Macromolecules and Monologues: How Science and Arts Classes Motivate Students for College

This study investigates how science and performing arts classes motivate high school students, particularly students of color, to pursue higher education. The changes in funding and perceived importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) vs. Visual Performing Arts (VPA) classes and programs, as well as the underrepresentation of students of color in these areas, make this topic important. Existing literature independently examines the positive effects of science and arts classes on student success but fails to compare the benefits of these programs and to include the student voice. Through the use of participant observation, questionnaires, and interviews, this study aims to compare if and how a physiology and an acting class at Charlotte High School motivate students to pursue college. Findings suggest that science and arts courses influence students’ motivation differently. Questionnaire findings show that acting students were more likely to agree that their class is fun, helpful, and motivating than their peers in the physiology class. Interview findings matched these results. For example, questionnaire data reveals that students enrolled in the acting class are more motivated to pursue a college degree than those in the physiology class. This may be due to more engaging pedagogy and activities that build confidence in the class. Study implications highlight the need for continued funding of arts education to nurture unmotivated high school students’ college aspirations

El proyecto busca implementar materiales de bajo impacto, que logren reducir considerablemente el consumo energético, contribuyendo en alguna medida al cambio climático por el que actualmente pasa la humanidad. The mandibulosphenoidal joint in penguins, albatrosses, and petrels: comparative anatomy and functional implications

We discuss the potential use of the mandibulosphenoidal joint structures to interpret the diet and trophic habits of penguins, albatrosses, and petrels. For this purpose, several species of these phylogenetically related groups, whose diet and feeding strategies are already known, were selected. After comparisons, we conclude that: 1 ? the efficiency of the quadrate-articular primary articulation is decisive for the development of the secondary mandibulosphenoidal joint, 2 ? the morphology of the mandibulosphenoidal joint is closely related to the trophic habits of specialist birds, and 3 ? the use of the mandibulosphenoidal joint structures to infer dietary preferences has a limited use.Fil: Acosta Hospitaleche, Carolina Ileana Alicia. El uso de múltiples representaciones para la enseñanza de polinomios : problemáticas emergentes a partir de la construcción de sentidos.

En el presente informe se describen las prácticas realizadas en una escuela secundaria de la ciudad de Córdoba. Dichas prácticas se llevaron a cabo en dos divisiones de tercer año. Se abordó el estudio de Expresiones Polinómicas y sus operaciones, conectando aspectos geométricos a través de un “trabajo con fichas”. Además, en este informe, se realiza un análisis poniendo énfasis en las problemáticas que emergieron al hacer uso de múltiples representaciones para la enseñanza de polinomio

Ontogenetic variations of the head of Aptenodytes forsteri (Aves, Sphenisciformes): muscular and skull morphology

The emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) is the largest extant penguin among living species breeding in winter, at Antarctic high latitudes. Despite several studies made on this species, musculature and skeletal anatomy are barely known, especially in non-adult specimens. To address this shortfall, dissections and comparative descriptions were made on crania and mandibles of individuals of different ontogenetic stages: chicks, juveniles, and adults. The results presented here show significant differences in musculature between the age groups, and the proportions between bill and cranium also change along postnatal ontogeny.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

Las concepciones de educación inclusiva desde las narrativas de supervisores directivos y docentes del sistema de educación especial en la provincia del Chubut

A partir del año 1980, en el Valle Inferior del Río Chubut (VIRCH) que agrupa las localidades de Trelew, Rawson, Gaiman, Dolavon y 28 de Julio ubicadas en el noreste provincial se desarrollaron una serie de procesos de reforma educativa que introducirán, sucesivamente, nuevas perspectivas en el sistema educación especial. Abordajes que, con sentidos contrapuestos, irán desde los que están basados en la concepción del déficit como anomalía individual hasta aquellos con una mirada social e inclusiva. El objeto de esta investigación es comprender la tensión entre integración e inclusión en los argumentos y narrativas de un conjunto de agentes del sistema de educación especial. A este fin, se realizará el trabajo de campo en escuelas especiales del VIRCH donde se indagarán las concepciones de supervisores, directivos y docentes que pertenecen a los Centros de Servicios Alternativos y Complementarios y las Escuelas Sensoriales. Se tomarán también fuentes documentales como normativas y resoluciones nacionales e internacionales así como antecedentes de investigaciones realizadas en torno a la temática elegida en el territorio en que se desarrolla el estudio.
