    In this paper, our basic and clinical studies using the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test to examine the subject's constructional abilities were reviewed. In a result, some findings about the normal development of the constructional actions and clinical significance of the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test were revealed. The main findings of them were as follows.( 1) The development of the copy organization strategy tended to progress from“ local strategy” observed in the lower grade children to“ global strategy” observed in the upper grade children during elementary school period.( 2) The copy organization strategy could predict the performance of the recall accuracy in normal adolescents, but not in the autism adolescents.( 3) Even in the elderly, the constructional ability estimated by Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test remained at a high level

    Attention and visuospatial abilities: neuropsychological approach in field-dependent and field-independent schoolchildren

    The aim of this study was to explore cognitive processes that may underlie the poor school performance of children with a field-dependent cognitive style. One-hundred-and fortynine children between the ages of 8 and 11 were evaluated using the Children Embedded Figures Test (CEFT) and classified as field-dependent, field-independent, or intermediate field-dependent- independent (FDI). The Digit Span and Digit Symbol, as well as the Visual Search and Attention Test (VSAT) were administered as tests of attentional function. The Block Design and the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test were administered as tests of visuospatial abilities. Fieldindependent children obtained higher scores than field-dependent children on the tests of attentional function. With regard to visuospatial tasks, field-independent children obtained higher scores than both field-dependent and intermediate FDI children on the Block Design test.     Bakalářská práce se zabývá digitalizací Rey-Osterriethova obkreslovacího testu. V první části je popsána problematika obkreslovacích testů v psychologii, přičemž je větší část věnována Rey-Osterrithovu komplexní figuře a dále je navrhnut způsob separace čar. Druhá část je věnována aplikaci pro vizualizaci posloupnosti vzniku kresby a hodnocení její komplexnosti. Dále také vyhodnocuje časový průběh kresby. V poslední části bakalářské práce je statistické vyhodnocení spočtených parametrů a je navržen normativ.This thesis deals with the digitalization of Rey-Osterrieth tracing drawing test. The first part describes the issue of drawing tests in psychology with focus on Rey-Osterrieth complex figure. Also there is designed way of line separation. The second part is devoted to the application designed to visualize the sequence of drawing and to evaluate its complexity. It also evaluates dynamic parametres of the drawing. In the last part of the thesis is the statistical evaluation of calculated parameters and designed normative.

    Effect of neurofeedback on perceptual organization, visual and auditory memory in children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder

     Abstract ObjectivesNeurofeedback is a noninvasive treatment that changes brain activity in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and thereby improves performance in these children. We examined the effect of neurofeedback on perceptual organization, visual and auditory memory in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.Materials & MethodsThis study was quasi-experimental with pre-test, post-test design, and control group. The sample included 20 children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder were selected through convenience sampling in Khorramabad, central Iran in 2017. The sample was divided into control and experimental groups. Pre-test included Rey-Osterrieth complex figure and Wechsler digit span. Rey-Osterrieth complex figure test was used to measure perceptual organization and visual memory. Wechsler digit span was used to measure auditory memory. After conducting pre-test, the experimental group participated in neurofeedback training sessions. Theta/Beta protocol was applied for all participants. The control group did not receive any intervention. Then post-test was conducted on two groups. ResultsNeurofeedback training significantly improved visual memory (P<0.001) but neurofeedback training had no significant effect on the perceptual organization (P>0.05). Moreover, neurofeedback training enhanced auditory short-term memory and auditory working memory (P<0.05).ConclusionNeurofeedback improved neurocognitive abilities in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder

    Central Coherence in Eating Disorders: A Synthesis of Studies Using the Rey Osterrieth Complex Figure Test

