AbstractThe electroactive and blue luminescent substituted diphenyl quinoline derivative OMe-DPQ and Cl -DPQ have been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR. The optical properties are investigated by UV–vis absorption and photoluminescence (PL) measurements. The polymeric compounds show two absorption peaks and exhibits intense blue photoluminescence in solid-state crystalline powder, in chloroform solution and blended thin films. OMe-DPQ and Cl-DPQ show intense blue emitting emission in different solvents. A narrow full width at half-maximum (FWHM) value of PL spectra can be obtained, may be useful for developing organic luminescent devices, solar cell devices, or in chemical sensors
