Supporting the object-oriented database on the Kernel Database System
If a single operating system can support multitudes of different programming languages and data structures, a database system can support a variety of data models and data languages. In this thesis, a Kernel Database System (KDS) supporting classical data models and data languages (i.e., hierarchical, network, relational, and functional) is used to support a demonstration object oriented data model and data language. This thesis extends previous research by accommodating an object-oriented-data-model-and-language interface in the KDS. Consequently, the research shows that it is feasible to use the KDS to support modem data models and languages as well as classical ones. This thesis details the KDS design, Insert operation, and Display function. This thesis also details how to implement modifications to the Test-Interface so that the KDS can support the object-oriented database. This thesis proves complex data structures in an object-oriented data model can be realized using an attribute-based data model which is the kernel data model of the KDS. Second, it details how the KDS is designed showing why no changes needed to be made to the KDS to implement the object-oriented toy database. Third, it argues the advantages of using a KDS in the database-system design. Building real-time audio applications with component technology
The thesis looks at how QoS-aware applications (QSAs), with an
Internet phone as a case, can be built from components (with
Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) as the chosen component model). It also
identifies limitations of the EJB standard that cause problems
implementing real-time audio applications. The requirements to the EJB
platform are identified by analyzing a generic design which is made
from common components. These components are found by inspecting
existing applications and communication architectures. Three Internet
phone applications (with and without EJB) are made for performance
measurements, and as a help to the analysis work. Finally in this

Object technology: A white paper
Object-Oriented Technology (OOT), although not a new paradigm, has recently been prominently featured in the trade press and even general business publications. Indeed, the promises of object technology are alluring: the ability to handle complex design and engineering information through the full manufacturing production life cycle or to manipulate multimedia information, and the ability to improve programmer productivity in creating and maintaining high quality software. Greening Europe
The third installment of the ‘European Public Investment Outlook’ series is an important and timely publication that draws together recent analyses to recommend significant increases in public investment in green ventures. Compelling data from key economists affiliated with international organizations like the International Monetary Fund, European Investment Bank and the European Commission, as well as academic departments and policy institutes are a clarion call for green investment to boost the economy and put the planet on a sustainable path.
Like its predecessors, the book presents the issues in a lucid and navigable manner. Part I explores the EU’s current levels of green public investment, as well as the challenges ahead in achieving net zero carbon emissions after years of decreasing funding and the obstacles presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The public investment trends of France, Germany, Italy and Spain are systematically evaluated, as well as the REPowerEU policy – accelerated in Spring 2022 – to move away from Russia’s supply of fossil fuels.
