountain agro-pastoral system was developed. Supported by communitarian labour, this system was based on terrace farming and temporary mountain plateau settlements, called brandas, composed of granite corbelled dome buildings. In spite of its perfect adaptation to the harsh local conditions, this heritage’s morphological and typological diversity and constructive inventiveness is endangered due to decades of rural exodus and, thus requiring urgent study and protection. The research project aims to study this heritage from morphological, typological and constructive points of view, with the objective of proposing guidelines towards its preservation. To achieve the established goals, a four stage based methodology was established. Literature review and fieldwork surveys were performed in the first stage, in order to identify possible case studies. On the second stage, an exhaustive geometrical survey and a case study analysis were undertaken and complemented with the local granite’s physical and mechanical characterization. The third stage aims to do an overall structural safety evaluation of the corbelled domes, based on numerical analysis. In the final stage, consolidation and preservation guidelines to safeguard this architectural heritage will be proposed. Safety and Family-Centered Care during Restriction of Hospital Visits due to COVID-19: The Experience of Family Members
Background: Person and Family Centered Care (PFCC) has demonstrated important contributions to health care outcomes. However, in response to the need for safety due to the pandemic COVID-19, measures were taken to restrict hospital visits. So, the aim of this study was to understand the healthcare experience of family members of patients hospitalized during the pandemic period regarding safety and person- and family-centered care. Methods: Qualitative interpretative study, conducted through semi-structured interviews with six family members of people hospitalized during the pandemic period. Content analysis was performed using Atlas.ti software version 22 (Berlin, Germany) and Bardin’s methodology. Results and Conclusions: Restrictions on hospital visits due to the pandemic of COVID-19 have led to a distancing of families from the hospital setting and influenced healthcare practice, making it difficult to involve families in the care process. In some cases, healthcare professionals made efforts to provide PFCC, attempting to minimize the impact of the visitation restriction. However, there were reported experiences of care delivery that did not consider social and psychological factors and did not place the person and family at the center of the care process, relying instead on the biomedical model. These practices left out important factors for the provision of safe care. It is crucial, even in pandemic settings, that healthcare professionals provide person- and family-centered care to the extent possible, promoting the safety of care. The construction of the transhumance territory of the Gerês-Xurés: Vernacular heritage identification, analysis and characterization
In order to ensure survival, the rural populations of the Gerês-Xurés mountain range transboundary region developed, over centuries, a very specific system of vertical transhumance. Focus on making the most out of their natural landscape harsh conditions, human intervention shaped the territory, and gave birth to the existent and very authentic vernacular heritage, that has in the corbelled dome building technologies one of its most characteristic identity features.
In the pursuit of fertile land, villages were scattered in small and compact settlements, built at lower altitude and occupied all year long. The surrounding mountain’s slopes were turned into farming terraces, and the high-altitude plateaus were for livestock and farming, thru temporary settlements built in corbelled dome structures. These vital points were interconnect by a dense network of paths and masonry walls. Although the resemblance between most of the region permanent settlements, the temporary nuclei, due to each mountain particular features, show a large morphological and functional diversity, from complex structures, like the “brandas” or the “brandas e inverneiras” system, to very simple pasture areas, like the “currais”. Understanding the high potential of this endanger vernacular heritage is a key point for its preservation, as well as its recognition by the scientific community and society in general. A previous study aimed at the “brandas” morphological and constructive characterization was presented at the Rehabend 2016. This follow-up study is focus on, in a first level, the identification and characterization of the general system main features, and, in a second level, the evaluation of this vernacular heritage main preservation threats. The research, based on case studies analysed thru fieldwork surveys, geometrical and constructive, and literature support, allowed to identify the main morphological and typological features related to the heritage elements that take part in this occupation system, and are discussed in this paper.Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation for the scholarships granted (SFRH/BD/ 86704/2012

