    Effect of Pt impurities on the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of hcp Co: a first-principles study

    In terms of the fully relativistic screened Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method we investigate the variation in the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy (MAE) of hexagonal close-packed cobalt with the addition of platinum impurities. In particular, we perform calculations on a bulk cobalt system in which one of the atomic layers contains a fractional, substitutional platinum impurity. Our calculations show that at small concentrations of platinum the MAE is reduced, while at larger concentrations the MAE is enhanced. This change of the MAE can be attributed to an interplay between on-site Pt MAE contributions and induced MAE contributions on the Co sites. The latter ones are subject to pronounced, long-ranged Friedel-oscillations that can lead to significant size effects in the experimental determination of the MAE of nano-sized samples.Comment: 16 page

    We study a canonical basis for spaces of weakly holomorphic modular forms of weights 12, 16, 18, 20, 22, and 26 on the full modular group. We prove a relation between the Fourier coefficients of modular forms in this canonical basis and a generalized Ramanujan tau-function, and use this to prove that these Fourier coefficients are often highly divisible by 2.Comment: Corrected typos.     Effects of composition and chemical disorder on the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of Fe_{x}Pt_{1-x} alloys

    We perform first principles calculations of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy (MAE) of the L1_{0}-like Fe_{x}Pt_{1-x} samples studied experimentally by Barmak and co-workers in [J. Appl. Phys. 98 (2005) 033904]. The variation of composition and long-range chemical order in the samples was studied in terms of the coherent potential approximation. In accordance with experimental observations, we find that, in the presence of long-range chemical disorder, Fe-rich samples exhibit a larger MAE than stoichiometric FePt. By considering the site- and species-resolved contributions to the MAE, we infer that the MAE is primarily a function of the degree of completeness of the nominal Fe layers in the L1_{0} FePt structure.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

The approach of Freudian traditional psychodynamic put narcissism as a failure of running progress passing through lower level in psychosexual development. The research is aimed to know general description of student narcissism in adolescence. The approach that was used in this research is quantitative approach where the research method is descriptive method. The result of research showed that generally narcissism level of students is categorized average, where it was obtained by data collection tool exactly using questionnaire narcissism behavior that were scattered randomly to students grade VIII SMP Negeri 29 Bandung year 2015/2016. Based on the research result, some student was found in high category, it means that should to hand over the case to the expert who can help more accurate. Meanwhile, some students who are in average and low category need some guidance service for preventing narcissism behavior that psychologically disrupt them

    Influence of summer and winter climate variability on nitrogen wet deposition in Norway

    Dominating wind patterns around Norway may change due to climate warming. This could affect transport of polluted air masses and precipitation. Here, we study relations between reactive nitrogen wet deposition and air mass transport during summer and winter expressed in the form of climate indices, at seven sites in Southern Norway for the period 1980–2005. Atmospheric nitrate concentrations decreased with 0 to 50% in the period, particularly at sites with little precipitation, and mostly during 1990–2005. For comparison, reported reductions in emissions of oxidised nitrogen in Europe in 1989–2003 were 23%. Climate indices explained up to 36% of the variation in winter nitrate deposition at the western and northern sites – and also explained 60% of the variation in winter precipitation (R=0.77). This suggests that the variation in nitrate wet deposition is closely related to variation in precipitation, and that the climate indices seem to also partly control the variation in atmospheric nitrate concentrations (R=−0.45 at coastal sites). At the coastal sites, local air temperature was highly correlated (R=0.84) with winter nitrate deposition, suggesting that warm, humid winter weather results in increased wet nitrate deposition. For ammonia the pattern was similar, but this compound is more influenced by local sources. Expected severe increase in precipitation in western and northern regions as a consequence of climate change suggest that nitrogen deposition in these areas will increase under global warming if emissions are held constant

    Magnetic anisotropy of FePt: effect of lattice distortion and chemical disorder

    We perform first principles calculations of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy in the five L10 FePt samples studied experimentally by Ding et al. [J. App. Phys. 97, 10H303 (2005)]. The effect of temperature-induced spin fluctuations is estimated by scaling the MAE down according to previous Langevin dynamics simulations. Including chemical disorder as given in experiment, the experimental correlation between MAE and lattice mismatch is qualitatively well reproduced. Moreover we determine the chemical order parameters that reproduce exactly the experimental MAE of each sample. We conclude that the MAE is determined by the chemical disorder rather than by lattice distortion.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

    Assessing the impact of different penalty factors of the Bayesian reconstruction algorithm Q.Clear on in vivo low count kinetic analysis of [11C]PHNO brain PET-MR studies

    Introduction: Q.Clear is a Bayesian penalised likelihood (BPL) reconstruction algorithm available on General Electric (GE) Positron Emission Tomography (PET)-Computed Tomography (CT) and PET-Magnetic Resonance (MR) scanners. This algorithm is regulated by a β value which acts as a noise penalisation factor and yields improvements in signal to noise ratio (SNR) in clinical scans, and in contrast recovery and spatial resolution in phantom studies. However, its performance in human brain imaging studies remains to be evaluated in depth. This pilot study aims to investigate the impact of Q.Clear reconstruction methods using different β value versus ordered subset expectation maximization (OSEM) on brain kinetic modelling analysis of low count brain images acquired in the PET-MR. Methods: Six [11C]PHNO PET-MR brain datasets were reconstructed with Q.Clear with β100–1000 (in increments of 100) and OSEM. The binding potential relative to non-displaceable volume (BPND) were obtained for the Substantia Nigra (SN), Striatum (St), Globus Pallidus (GP), Thalamus (Th), Caudate (Cd) and Putamen (Pt), using the MIAKAT™ software. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), repeatability coefficients (RC), coefficients of variation (CV) and bias from Bland–Altman plots were reported. Statistical analysis was conducted using a 2-way ANOVA model with correction for multiple comparisons. Results: When comparing a standard OSEM reconstruction of 6 iterations/16 subsets and 5 mm filter with Q.Clear with different β values under low counts, the bias and RC were lower for Q.Clear with β100 for the SN (RC = 2.17), Th (RC = 0.08) and GP (RC = 0.22) and with β200 for the St (RC = 0.14), Cd (RC = 0.18)and Pt (RC = 0.10). The p-values in the 2-way ANOVA model corroborate these findings. ICC values obtained for Th, St, GP, Pt and Cd demonstrate good reliability (0.87, 0.99, 0.96, 0.99 and 0.96, respectively). For the SN, ICC values demonstrate poor reliability (0.43). Conclusion: BPND results obtained from quantitative low count brain PET studies using [11C]PHNO and reconstructed with Q.Clear with β < 400, which is the value used for clinical [18F]FDG whole-body studies, demonstrate the lowest bias versus the typical iterative reconstruction method OSEM

    Nuclear structure of Ac-231

    The low-energy structure of 231Ac has been investigated by means of gamma ray spectroscopy following the beta-decay of 231Ra. Multipolarities of 28 transitions have been established by measuring conversion electrons with a mini-orange electron spectrometer. The decay scheme of 231Ra --> 231Ac has been constructed for the first time. The Advanced Time Delayed beta-gamma-gamma(t) method has been used to measure the half-lives of five levels. The moderately fast B(E1) transition rates derived suggest that the octupole effects, albeit weak, are still present in this exotic nucleus
