We present a research on beliefs about educational technology built by preservice teachers throughout life story with case study. Data were collected through indepth interviews in two stages, first, before they take the preprofessional practices and second, immediately after them. The work on biographies has allowed identify a variety of beliefs. The conclusions show the importance of the biographical processes, especially in relation to the beliefs constructed in the early years of schooling are not relativized during initial training. These beliefs are still valid in the teacher education process and predominate over the knowledge acquired when teaching activities are carried out. In this paper is analyzed Emma's biography in relation to school and university.peerReviewe

Dermatomyositis as paraneoplastic syndrome of peritoneal and ovarian relapse after long-term complete remission in patient with metastatic bilateral breast cancer [Dermatomiozitis kao paraneoplastički sindrom peritonealnog i ovarijalnog relapsa nakon dugog perioda potpune remisije u bolesnice s metastatskim bilateralnim rakom dojke]

Dermatomyositis is a rare disease characterised by inflammatory muscle affection and characteristic cutaneous changes. When occuring in a patient with cancer, dermatomyositis may indicate recurrence or progression and poor outcome. Herein, the treatment of metastatic breast cancer, metastatic pattern, characteristics of long-term survivors, and link between dermatomyositis and breast cancer are discussed and the literature reviewed. We report a 57-year old female patient with metastatic bilateral breast cancer whose ovarian and peritoneal relapse after long-term remission was disclosed by occurence of paraneoplastic dermatomyositis. The patient previously had a 15-year long disease free-period after primary treatment for breast cancer before onset of pulmonary dissemination. Following antracycline-based chemotherapy, the complete remission lasting another 15 years was accomplished. Dermatomyositis had been resolved upon induction of second-line taxane-based chemotherapy. After completion of six cycles of gemcitabine and paclitaxel chemotherapy, check-up revealed further progression. The patient subsequently underwent six cycles of third-line CAP chemotherapy (cyclofosfamide, doxorubicine, cisplatin) but disease progressed and oral capecitabine chemotherapy was initiated. The patient received four cycles of capecitabine followed by further vast progression and finally expired following massive pulmonary embolism. Our case stresses the need of thorough staging and check-up when dermatomyositis arises in patients with breast cancer, regardless of previous stable long-term complete remission. Furthermore, we believe that treatment with curative intent in young patients with metastatic breast cancer, who have good performance statuses and no comorbidities is required, because it is more likely to produce long-term complete remission. However, following disease relapse a poor outcome can be expected

An 8-year-old male neutered Persian cat was presented with polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia and muscle weakness associated with a 7 month history of diabetes mellitus (DM). The cat had initially been treated with neutral protamine Hagedorn (NPH) insulin 2 U q12h, followed by porcine lente insulin 2 U q12h and, most recently, 3 U glargine insulin q12h, without improvement of clinical signs. The cat also suffered from concurrent symmetrical bilateral alopecia of thorax and forelimbs, abdominal distension and lethargy. Hyperadrenocorticism (HAC), specifically pituitary-dependent HAC, was suspected and confirmed through abdominal ultrasonography demonstrating bilateral adrenal enlargement, and a low-dose dexamethasone suppression test using 0.1 mg/kg dexamethasone intravenously. Trilostane treatment (initially 10 mg/cat PO q24h then increased to 10 mg/cat PO q12h) was started and insulin sensitivity gradually improved, ultimately leading to diabetic remission after an increased in trilostane dose to 13mg/cat PO q12h, 14 months after the DM diagnosis and 7 months after the initiation of trilostane therapy

Technological development has facilitated daily habits, business, the manufacture of large quantities of products, among other types of industrial activities; however, these advances have caused environmental deterioration that seriously threatens the development of society. The increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere affects the health of millions of people and is the main factor that has modified the climate on planet Earth. Faced with this situation, it is necessary to carry out actions that allow to quickly adapt to this change and mitigate its effects. The present study proposes the analysis of main components in the data of the pollutant measurements in the city of Bogota, Colombia with the purpose of obtaining a more compact representation of these data, to later apply grouping techniques and obtain factors that allow the emission of an alert for pre-contingency and contingency

