We give a direct proof of the Harnack inequality for a class of Kolmogorov operators associated with a linear SDE and we find the explicit expression of the optimal Harnack constant. We discuss some possible implication of the Harnack inequality in finance: specifically we infer no-arbitrage bounds for the value of self-financing portfolios in terms of the initial wealth.Harnack inequality; no-arbitrage principle; self-financing portfolio; Kolmogorov equation; linear stochastic equation

    Adverse reactions of amiodarone

    Get PDF
Adverse drug reaction is defined by the World Health Organization as any response to a drug that is noxious and unintended and occurs at a dose normally used in man. Older people are at elevated risk of adverse drug reactions-because of changes in pharmacodynamics, concurrent use of multiple medications and the related drug interactions. However, adverse drug reactions are significantly underestimated in the elderly population that is also exposed to inappropriate drugs. Amiodarone is an antiarrhythmic drug used commonly for the treatment of atrial fibrillation and is increasingly prescribed in older people. While amiodarone is an efficient drug for rhythm control, it's a carrier of different adverse reactions, and pro and cons must be carefully evaluated before its use especially in older people

Risk of cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality in frail and pre-frail older adults : Results from a meta-analysis and exploratory meta-regression analysis

Frailty is common and associated with poorer outcomes in the elderly, but its role as potential cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factor requires clarification. We thus aimed to meta-analytically evaluate the evidence of frailty and pre-frailty as risk factors for CVD. Two reviewers selected all studies comparing data about CVD prevalence or incidence rates between frail/pre-frail vs. robust. The association between frailty status and CVD in cross-sectional studies was explored by calculating and pooling crude and adjusted odds ratios (ORs)+/- 95% confidence intervals (CIs); the data from longitudinal studies were pooled using the adjusted hazard ratios (HRs). Eighteen cohorts with a total of 31,343 participants were meta-analyzed. Using estimates from 10 cross-sectional cohorts, both frailty and pre-frailty were associated with higher odds of CVD than robust participants. Longitudinal data were obtained from 6 prospective cohort studies. After a median follow-up of 4.4 years, we identified an increased risk for faster onset of any type CVD in the frail (HR= 1.70 [95%CI, 1.18-2.45]; I-2 = 66%) and pre-frail (HR= 1.23 [95%CI, 1.07-1.36]; I-2 = 67%) vs. robust groups. Similar results were apparent for time to CVD mortality in the frail and pre-frail groups. In conclusion, frailty and pre-frailty constitute addressable and independent risk factors for CVD in older adults. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.Peer reviewe

This legal paper digs into the legal perspective of deepfake and makes recommendations to the EU institution to regulate the phenomenon, as deeply entrenched with technology-facilitated gender-based violence. First, it looks into the risk involving the creation of deepfakes for purposes such as social media manipulation, reputation damage, and sexual abuse. Second, it will describe the factual circumstances around the current European law and to what extent the AI technology generating deepfake content is regulated. Lastly, the paper will contain a comparative analysis of legislation between European law and US legislation, with the purpose of understanding how current regulations are moving, producing recommendations to the EU institutions, especially in the framework of the AI Act

Churg-Strauss syndrome associated with antiphospholipid antibodies in a patient with recurrent myocardial and cerebral ischemia

    Get PDF
We report on a case of Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) associated with the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies. The patient had a history of recurrent myocardial infarction and presented with acute ischemic cerebral disease. Eosinophilia with typical lung and skin lesions led us to diagnose the patient with CCS. We hypothesize that the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies significantly contributed to the ischemic events. We suggest that the search for antiphospholipid antibodies should be included in the laboratory work-up in CSS patients and patients affected by primary systemic vasculitides in general. Moreover, anticoagulant treatment appears to be warranted in all CSS patients and antiphospholipid antibodies to counteract this thrombosis-favoring association. © 2012 Paroli et al, publisher and licensee Dove Medical Press Ltd

There is a high level of attention to the entire value chain in today's market, from the smallest supplier, through the distributor to the end customer and after-sales service. The presence of capillary partners that increase the added value of the products (Value Added Reseller, VAR) can offer numerous advantages by allowing a personalized offer to customers worldwide, both from a commercial point of view and related services. More frequent and intense relationships between VARs and Lead Companies bring the Brand to a higher performance level. The needs of customers have increased over the years. They are increasingly attentive to the quality of products and related services and the guarantee of their performance. On the other hand, the presence of a complex and capillary distribution network involves a series of obvious organizational and managerial problems, including quality assurance as a garrison and compliance with the Lead Company's standards. Such complexity must be managed. In this paper, we describe how the distribution network of a modern multinational manufacturing company has been the subject of a significant improvement intervention by creating a dedicated Normative Technical Standard and developing a Service Certification for dealers using an independent third party's support

Reversible conduction block of peroneal nerve associated with SARS‑CoV‑2

The ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, which is dramatically spreading worldwide, is well known for its respiratory sequelae. Besides cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, encephalitis, hyposmia, the whole range of neurological complications due to SARSCoV-2 is still not well known. Herein, we report a new case of COVID-19, associated with mononeuropathy with reversible conduction block (CB). After SARS-CoV-2 infection, the patient developed acute weakness of left peroneal muscles. He underwent an endovenous immunoglobulin treatment, and symptoms improved. Two electroneurographic exam (before and after treatment), showed a reversible CB on left peroneal nerve. Dosage of serum antiganglioside antibodies showed anti-GM1 IgM positivity. The present case gives new informations about reversible CB neuropathy as an acute presentation of SARS-CoV-2. Besides, antiganglioside antibodies evaluation could be useful to understand etiology of the increasing number of neurological manifestations related to SARS-CoV-2

Il tempo che scorre. Il ponte romano di corso Vittorio Emanuele II

Between 1960 and 1961 a Roman bridge was undercovered in corso Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, providing a key element for the analysis of the development of the road network in the area. This zone, formerly part of the north-western suburbium, later became a proper urban district within the city walls. The study of the artefacts found in connection with the structure allowed to verify that the place was continuously attended throughout the Roman age
