The Author(s).BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and treatment delays increase the period of infectiousness, making TB control difficult and increasing the fatality rates. This study aimed to determine the evolution of health care service delay (time between the patient's first contact with the health service and the diagnosis/start of treatment) and patient delay (time between onset symptoms date and the date of first contact with health services) for Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB) in Portugal between 2008 and 2017 across different regions, age groups and gender. METHODS: An exploratory analysis was performed, trends of both delays were studied, and 36 months forecasts were generated. We used the permutation test to test differences between groups and the Seasonal and Trend decomposition using Loess (STL) method and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) models for forecasting for both Health and Patient delays. We used data from notified PTB cases in mainland Portugal between 2008 and 2017, provided by the national surveillance system. RESULTS: Health delays remained relatively constant while patient delays increased. Females had significantly higher health delays in some regions. Individuals older than 64 had higher health delays than younger individuals, while patient delay for working-age individuals between 15 and 64 years old, presents higher patient delay. CONCLUSIONS: Forecasts presage that the upward trend of the delays is unlikely to fall in the coming years. It is important to understand the evolution of the delays and predict how these will evolve. Our understanding of the delays behaviours will contribute to better health policies and resources allocation.publishersversionpublishe

This study describes the synthesis of fourteen thiazinanones from a multicomponent reaction of 2-morpholinoehtylamine (as primary amine), arenealdehydes (as carbonyl compound) and the mercaptopropionic acid using both conventional (thermal heating) and ultrasound methodologies. Through thermal heating methodology, the thiazinanones were obtained in 49 to 97% yields for 16 hours and through sonochemistry methodology, the reaction time was reduced for 25 minutes with yields 41 to 88%. The full identification and characterization of unpublished heterocycles were achieved by proton (1H) and carbon 13 (13C) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and infrared. Some of them were also characterized by elemental analysis27611091115CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICO - CNPQCOORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DE PESSOAL DE NÍVEL SUPERIOR - CAPESFUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO - FAPESPFUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DO RIO GRANDE DO SUL - FAPERGS307330/2012-5Sem informação2013/18203-511/2068-

The effects of different concentrations of the α2-Adrenoceptor Agonist Medetomidine on basal excitatory synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity in hippocampal slices of adult mice

α2-Adrenoceptor agonists are used frequently in human and veterinary anesthesia as sedative/analgesic drugs. However, they can impair cognition. Little is known about the concentration-dependent effects of α2-adrenoceptor agonists on synaptic plasticity, the neurophysiological basis of learning and memory. Therefore, we investigated the effects of different concentrations of medetomidine, an α2-adrenoceptor agonist, on basal excitatory synaptic transmission and on 2 forms of synaptic plasticity: paired-pulse facilitation (PPF) and long-term potentiation (LTP).Funding: This work was supported by FCT (Lisbon, Portugal) and cofunded by COMPETE: 01-0124-FEDER-009497 (Lisbon, Portugal), through the project grants PTDC/CVT/099022/2008 and PTDC/SAU-NSC/122254/2010 and through a personal PhD grant (SFRH /BD/48883/2008) to Patrícia do Céu Oliveira Ribeiro and by QREN (09-68-ESR-FP-010).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Bond and flexural behaviour of a NSM CFRP strengthening system under fatigue loading

    Get PDF
The present paper aims to contribute to the knowledge of the long-term performance and durability of concrete structures strengthened with the Near-Surface Mounted (NSM) technique. The durability of strengthening systems is affected by environmental conditions, such as freeze-thaw and temperature cycling, exposure to aggressive chemical agents and ultraviolet light. Additionally, the long-term performance of the NSM system could be compromised by fatigue loading, which may result in deterioration and weakening of individual components (steel, FRP, concrete), or loss of bond performance and composite action. Thus, in order to assess the bond and flexural behavior of NSM CFRP strengthening system under fatigue loading, an experimental program was carried out, composing of direct pullout tests and loading of slab specimens. The main investigated parameters were the stress level (or fatigue stress) and the amplitude of cycle. This paper describes the conducted tests and presents and analysis the obtained results.

Destes, 460 (98,5%) do tipo A: 279 (32%) do subtipo A(H1)pdm09 e 181 (21%) do subtipo AH3.