Valvular Aortic Stenosis: A Proteomic Insight
Calcified aortic valve disease is a slowly progressive disorder that ranges from mild valve thickening with no obstruction of blood flow, known as aortic sclerosis, to severe calcification with impaired leaflet motion or aortic stenosis. In the present work we describe a rapid, reproducible and effective method to carry out proteomic analysis of stenotic human valves by conventional 2-DE and 2D-DIGE, minimizing the interference due to high calcium concentrations. Furthermore, the protocol permits the aortic stenosis proteome to be analysed, advancing our knowledge in this area

The Portuguese Glial Network invites you to attend the VII Symposium of the Portuguese Glial Network, in collaboration with Red Glial Española. The Symposium will be held in Albufeira (Algarve) on May 2, 2023, as a satellite meeting of the FENS Regional Meeting 2023.
This year, we will have six invited speakers to bring us the latest on glial cell physiology, biology, signaling, and ultrastructure: Amanda Sierra (Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience and Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Spain), Ana Luísa Cardoso (University of Coimbra, Portugal), Christa Rhiner (Champalimaud Research Program, Portugal), Corrado Calì (Università degli Studi di Torino, Italy), Juliana Rosa (Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos – IDISCAM, Spain) and Renzo Mancuso (Universiteit Antwerpen, Belgium). Analyzing the determinants of e-commerce in small and medium-sized enterprises: a cognition-driven framework
The increasing use of information technology in enterprises’ daily operations has led to multiple innovative ways to run a business, including electronic commerce (hereafter, e-commerce). However, firms with fewer resources, such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), are more reluctant to use electronic channels during transactions. This aversion to contemporary business models is a result of these companies’ lack of knowledge and capabilities regarding e-commerce. To improve their businesses, SMEs’ managers and decision makers could benefit from a methodological framework that fosters a deeper understanding of the determinants of e-commerce. This study sought to explore the use of fuzzy cognitive mapping to address this need. The results are grounded in the knowledge and experience of a panel of experts in e-commerce. The fuzzy cognitive map (FCM) developed shows that entrepreneur profile, market, operational management, marketing and promotions, website and digital platform, and products present the highest centrality indices as determinants of SME e-commerce. The findings offer a better understanding of the cause-and-effect relationships between these determinants. The advantages, limitations, and shortcomings of our constructivist proposal are also discussed.

The biota of the Upper Cretaceous site of Lo Hueco (Cuenca, Spain)
The Late Cretaceous (Campanian-Maastrichtian) fossil site of Lo Hueco was recently discovered close to the village of Fuentes (Cuenca,
Spain) during the cutting of a little hill for installation of the railway of the Madrid-Levante high-speed train. To date, it has yielded a rich
collection of well-preserved Cretaceous macrofossils, including plants, invertebrates, and vertebrates. The recovered fossil assemblage
is mainly composed of plants, molluscs (bivalves and gastropods), actinopterygians and teleosteans fishes, amphibians, panpleurodiran
(bothremydids) and pancryptodiran turtles, squamate lizards, eusuchian crocodyliforms, rhabdodontid ornithopods, theropods (mainly
dromaeosaurids), and titanosaur sauropods. This assemblage was deposited in a near-coast continental muddy floodplain crossed by distributary
sandy channels, exposed intermittently to brackish or marine and freshwater flooding as well as to partial or total desiccation events.The Konzentrat-Lagerstatt of Lo Hueco constitutes a singular accumulation of fossils representing individuals of some particular lineages
of continental tetrapods, especially titanosaurs, eusuchians and bothremydid turtles. In the case of the titanosaurs, the site has yielded
multiple partial skeletons in anatomical connection or with a low dispersion of their skeletal elements. A combination of new taxa, new
records of taxa previously known in the Iberian Peninsula, and relatively common taxa in the European record compose the Lo Hueco biota.
The particular conditions of the fossil site of Lo Hueco and the preliminary results indicate that the analysis of the geological context, the
floral and faunal content, and the taphonomical features of the site provide elements that will be especially useful for reassess the evolutionary
history of some lineages of European Late Cretaceous reptiles.Peer reviewe
