    Model Appreciative Learning Untuk Perancangan Reward Pada Game Pendidikan

    Reward adalah elemen dari game yang sangat penting untuk membentuk pengalaman positif dan motivasi bagi pemain. Reward dalam suatu game pendidikan memegang peranan penting dalam menjaga motivasi pembelajar dan memberikan evaluasi dari apa yang dikerjakan. Namun perancangan reward seringkali masih tidak terkonsep dengan baik, acak dan bersifat subjektif. Penelitian ini menggunakan model Appreciative Learning, yang terdiri dari tahapan Discovery, Dream, Design dan Destiny, untuk melakukan perancangan reward. Model Appreciative Learning merupakan konsep pembelajaran yang didasarkan pada konsep Appreciative Inquiry, berfokus pada hal-hal positif seperti puncak pencapaian, peluang, eksplorasi potensi dan optimisme masa depan, sehingga model ini cocok digunakan dalam perancangan reward. Dengan menggunakan model Appreciative Learning, reward dalam game dapat dirancang dengan lebih terstruktur, mempunyai konsep yang jelas dan objektif. Appreciative Learning akan digunakan untuk menentukan dan mengelompokkan jenis reward yang akan diberikan. Model yang terbentuk memiliki aktivitas reward yang sesuai dengan tahapan-tahapan dalam Appreciative Learning dan dapat memberikan kerangka dalam perancangan reward pada game pendidikan.     Germanene: the germanium analogue of graphene

    Recently, several research groups have reported the growth of germanene, a new member of the graphene family. Germanene is in many aspects very similar to graphene, but in contrast to the planar graphene lattice, the germanene honeycomb lattice is buckled and composed of two vertically displaced sub-lattices. Density functional theory calculations have revealed that free-standing germanene is a 2D Dirac fermion system, i.e. the electrons behave as massless relativistic particles that are described by the Dirac equation, which is the relativistic variant of the Schrödinger equation. Germanene is a very appealing 2D material. The spin-orbit gap in germanene (~24 meV) is much larger than in graphene (<0.05 meV), which makes germanene the ideal candidate to exhibit the quantum spin Hall effect at experimentally accessible temperatures. Additionally, the germanene lattice offers the possibility to open a band gap via for instance an externally applied electrical field, adsorption of foreign atoms or coupling with a substrate. This opening of the band gap paves the way to the realization of germanene based field-effect devices. In this topical review we will (1) address the various methods to synthesize germanene (2) provide a brief overview of the key results that have been obtained by density functional theory calculations and (3) discuss the potential of germanene for future applications as well for fundamentally oriented studies

    Topic tracking using chronological term ranking

    Topic tracking (TT) is an important component of topic detection and tracking (TDT) applications. TT algorithms aim to determine all subsequent stories of a certain topic based on a small number of initial sample stories. We propose an alternative similarity measure based on chronological term ranking (CTR) concept to quantify the relatedness among news articles for topic tracking. The CTR approach is based on the fact that in general important issues are presented at the beginning of news articles. By following this observation we modify the traditional Okapi BM25 similarity measure using the CTR concept. Using a large standard test collection we show that our method provides a statistically significantly improvement with respect to the Okapi BM25 measure. The highly successful performance indicates that the approach can be used in real applications. © 2013 Springer-Verlag London

    Coulomb drag in anisotropic systems: a theoretical study on a double-layer phosphorene

    We theoretically study the Coulomb drag resistivity in a double-layer electron system with highly anisotropic parabolic band structure using Boltzmann transport theory. As an example, we consider a double-layer phosphorene on which we apply our formalism. This approach, in principle, can be tuned for other double-layered systems with paraboloidal band structures. Our calculations show the rotation of one layer with respect to another layer can be considered a way of controlling the drag resistivity in such systems. As a result of rotation, the off-diagonal elements of drag resistivity tensor have non-zero values at any temperature. In addition, we show that the anisotropic drag resistivity is very sensitive to the direction of momentum transfer between two layers due to highly anisotropic inter-layer electron-electron interaction and also the plasmon modes. In particular, the drag anisotropy ratio, \r{ho}yy/\r{ho}xx, can reach up to ~ 3 by changing the temperature. Furthermore,our calculations suggest that including the local field correction in dielectric function changes the results significantly. Finally, We examine the dependence of drag resistivity and its anisotropy ratio on various parameters like inter-layer separation, electron density, short-range interaction and insulating substrate/spacer.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figure

    Impact of inhaled corticosteroids on growth in children with asthma: systematic review and meta-analysis

    Background: Long-term inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) may reduce growth velocity and final height of children with asthma. We aimed to evaluate the association between ICS use of >12 months and growth. Methods: We initially searched MEDLINE and EMBASE in July 2013, followed by a PubMed search updated to December 2014. We selected RCTs and controlled observational studies of ICS use in patients with asthma. We conducted random effects meta-analysis of mean differences in growth velocity (cm/year) or final height (cm) between groups. Heterogeneity was assessed using the I2 statistic. Results: We found 23 relevant studies (twenty RCTs and three observational studies) after screening 1882 hits. Meta-analysis of 16 RCTs showed that ICS use significantly reduced growth velocity at one year follow-up (mean difference -0.48 cm/year (95% CI -0.66 to -0.29)). There was evidence of a dose-response effect in three RCTs. Final adult height showed a mean reduction of -1.20 cm (95% CI -1.90 cm to -0.50 cm) with budesonide versus placebo in a high quality RCT. Meta-analysis of two lower quality observational studies revealed uncertainty in the association between ICS use and final adult height, pooled mean difference -0.85 cm (95% CI -3.35 to 1.65). Conclusion: Use of ICS for >12 months in children with asthma has a limited impact on annual growth velocity. In ICS users, there is a slight reduction of about a centimeter in final adult height, which when interpreted in the context of average adult height in England (175 cm for men and 161 cm for women), represents a 0.7% reduction compared to non-ICS users

