    Population growth and territorial’s changes in the Salcedo urban center, Puno

    The urban expansion process generates negative effects on natural settings; this process is mainly caused by population growth that transforms natural territories for urban uses. The study aims to explain territorial changes as an effect of population growth in the urban center of Salcedo (Puno), understanding that population growth is one of the human actions that transforms natural territories and generates irreversible environmental effects. Methodologically, the study was based on the description of the current situation (diagnosis), for this the territorial analysis was carried out with the support of thematic mapping, referring to physical, spatial, and environmental aspects, to then process the information in the GIS software (ARC VIEW 3.2); subsequently, the perception of the population regarding the occupation of natural territories and deterioration of the environment was assessed. The results obtained report that the urban center of Salcedo experienced an accelerated population growth in the last decades, which directly influenced the increase of its urban area by 319 hectares; reducing natural rural areas to 302.4 hectares; This modification in the increase of its urban area has generated negative and adverse effects on the natural territory, occupying areas not suitable for urban uses, deterioration of the environment and pollution.El proceso de expansión urbana genera efectos negativos sobre los escenarios naturales, este proceso es ocasionado principalmente por el crecimiento poblacional que transforma los territorios naturales para usos urbanos. El estudio tiene como objetivo explicar los cambios territoriales como efecto del crecimiento poblacional en el centro urbano de Salcedo (Puno), entendiéndose que el crecimiento poblacional es una de las acciones humanas que transforma los territorios naturales y que genera efectos ambientales irreversibles. Metodológicamente, el estudio se basó en la descripción de la situación actual (diagnóstico), para ello se realizó el análisis territorial con apoyo de cartografía temática, referida a aspectos físico-espaciales y ambientales, para luego procesar la información en el software SIG (ARC VIEW 3.2); posteriormente se valoró la percepción de la población sobre la ocupación de territorios naturales y deterioro del medio ambiente. Los resultados obtenidos reportan que el centro urbano de Salcedo experimentó, un crecimiento poblacional acelerado en las últimas décadas, el cual incidió directamente en el incremento de su área urbana en 319 hectáreas; reduciéndose las áreas rurales naturales a 302,4 hectáreas; esta modificación en el incremento de su área urbana ha generado efectos negativos y adversos sobre el territorio natural, ocupando zonas no aptas para usos urbanos, deterioro del medio ambiente y contaminación

    Artigo submetido ao Curso de Engenharia Civil, da Universidade do Extremo Sul Catarinense – UNESC, como requisito parcial para obtenção do Título de Engenheira Civil.A NBR 6118:2014 atualizou o cálculo estimado do módulo de elasticidade, inserindo um coeficiente (AlphaE), que leva em consideração a origem geológica do agregado graúdo. Ela estabelece valores fixos para cada tipologia de rocha, quais sejam: basalto e diabásio 1,2; granito e gnaisse por 1,0; calcário por 0,9 e arenito por 0,7. O principal objetivo do estudo foi verificar por meio de ensaios mecânicos esses valores com amostras obtidas de diferentes cidades do sul do Brasil localizadas no estado de: PR, SC, RS. As amostras analisadas foram misturadas à partir de três traços de referência, e foram ensaiadas à compressão simples e determinação do módulo de elasticidade na idade de 28 dias após a confecção. Os resultados experimentais apresentaram valores variando, em relação aos valores da norma, para cada tipo de rocha: basalto cerca de 3,33% maior; diabásio cerca de 5,83% maior; granito 2,77% menor; gnaisse 25,00% maior e calcário 31,11% maior

    Dry Dosage Forms of Add-Value Bioactive Phenolic Compounds by Supercritical CO2-Assisted Spray-Drying

These are a rich source of natural antioxidants, mostly phenolic compounds, which, when properly extracted, can give rise to added-value products. However, their lack of solubility in aqueous media and high susceptibility to thermal and oxidative degradation highly limit their bioavailability. Encapsulation in suitable carriers may have a positive impact on their bioavailability and bioactivity. Previous data on vine-shoot extraction have identified gallic acid (GA) and resveratrol (RSV) as the main phenolic compounds. In this work, model dry powder formulations (DPFs) of GA and RSV using hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) as carriers were developed using Supercritical CO2-Assisted Spray Drying (SASD). A 32 full factorial Design of Experiments investigated the solid and ethanol contents to ascertain process yield, particle size, span, and encapsulation efficiency. Amorphous powder yields above 60%, and encapsulation efficiencies up to 100% were achieved, representing excellent performances. SASD has proven to be an efficient encapsulation technique for these phenolic compounds, preserving their antioxidation potential after three months in storage with average EC50 values of 30.6 µg/mL for GA–DPFs and 149.4 µg/mL for RSV–DPF as assessed by the scavenging capacity of the DPPH radical.publishersversionpublishe

