    Estructura factorial del compañero de trabajo ideal

    La satisfacción laboral es uno de los componentes de importancia en la elaboración de estrategias para la gestión del capital humano debido al gran impacto que tiene en el crecimiento y desarrollo de las organizaciones. Una de las variables de mayor influencia y poco estudiadas de esta satisfacción, es la satisfacción con los compañeros de trabajo. Por este motivo, el presente estudio busca identificar la estructura factorial del compañero de trabajo ideal, es decir, el conjunto de características esperadas en el colaborador perfecto. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 60 participantes para la fase cualitativa y 151 participantes para la fase cuantitativa, con un rango de edad entre los 22 y 36 años. El análisis factorial exploratorio encontró cuatro factores: "buenas relaciones personales", “correcto, organizado y seguro de sí mismo”, “trabaja en equipo, empático y flexible ”y “productivo y que sabe enseñar”. No se encontraron diferencias significativas que relacionaran estos factores con alguna variable demográfica de los participantes (género, edad, nivel socio-económico, universidad, tipo de colegio, años de experiencia laboral y tiempo de permanencia en la empresa actual).Estudios previos encontraron que estos factores se relacionan con diversos aspectos de la gestión del comportamiento humano, tales como: productividad, retención de líderes talentosos, compromiso, absentismo, motivación, intención de renuncia y desempeño. Estos resultados contribuyen a la mejora de la satisfacción laboral y la productividad considerando el contexto peruano.The Job satisfaction is one of the most important components in the companies’ environment, due to its impact in the growth and development of the organization. Likewise, one of the most influential and poorly researched variable of this satisfaction is the Coworker satisfaction. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine the factorial structure of the ideal coworker based on the related perceptions of a Peruvian workforce to further investigate the elements of coworker satisfaction within the human resources field. Participants for this study were 60 who were interviewed during a qualitative phase, and 151 participants interviewed during a quantitative phase, between the age range of 22 to 36 years of age. After an exploratory factor analysis, results indicated the presence of four factors: “good personal relationships”, “assertive, organized and self-confident”, “team player, empathetic and flexible” and “productive and good teacher”. There were no statistical significant differences found between factors and demographic characteristics (gender, age, socio-economic status, education, years of work experience, time working in the current company). Furthermore, previous evidence suggests that these factors are related to different aspects of the human resources management, such as: productivity, retention of talented leaders, employee engagement, absenteeism, turnover intention and employee performance. These results contribute to the improvement of the work satisfaction and productivity in a Peruvian work setting.Tesi

    C–H arylation of heterocyclic N oxides through in-situ diazotisation of anilines without added promoters : a green and selective coupling process

    A green and selective method for the generation of bi-aryl compounds through C—H arylation of heterocyclic N-oxides is presented in which the addition of ascorbic acid as a promoter is not required for either the generation of an aryldiazonium species or the subsequent arylation. Reaction conditions were optimized through Multivariate Data Analysis, including Orthogonal Projections to Latent Structures (OPLS) and Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies resulting in further sustainability improvements, and were then applied to a range of substrates to establish the scope and limitations of the process. The reaction was studied using in-situ infra-red spectroscopy and a mechanism is presented that accounts for the available data from this and previous studies. The reaction was also per-formed on a multigram scale, with calorimetry studies to support further scale-up of this promoter-free transformation

    Guiding cities under increased droughts: The limits to sustainable urban futures

    Climate change is likely to increase droughts. The vulnerability of cities to droughts is increasing worldwide. Policy responses from cities to droughts lack consideration of long-term climatic and socio-economic scenarios, and focus on short-term emergency actions that disregard sustainability in the connected regional and river basin systems. We aim to explore the dynamics of the water-energy-land nexus in urban systems suffering increased climate change-related droughts, and their implications for sustainability. We complement a case study with a literature review providing cross-regional insights, and detail pervasive knowledge, policy and ambition gaps in the interaction between cities and droughts. We show that water availability with low emissions, without compromising ecosystems and with low costs to society, poses a local-scale limit to sustainable urban growth, a new concept delineating the limits to growth in cities. We conclude that urban and river basin planners need to institutionalize transparency and cross-sectoral integration in multi-sector partnerships, to consider long-term land use planning together with water and energy, and to apply integrated climate services to cities.     Dedicated versus mainstreaming approaches in local climate plans in Europe

