Efficiency of Combined Processes Coagulation/Solar Photo Fenton in the Treatment of Landfill Leachate

    Get PDF
The combined coagulation-solar photo Fenton treatment of leachate from the sanitary landfill located in Atlantico-Colombia was investigated. Firstly, the efficiency of two alternative combined treatments for the reduction of chemical oxygen demand in leachate was assessed, coagulation with poly-aluminum chloride followed by solar photo-Fenton process (Treatment 1) and coagulation with FeCl3·6H2O followed by ferrioxalate-induced solar photo-Fenton process (Treatment 2). Afterwards, treatments 1 and 2 were compared with the treatment currently used in the sanitary landfill (only coagulation with poly-aluminum chloride), in terms of efficiency and costs. An optimization study of alternative treatments was performed combining central-composite experimental design and response surface methodology. The optimum conditions resulted in a chemical oxygen demand reduction of 73 % and 80 % for Treatment 1 and 2, respectively. Both alternative treatments for the leachate are more efficient than the treatment currently used in the sanitary landfill (chemical oxygen demand reduction of 20 %). In terms of costs, treatment 1 would be the most competitive to implement in the sanitary landfill, since this would have an increase of 13.3 % in the total unitary cost compared to an increase of 39.5 % of treatment 2

Limitations in the use of the IEC standard method for detection and analysis of rapid voltage changes in power system networks

IEC 61000-4-30 has recently defined a method for detection and analysis of rapid voltage changes in power system networks. This paper presents some of the results obtained in the application of the IEC standard method in different low-voltage and medium-voltage power system networks with different load types and some of the limitations found in the standard method for the correct detection and characterization of these voltage events

Collaborative work of the course of Diploma in SCM and logistics of the group 207115_42, belonging to the academic program of the period 1602 of 2022. The supply chain has been considered as an important and necessary structure in any economy, its study allows organizations to enhance the development of production and marketing of goods and services, in that sense, knowing the relationships and dependencies of an organization in a supply chain helps to increase its competitiveness and profitability, in addition to maintaining direct contact with each member of the supply chain and incorporating new information technology tools, communication and an appropriate management system. For this reason in the course of this diploma course 11 phases were addressed that required the entire team of students to focus on the different contents that make up a supply chain and under the expertise and knowledge acquired to propose an improvement in the Supply Chain Management and Logistics of the company RAMO SA. This work is structured in 11 main parts, within which there is an initial description of the company, its organizational structure, both vertical and horizontal, the basic approach process and APICS-SCOR, identification of the supply chain, the position of the country compared to other nations, inventory management, procurement and analysis of mega trends

Genome-wide mapping reveals conserved and diverged R-loop activities in the unusual genetic landscape of the African trypanosome genome

R-loops are stable RNA–DNA hybrids that have been implicated in transcription initiation and termination, as well as in telomere maintenance, chromatin formation, and genome replication and instability. RNA Polymerase (Pol) II transcription in the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma brucei is highly unusual: virtually all genes are co-transcribed from multigene transcription units, with mRNAs generated by linked trans-splicing and polyadenylation, and transcription initiation sites display no conserved promoter motifs. Here, we describe the genome-wide distribution of R-loops in wild type mammal-infective T. brucei and in mutants lacking RNase H1, revealing both conserved and diverged functions. Conserved localization was found at centromeres, rRNA genes and retrotransposon-associated genes. RNA Pol II transcription initiation sites also displayed R-loops, suggesting a broadly conserved role despite the lack of promoter conservation or transcription initiation regulation. However, the most abundant sites of R-loop enrichment were within the regions between coding sequences of the multigene transcription units, where the hybrids coincide with sites of polyadenylation and nucleosome-depletion. Thus, instead of functioning in transcription termination the most widespread localization of R-loops in T. brucei suggests a novel correlation with pre-mRNA processing. Finally, we find little evidence for correlation between R-loop localization and mapped sites of DNA replication initiation