    Overexpression of ZEB2 in Peritumoral Liver Tissue Correlates with Favorable Survival after Curative Resection of Hepatocellular Carcinoma

    BACKGROUND: ZEB2 has been suggested to mediate EMT and disease aggressiveness in several types of human cancers. However, the expression patterns of ZEB2 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its effect on prognosis of HCC patients treated with hepatectomy are unclear. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: In this study, the methods of tissue microarray and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were utilized to investigate ZEB2 expression in HCC and peritumoral liver tissue (PLT). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC), spearman's rank correlation, Kaplan-Meier plots and Cox proportional hazards regression model were used to analyze the data. Up-regulated expression of cytoplasmic/nuclear ZEB2 protein was observed in the majority of PLTs, when compared to HCCs. Further analysis showed that overexpression of cytoplasmic ZEB2 in HCCs was inversely correlated with AFP level, tumor size and differentiation (P<0.05). Also, overexpression of cytoplasmic ZEB2 in PLTs correlated with lower AFP level (P<0.05). In univariate survival analysis, a significant association between overexpression of cytoplasmic ZEB2 by HCCs/PLTs and longer patients' survival was found (P<0.05). Importantly, cytoplasmic ZEB2 expression in PLTs was evaluated as an independent prognostic factor in multivariate analysis (P<0.05). Consequently, a new clinicopathologic prognostic model with cytoplasmic ZEB2 expression (including HCCs and PLTs) was constructed. The model could significantly stratify risk (low, intermediate and high) for overall survival (P = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Our findings provide a basis for the concept that cytoplasmic ZEB2 expressed by PLTs can predict the postoperative survival of patients with HCC. The combined cytoplasmic ZEB2 prognostic model may become a useful tool for identifying patients with different clinical outcomes

    A systematic review of the effects of residency training on patient outcomes

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Residents are vital to the clinical workforce of today and tomorrow. Although in training to become specialists, they also provide much of the daily patient care. Residency training aims to prepare residents to provide a high quality of care. It is essential to assess the patient outcome aspects of residency training, to evaluate the effect or impact of global investments made in training programs. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review to evaluate the effects of relevant aspects of residency training on patient outcomes.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The literature was searched from December 2004 to February 2011 using MEDLINE, Cochrane, Embase and the Education Resources Information Center databases with terms related to residency training and (post) graduate medical education and patient outcomes, including mortality, morbidity, complications, length of stay and patient satisfaction. Included studies evaluated the impact of residency training on patient outcomes.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Ninety-seven articles were included from 182 full-text articles of the initial 2,001 hits. All studies were of average or good quality and the majority had an observational study design.Ninety-six studies provided insight into the effect of 'the level of experience of residents' on patient outcomes during residency training. Within these studies, the start of the academic year was not without risk (five out of 19 studies), but individual progression of residents (seven studies) as well as progression through residency training (nine out of 10 studies) had a positive effect on patient outcomes. Compared with faculty, residents' care resulted mostly in similar patient outcomes when dedicated supervision and additional operation time were arranged for (34 out of 43 studies). After new, modified or improved training programs, patient outcomes remained unchanged or improved (16 out of 17 studies). Only one study focused on physicians' prior training site when assessing the quality of patient care. In this study, training programs were ranked by complication rates of their graduates, thus linking patient outcomes back to where physicians were trained.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The majority of studies included in this systematic review drew attention to the fact that patient care appears safe and of equal quality when delivered by residents. A minority of results pointed to some negative patient outcomes from the involvement of residents. Adequate supervision, room for extra operation time, and evaluation of and attention to the individual competence of residents throughout residency training could positively serve patient outcomes. Limited evidence is available on the effect of residency training on later practice. Both qualitative and quantitative research designs are needed to clarify which aspects of residency training best prepare doctors to deliver high quality care.</p

    Construction of a collagen-based, split-thickness cornea substitute

    Tissue-engineered corneas may become a promising alternative to allografts in the treatment of serious cornea defects because of the tunable characteristics of the biomaterials, biomimetic designs, and incorporation of patient's own cells. In this study, collagen foam was coated with a fibrous mat to mimic the stromal layer and the Bowman's layer. The stromal layer substitute was made of N-ethyl-N-(3-dimethyl aminopropyl)carbodiimide/N-hydroxysuccinimide-cross-linked collagen-chondroitin sulfate foam and seeded with primary human corneal keratocytes (HK). Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells served as the epithelial layer after seeding on a dehydrothermally cross-linked collagen type I fibrous mat deposited directly on top of the foams by electrospinning. The physical characterization and the in vitro studies showed that the designed cornea replacement was suitable for cell attachment and growth, and co-culture of the two cell types induced more extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition than the single cell-seeded constructs. The fiber layer was shown to be successful in separating the HK and RPE cells, and still allowed them to maintain cell-cell communication as the increase in ECM deposition and the maintenance of the high transparency (similar to 80%) suggested. This split-thickness corneal substitute was also shown to be readily suturable without any major tears at the end of a short co-culture of 30days
