Gymnastics as a discipline of primary school in the years of Italian unification. A proposal for a historiographical «re-contextualization»

    Get PDF
The contribution aims to suggest some research paths to begin a study on Gymnastics in the primary school during the years of Italian unification, starting from the analysis of the well-known literature which have dealt with physical activities in that period. Many of these publications – often arising from a non-academic intention and, in any case, characterized by a thematic and methodological eclecticism – are influenced by a historiographical tradition that has studied physical education without a specific attention on the elementary school. Therefore, the essay proposes a «re-contextualization» of the research that focuses on school Gymnastics and examines this topic according to a consistent heuristic view. Even on the basis of studies that have already taken a similar approach, it points out the new sources to be used and outlines new interpretative perspectives that, complying with the most recent instances of educational historiography, can reconstruct the first steps of Gymnastics as a discipline in the curriculum of Italian primary school

Optimal Water Allocation for an Alpine Hydropower System Under Changing Scenarios

    Get PDF
The operating rules of water allocation in the alpine OFIMA hydropower network of the Maggia River basin (Canton Tessin, Switzerland) are investigated in response to changes in the production policy and environmental and climatic factors. The study was carried out by means of a nonlinear programming approach where the objective function is approximated to a quadratic form with linear constraints, and implemented on a monthly time scale. Two systemís configurations with different details were accordingly investigated and compared to assess the response of the hydropower network to changes in the production policy, in the magnitude of the inflows and to different environmental requests. The optimal solution of water allocation corresponding to the new hypothetical production policy shows marked differences but similar benefits when compared to the one of the present operating rules, thus suggesting the good flexibility of the real network under such change. In its whole, this paper therefore highlights the importance of supporting strategic decisions by means of informatics tools and, in addiction, it provides a useful case study to test the performances of the software AQUARIUS implementing such a nonlinear programming techniqu

Physical Education for Italian School Children during the Totalitarian Fascist Regime

    Get PDF
Recent general and educational historiography suggests that, under Mussolini, physical training was viewed as a key instrument for disciplining children’s ideas and values as well as their bodies, and thus for inoculating them with fascist ideology. In this essay, I trace the evolution of the regime’s totalitarian educational project in relation to the teaching of physical education in primary schools, a novel topic and heuristic perspective that has been typically overlooked by historiographers. To this end, I analyse national legislation, school curricula, ministerial circulars, and teachers’ manuals and journals, examining developments in physical education for school-age children in terms of both its pedagogical or ideological meanings and the teaching methods adopted

Laser powder-bed fusion of Inconel 718 to manufacture turbine blades

    Get PDF
In the frame of additive manufacturing of metals, laser powder-bed fusion is investigated in this paper as an advanced industrial prototyping tool to manufacture Inconel 718 turbine blades at a predesign stage before flow production. Expediting of the evaluation of any upgrade to the part is aimed. To this purpose, possible anisotropy of manufacturing is preliminarily investigated via tensile testing at room and elevated temperature as a function of the sloping angle with the building plate; the normalized strength is given and compared with similar studies in the literature. Positioning and proper supporting in manufacturing are discussed; the parts are further investigated to assess their compliance with the intended nominal geometry

On sums of torus knots concordant to alternating knots

    Get PDF
We consider the question, asked by Friedl, Livingston and Zentner, of which sums of torus knots are concordant to alternating knots. After a brief analysis of the problem in its full generality, we focus on sums of two torus knots. We describe some effective obstructions based on Heegaard Floer homology.Comment: 19 pages, comments are welcome. Final version to appear in Bulletin of the London Mathematical Societ

Systemic adipokines, hepatokines and interleukin-6 in HCV-monoinfected and HCV/HIV coinfected patients treated with direct antiviral agents (DAAs)

    Get PDF
In this study, we demonstrated that that altered levels ofadipokines/hepatokines in HCV-infected patients, including HIV coinfected, can be restored by treatment with direct antiviral agents (DAAs), thus indicating the important metabolic changes occurring during the eradication of this viral infection