Estas conclusões são retiradas quer da análise de conteúdo da entrevista quer do resultado da AFE dos questionários, havendo conformidade entre as conclusões da entrevista e dos questionários.study has an exploratory character and develops an environment of discovery of logic and implementation of management reward system through a case study. It aims to understand how the company structure and defines your reward system, the aim is also know which parts allotted to employees including the variable component, know what benefits and incentives are awarded, understand what kind of system and if it is effective. In order to achieve the objetives of this study was applied an interview to the responsible of managing system of rewards and questionnaire surveys were applied to workers from central offices. Survey results were analyzed using SPSS software and having been grouped into factors through an Exploratory Fator Analysis. According to the data obtained, it was possible to verify that the general guidelines of the reward system of the company under study are defined centrally and locally are adjusted to both internal and external context. We are dealing with a company that bases its reward system functions as a way to define its fixed and this component combines a variable component that depends on the performance of the worker, the social benefits to meet social needs and the possibility of buying shares. The reward system in this company meets the conditions to be considered effective, the intrinsic factors are an integral part of this system, which can be characterized as a traditional pay system that integrates component performance and values the variable part. These findings are taken from both the content analysis of the interview and of the outcome of the questionnaires AFE, given the differences between the findings of interviews and questionnaires

Biomass harvesting is one of the most expensive steps of the whole microalgal production pipeline. Therefore, the present work aimed to understand the effect of salinity on the growth performance, biochemical composition and sedimentation velocity of Tetraselmis sp. CTP4, in order to establish an effective low-cost pilot-scale harvesting system for this strain. At lab scale, similar growth performance was obtained in cultures grown at salinities of 5, 10 and 20 g L-1 NaCl. In addition, identical settling velocities (2.4-3.6 cm h-1) were observed on all salinities under study, regardless of the growth stage. However, higher salinities (20 g L-1) promoted a significant increase in lipid contents in this strain compared to when this microalga was cultivated at 5 or 10 g L-1 NaCl. At pilot-scale, cultures were cultivated semi-continuously in 2.5-m3 tubular photobioreactors, fed every four days, and stored in a 1-m3 harvesting tank. Upon a 24-hour settling step, natural sedimentation of the microalgal cells resulted in the removal of 93% of the culture medium in the form of a clear liquid containing only vestigial amounts of biomass (0.07 ± 0.02 g L-1 dry weight; DW). The remaining culture was recovered as a highly concentrated culture (19.53 ± 4.83 g L-1 DW) and wet microalgal paste (272.7 ± 18.5 g L-1 DW). Overall, this method provided an effective recovery of 97% of the total biomass, decreasing significantly the harvesting costs.Agência financiadora Portuguese national budget P2020 Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) CMAR/Multi/04326/2013 ALGARED+ 1398 EP - INTERREG V-A Espana Portugal project ALGACO2 project 023310 COST Action 1408 - European Network for Bio-products FCT SFRH/BD/105541/2014info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Synthesis, Secondary Structure, and Anion Binding of Acyclic Carbohydrate-Derived Oligo(amide-triazole)s

    Get PDF
A family of linear, carbohydrate-derived oligo(amide-triazole)s has been designed and synthesized. These molecules possess a regular distribution of triazole rings (from one to four) linking the carbohydrate units to give dimer to pentamer derivatives. Their binding to halide anions was qualitatively analyzed by means of NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. All the compounds were able to bind chloride anions, with a stoichiometry that depended on the chain length. The dimer and trimer gave 2:1 host/chloride ratio, while the tetramer and pentamer gave 1:1 complexes. The secondary structure of the oligo(amide-triazole)s was studied using NMR spectroscopy and circular dichroism. These studies showed that the larger host molecules (tetramer and pentamer) adopted a stabilized U-turn and were able to bind just one chloride anion. Only the pentamer displayed a helical conformation, which was slightly distorted in the presence of chloride salts. Interestingly, chloride binding involves not only the triazole-CH but also H atoms from the carbohydrate moieties. These compounds could be applied for chloride sensing by ESI-MS.Fil: Fidalgo, Daniela Marina. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas.