    Cities are gaining prominence committing to respond to the threat of climate change, e.g., by developing local climate plans or strategies. However, little is known regarding the approaches and processes of plan development and implementation, or the success and effectiveness of proposed measures. Mainstreaming is regarded as one approach associated with (implementation) success, but the extent of integration of local climate policies and plans in ongoing sectoral and/or development planning is unclear. This paper analyses 885 cities across the 28 European countries to create a first reference baseline on the degree of climate mainstreaming in local climate plans. This will help to compare the benefits of mainstreaming versus dedicated climate plans, looking at policy effectiveness and ultimately delivery of much needed climate change efforts at the city level. All core cities of the European Urban Audit sample were analyzed, and their local climate plans classified as dedicated or mainstreamed in other local policy initiatives. It was found that the degree of mainstreaming is low for mitigation (9% of reviewed cities; 12% of the identified plans) and somewhat higher for adaptation (10% of cities; 29% of plans). In particular horizontal mainstreaming is a major effort for local authorities; an effort that does not necessarily pay off in terms of success of action implementation. This study concludes that climate change issues in local municipalities are best tackled by either, developing a dedicated local climate plan in parallel to a mainstreamed plan or by subsequently developing first the dedicated and later a mainstreaming plan (joint or subsequent “dual track approach”). Cities that currently provide dedicated local climate plans (66% of cities for mitigation; 26% of cities for adaptation) may follow-up with a mainstreaming approach. This promises effective implementation of tangible climate actions as well as subsequent diffusion of climate issues into other local sector policies. The development of only broad sustainability or resilience strategies is seen as critical.We thank the many council representatives that supported the datacollection.     Multimorbidity patterns in hospitalized older patients: Associations among chronic diseases and geriatric syndromes

    Background/Objectives The clinical status of older individuals with multimorbidity can be further complicated by concomitant geriatric syndromes. This study explores multimorbidity patterns, encompassing both chronic diseases and geriatric syndromes, in geriatric patients attended in an acute hospital setting. Design Retrospective observational study. Setting Unit of Social and Clinical Assessment (UVSS), Miguel Servet University Hospital (HUMS), Zaragoza (Spain). Year, 2011. Participants A total of 924 hospitalized patients aged 65 years or older. Measurements Data on patients'' clinical, functional, cognitive and social statuses were gathered through comprehensive geriatric assessments. To identify diseases and/or geriatric syndromes that cluster into patterns, an exploratory factor analysis was applied, stratifying by sex. The factors can be interpreted as multimorbidity patterns, i.e., diseases non-randomly associated with each other within the study population. The resulting patterns were clinically assessed by several physicians. Results The mean age of the study population was 82.1 years (SD 7.2). Multimorbidity burden was lower in men under 80 years, but increased in those over 80. Immobility, urinary incontinence, hypertension, falls, dementia, cognitive decline, diabetes and arrhythmia were among the 10 most frequent health problems in both sexes, with prevalence rates above 20%. Four multimorbidity patterns were identified that were present in both sexes: Cardiovascular, Induced Dependency, Falls and Osteoarticular. The number of conditions comprising these patterns was similar in men and women. Conclusion The existence of specific multimorbidity patterns in geriatric patients, such as the Induced Dependency and Falls patterns, may facilitate the early detection of vulnerability to stressors, thus helping to avoid negative health outcomes such as functional disability

    European patterns of local adaptation planning—a regional analysis

    \ua9 The Author(s) 2024.While European regions face a range of different climate hazards, little is known about how these differences affect local climate adaptation planning. We present an analytical framework for evaluating local climate adaptation plans (LCAPs) and apply it to 327 cities in 28 countries across different European regions. To do this, we use statistical methods to identify regional clusters based on overall plan quality, impacts, vulnerable population groups, and sectors addressed by LCAPs. By comparing both geographic and statistical clusters, we found (1) significant spatial heterogeneity across European cities but (2) higher average plan quality scores and more consistent strategies across cities in Central and Eastern Europe. Notably, we found no regional differences regarding (a) the climate impacts and vulnerable communities identified in plans: (b) the most commonly addressed impacts, which were urban temperature and changing precipitation patterns; and (c) the residents that cities identified as most vulnerable, namely older people, women, infants, and the sick. Our study provides a spatial analysis of European LCAPs to uncover regional policy perspectives on local climate adaptation issues. Such approaches can effectively inform broader EU, national and regional strategies that aim to support local adaptation planning in a context of multi-level governance

    Alterations in deoxyribonucleic acid and proteins in cerebral tissues from fetuses subject to alcohol in utero

    Critical period for intra-uterine growth retardation (IUGR), and biochemical parameters for tissue growth were studied in an animal model of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) in rats. Our research used 40 animals, fed Lieber and DeCarli liquid diets, distributed into 4 groups: C, or control--non-alcoholic--, ad libitum; E, or alcoholic, fed ad libitum; F, or alcoholic, pair fed to E; and P, non-alcoholic, pair fed to E and F. Fetuses of group E were exposed to ethanol during the organogenic period, while those from group F exposed only during the last stage of pregnancy. Blood alcohol levels were determined both at the end of 42 days before pregnancy, and on days 3, 7, 14 and 19 of gestation. The brain content of total DNA and proteins was measured, along with the cell size of fetal tissues. Non-parametric statistics were applied, considering the litter as unit, and 5% as the significant level. Prenatal ethanol exposure was associated with a cell size, total DNA, and cerebral protein content all significantly lower (p less than or equal to 0.05) than in non-alcoholic groups. These facts strongly suggest that the critical period for growth retardation associated with FAS may be situated at the end of pregnancy, when metabolic disturbances of the brain could also arise, while major external malformations are likely to be produced during organogenesis
