A Topic-Agnostic Approach for Identifying Fake News Pages

Fake news and misinformation have been increasingly used to manipulate popular opinion and influence political processes. To better understand fake news, how they are propagated, and how to counter their effect, it is necessary to first identify them. Recently, approaches have been proposed to automatically classify articles as fake based on their content. An important challenge for these approaches comes from the dynamic nature of news: as new political events are covered, topics and discourse constantly change and thus, a classifier trained using content from articles published at a given time is likely to become ineffective in the future. To address this challenge, we propose a topic-agnostic (TAG) classification strategy that uses linguistic and web-markup features to identify fake news pages. We report experimental results using multiple data sets which show that our approach attains high accuracy in the identification of fake news, even as topics evolve over time.Comment: Accepted for publication in the Companion Proceedings of the 2019 World Wide Web Conference (WWW'19 Companion). Celiac Crisis In Adults: A Case Report And Review Of The Literature Focusing In The Prevention Of Refeeding Syndrome

Celiac crisis is a life-threatening complication of celiac disease that is rarely described in adults. Case report: We report the case of a 31-year-old man with celiac crisis as a first manifestation of celiac disease. The patient presented with severe diarrhea, metabolic acidosis, and electrolyte disturbances accompanied by electrocardiographic alterations. A satisfactory clinical response was obtained after the correction of electrolyte abnormalities, hydration, and nutritional support with a gluten-free diet according to recommendations for patients at high risk of refeeding syndrome. Discussion: Celiac crisis generally occurs in patients with no previous diagnosis of celiac disease. The physician should therefore be aware of this diagnosis and consider celiac crisis in cases of unexplained intense secretory diarrhea, metabolic acidosis and severe electrolyte alterations in adults. The risk of refeeding syndrome should be assessed when a gluten-free diet is introduced and treatment of celiac crisis should include prevention and management of this possible complication.1091676

Assessing Intercultural Competence in Language Teacher Education

This paper investigates the concept(s) of intercultural competence held by undergraduate students from teacher education courses in English and German languages. To this end, first and fourth year undergraduates of English and German from a federal university in Rio de Janeiro answered two versions of a questionnaire designed to lead students to inductively formulate what they understood as intercultural competence and how they would help their future students develop this competence. Responses were submitted to content analysis and the four groups were compared. Results show that students of English and German who participated in this study hold different perspectives on intercultural competence and one of the reasons for that may be attributed to their educational background.O presente artigo investiga o(s) conceito(s) de competência intercultural de alunos de graduação de cursos de formação de professores em inglês e alemão. Nesse sentido, graduandos do primeiro e quarto ano de inglês e alemão de uma universidade federal do Rio de Janeiro responderam a duas versões de um questionário construído de tal forma que permitisse aos alunos formular indutivamente o que eles entendiam como competência intercultural e como eles poderiam auxiliar seus futuros alunos a desenvolver esta competência. As respostas foram submetidas à análise de conteúdo e os quatro grupos foram comparados. Os resultados mostram que os graduandos de inglês e alemão que participaram desta pesquisa apresentam perspectivas diversas sobre competência intercultural. CARACTERÍSTICAS DO RELACIONAMENTO ENTRE A MULHER E SEU PARCEIRO NA OCORRÊNCIA DE GRAVIDEZ NÃO PLANEJADA

Objetivos: caracterizar os parceiros de mulheres em situação de gravidez não planejada e descrever características do relacionamento entre o parceiro e sua companheira segundo as mulheres. Método: estudo transversal mediante entrevista com 191 mulheres grávidas cadastradas na Estratégia Saúde da Família. Na análise estatística, as diferenças entre as proporções foram verificadas pelo Teste Qui-quadrado de Pearson e Exato de Fischer com nível de 5% de significância estatística. Resultados: Os parceiros apresentaram idade média de 28 anos, predominando raça/cor negra, sem religião, baixo nível de escolaridade e baixa renda. A situação conjugal casada/união estável e o tempo de união apresentaram alta significância estatística para a ocorrência da gravidez não planejada. Conclusão: Os parceiros têm situação socioeconômica desfavorável ao acesso a informações. E a conjugalidade é um importante fator para a ocorrência e aceitação da gravidez, todavia é preciso estimular a co-responsabilidade masculina, ressaltando-se o papel da equipe multiprofissional na atenção básica. Descritores: Gravidez não planejada. Contrasting High Scientific Production with Low International Collaboration and Scientific Impact: The Brazilian Case

The article presents an analysis of scientific production and impact among 35 most productive countries in the world. In the period 2000–2016, these countries produced 92% of the world publications. A correlation of international collaboration and scientific impact is shown. Differently from this pattern, Brazil shows high quantitative performance but low scientific impact, which is attributed to its low level of international collaboration. By contrast, instead of a generalized cooperation, as many undeveloped countries do, Brazil uses its internal effort to explore cooperation in a more symmetrical manner. Thus, in several areas, Brazil occupies a prominent position, including technological sectors, enabling it to occupy the eighth world’s economy position. The data confirm that an efficient internal scientific effort combined with well-balanced international cooperation can be more effective to enable countries to achieve higher levels of development in order to meet their technical and socioeconomic challenges. Política educacional e os paradigmas éticos no cenário atual:um breve estudo

Este trabalho desenvolve uma breve reflexão sobre ética e educação, abordando o questionamento sobre ética e poder e os paradigmas éticos e a educação. Busca, à luz da argumentação, levantar uma indagação sobre a função social da escola e as diretrizes da política educacional, política que se orienta pelos princípios de igualdade e de eqüidade, fundamentados no pressuposto da qualidade social do processo educativo que ocorre no sistema de ensino. Em razão dessa indagação, aponta-se para os elementos de insegurança e vulnerabilidade que atuam sobre os valores e normas de convivência, gerando questionamentos sobre as representações elaboradas pelos indivíduos a partir de um conteúdo axiológico objetivado, que se apresenta como categoria ontológico-social. Considera-se moral e política como sistemas normativos distintos e se faz uma breve leitura do repto que se apresenta à política educacional na realidade dos atuais cenários político e econômico, em que se situam mais agudamente as questões de concentração de renda e exclusão social. Aborda-se a educação como um projeto simultaneamente político e filosófico, acolhendo-se as dimensões que compõem o paradigma da educação. Palavras-chave: Ética. Política educacional. One points out to the insecurity and vulnerability elements that act on the values and standards of sociability, generating questions on social representations elaborated by individuals and their axiological contents. Moral and politics are considered distinct normative systems and one makes a brief reading of the challenge that is presented to the educational policy in the scenario where income concentration and social exclusion are more acutely situated. Education is considered as a project simultaneously political and philosophical, having in mind the dimensions that form the educational paradigm. Keywords: Ethics. Educational policy.