    Objective: The objective of the study was to determine if fine-needle aspiration biopsy is a safe method to diagnose breast cancer in women with a palpable breast tumor. Materials and methods: A prospective, analytical and cross-sectional study on cancer prevention conducted in 105 women with a palpable breast tumor who went to the Department of Cancer Prevention and Diagnosis of the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas (INEN) from July 1, 2014 to April 30, 2015. The study sample was selected through non-probabilistic sampling, and based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The average age was significantly higher in the group with a malignant pathological result (51.21 years). It was observed that, as age increases, benign pathologies decrease in frequency in comparison with malignant pathologies that increase in frequency. It was also observed that out of the total of 105 women with a palpable tumor, 35.2% had a malignant pathology and 64.8% had a benign pathology. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were estimated at 94%, 96%, 94% and 96%, respectively. The diagnostic safety of the FNAB was 90.3% Conclusions: Fine-needle aspiration biopsy is a safe diagnostic method for the detection of breast cancer in women with palpable breast tumors

    Relação entre nível de atividade f/ísica em lazer, antropometria, composição corporal e aptidão física de mulheres submetidas à cirurgia bariátrica e um grupo equivalente não operado

    Background: Bariatric surgery is an alternative to the obesity treatment. Aim: To compare anthropometric variables such as body composition and physical fitness of those who performed Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Methods: Were evaluated 108 women. They were subdivided in three groups: those who performed the bariatric surgery by private health insurance (SAS, n=36)by the public health care (SUS, n=36), and an equivalent group which did not perform the surgery (NO, n=36). Were performed physical fitness, anthropometric and body composition tests. Was evaluated the level of physical activity during the leisure period. Results: Statistically significant differences were observed between the groups sedentary operated (n=28) and sedentary non-operated (n=13) on anthropometry and fat percentage, being the highest indexes in the group operated. Conclusion: The level of physical activity showed a positive influence related to anthropometric variables, body composition of the individuals who performed the bariatric surgery when compared to the ones non-operated.Racional: Observa-se o aumento da realização da cirurgia bariátrica como alternativa de tratamento para obesidade. Objetivo: Comparar a antropometria, composição corporal e aptidão física de pacientes submetidos ao bypass gástrico em Y-de-Roux. Métodos: Foram avaliadas 108 mulheres subdivididas em: operadas por convênios de saúde particulares (SAS, n=36), Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS, n=36) e um grupo equivalente não operado (NO, n=36). Foram realizados testes de aptidão física, antropometria e composição corporal, e avaliado nível de atividade física no lazer. Resultados: Não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa nas variáveis estudadas entre os grupos SAS, SUS e NO. Observaram-se diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre os grupos operados sedentários (n=28) e não operados sedentários (n=13) na antropometria e percentual de gordura, sendo ao grupo operado os índices mais altos.     Severity of anthracnose and fresh weight losses of sweet passion fruits (Passiflora alata Dryander) from ten origins, stored in two environmental conditions

    Frutos de maracujá-doce de dez procedências foram avaliados quanto à severidade da antracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz.) e quanto à perda de matéria fresca em dois ambientes de armazenamento: câmara fria (5ºC e UR de 90%) e em ambiente de sala (23±1ºC e UR de 65±5%). Plantas provenientes de frutos colhidos em estado nativo ou adquiridos nos mercados da Central de Abastecimento de São Paulo- CEAGESP, procedências A, B e C; Viçosa-MG, procedência D; Tomé-Açu-PA, procedência E; Itacoatiara-AM, procedência F; Ouro Preto d'Oeste-RO, procedência G; Domingos Martins-ES, procedência H; Pontes e Lacerda-MT, procedência I; e Rondonópolis-MT, procedência J, foram estabelecidas no Distrito Federal. Após as primeiras colheitas, a melhor planta de cada procedência, selecionada pela maior taxa de vingamento, coloração da casca, tamanho do fruto e menor espessura de casca, foi multiplicada por estaquia. Frutos de três plantas clonadas de cada procedência, obtidos por polinização natural, foram colhidos de vez e mantidos em caixas de papelão padrão. As avaliações do percentual de perda de matéria fresca foram efetuadas no dia da colheita (tempo zero), aos 3; 6; 9 e 12 dias após, enquanto a severidade da antracnose (% da superfície do fruto ocupada por lesões) e incidência (% de frutos atacados) de outras doenças foram quantificadas aos 12 dias de armazenamento. As procedências com menores índices de antracnose foram a I e G. Os frutos armazenados em câmara fria foram menos afetados pela doença. As procedências G e A foram as que, ao final dos doze dias de armazenamento, perderam menos matéria fresca sendo, respectivamente, de 16,68% e 17,86% em ambiente de sala e de 7,71 e 6,61% em câmara fria. Considerando-se a média de todas as procedências, aos 12 dias de armazenamento, a menor perda de matéria fresca (9,78%) ocorreu em câmara fria, contra 22,06% em ambiente de sala. As procedências A, E, F, G e J perderam menos matéria fresca em ambiente natural que as demais.Sweet passion fruit (Passiflora alata Dryander) from ten different sources were evaluated for the severity of anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Penz.) and their fresh weight losses when stored in two environmental conditions: cold storage (5ºC and 90% R.H.) and room temperature (23±1ºC and 65±5% R.H.). Seed plants were established from ten sources proceeding from the Central of Food Supply of São Paulo State - CEAGESP (sources A, B e C), Viçosa-MG (source D), Tomé-Açu-PA (source E), Itacoatiara-AM (source F), Ouro Preto d'Oeste-RO (source G), Domingos Martins-ES (source H), Pontes e Lacerda-MT (source I), Rondonópolis-MT (source J) and stem cuttings were collected from the best plants to produce the asexual matrix plants. Unriped fruits produced in Distrito Federal, Brazil, were harvested from plants obtained by stem-rooted cuttings. All origins were collected in wild conditions, except A, B, C and E sources. Fruit evaluations were done by determining their weight fresh matter after 0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 days after harvesting, whereas the anthracnose severity (% of fruit area with lesions) and incidence (% of infected fruits) of other diseases were evaluated after 12 days of storage. The anthracnose was less severe on fruits from sources I and G, however, this disease shown less severe attack when fruits were stored in cold conditions. After 12 days of storage at room temperature, the fruit sources G and A, had fresh matter losses of 16,68% and 17,86% while in cold storage the fresh matter losses were 7,71% and 6,61%, respectively. The percentage of fresh matter loss of G, A, E, J and F fruit sources was less in room temperature when compared with other sources. It was observed after 12 days at cold storage, that the fresh matter loss shown an average of 9,78%, which is approximately twice lower the storage at room temperature (22,06%)

    A cell surface arabinogalactan-peptide influences root hair cell fate

    Root hairs (RHs) develop from specialized epidermal trichoblast cells, whereas epidermal cells that lack RHs are known as atrichoblasts. The mechanism controlling RH cell fate is only partially understood.RH cell fate is regulated by a transcription factor complex that promotes the expression of the homeodomain protein GLABRA 2 (GL2), which blocks RH development by inhibiting ROOT HAIR DEFECTIVE 6 (RHD6). Suppression of GL2 expression activates RHD6, a series of downstream TFs including ROOT HAIR DEFECTIVE 6 LIKE‐4 (RSL4) and their target genes, and causes epidermal cells to develop into RHs. Brassinosteroids (BRs) influence RH cell fate. In the absence of BRs, phosphorylated BIN2 (a Type‐II GSK3‐like kinase) inhibits a protein complex that regulates GL2 expression.Perturbation of the arabinogalactan peptide (AGP21) in Arabidopsis thaliana triggers aberrant RH development, similar to that observed in plants with defective BR signaling. We reveal that an O‐glycosylated AGP21 peptide, which is positively regulated by BZR1, a transcription factor activated by BR signaling, affects RH cell fate by altering GL2 expression in a BIN2‐dependent manner.Changes in cell surface AGP disrupts BR responses and inhibits the downstream effect of BIN2 on the RH repressor GL2 in root epidermis.Fil: Borassi, Cecilia.