    Background: Large variability in tests and differences in scoring systems used to study central coherence in eating disorders may lead to different interpretations, inconsistent findings and between study discrepancies. This study aimed to address inconsistencies by collating data from several studies from the same research group that used the Rey Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (Rey Figure) in order to produce norms to provide benchmark data for future studies. Method: Data was collated from 984 participants in total. Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, recovered Anorexia Nervosa, unaffected family members and healthy controls were compared using the Rey Figure. Results: Poor global processing was observed across all current eating disorder sub-groups and in unaffected relatives. There was no difference in performance between recovered AN and HC groups. Conclusions: This is the largest dataset reported in the literature and supports previous studies implicating poor global processing across eating disorders using the Rey Figure. It provides robust normative data useful for future studies

    Utilization of the Inkling™ for the Rey - Osterrieth Complex Figure test

     The Rey - Osterrieth Complex Figure (ROCF) test assess visual-construction abilility, visual memory and executive function. Three different methods are traditionally used to track and to record the strokes during the production of the complex figure: single pen, switching felt pens and flowcharts. The Inkling™ is an instrument which attributes are to track, to record and to save the information of every stroke depicted in a standard piece of paper. The purpose of the study is to examine the advantages and disadvantages of using the Inkling™ in the ROCF test. 66 ROCF performances were analyzed from subjects aged 6 to 86 years old. Each subject performed the ROCF test twice; first with pen switching method without flowcharts and later with the Inkling™ or viceversa. The comparison of the performances evidenced 5 characteristics: Four subjects distracted by the color of the felt pens, three subjects interfered by the switching of the felt pens, three subjects which performance was facilitated by the colors of the felt pens, nine subjects with unclear score for Fragmentation and fourteen subjects with unclear score for Planning. The advantages that the Inkling™ showed were compensation for the process of flowcharts, avoid interference, and reduce the burden of unclear scoring for Fragmentation and Planning

    Assessment of neuropsychiatric indicators in children and adolescents with primary brain tumors and other brain space occupying lesions before and after surgery

      Objective Cognitive abilities may be impaired due to brain lesions in children and adolescents. This study aimed to investigate neuropsychiatric indicators in children and adolescents with primary brain tumor and other brain space occupying lesions (SOL) before and after surgical procedure. Methods & materials the current study is a pre and post study which was conducted on 81 patients with brain space occupying lesions aged less than 18. Patients with metastatic brain tumors were excluded. The study was performed between 20 December 2016 to 20 December 2017 on patients hospitalized in neurosurgery ward of Imam Reza university hospital, Tabriz, Iran. Before and after surgical procedure, Digit span forward and backward Task (to assess working memory), Stroop task and Trail Making Task A & B (to assess attention) and Rey Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (to assess Visual Spatial Memory) were done. Then, scores of tests were compared with normal values as well as the post-surgery scores. Results the most prevalent type of space occupying brain lesion was medulloblastoma and the most common region of involvement was posterior fossa tumor. Scores of all tests after surgery comparing to before surgery were significantly improved (P<0.05). In assessment of Digit span forward and backward Task with standard scores, there was no significant difference among scores of patients before surgery with the standard value (P>0.05). Regarding scores of various stages of Rey Osterrieth Complex Figure Test, the  scores of immediate recall stage was significantly low (P<0.05). Among Trail Making Task A & B and stroop task, before surgery, just the Trail Making Task A & B was significantly increased (P<0.05). Scores of Trail Making Task A was significantly higher in patients with medulloblastoma and anatomically in left temporal tumors which indicate greater damage of attention field (P<0.05). In addition, in cerebellar tumor, scores of immediate recall stage of Rey Osterrieth Complex Figure Test was significantly lower (P<0.05). Conclusions Visuo-Spatial Memory and attention in pre-surgery assessments was significantly impaired comparing to general population (P<0.05). Working memory, Visuo-Spatial Memory and attention showed improvement comparing to pre-surgery. Deficits in attention domain was greater in medulloblastoma

    Perampanel and Visuospatial Skills in Children With Epilepsy

    Introduction: Perampanel (PER) is a non-competitive AMPA glutamate receptor antagonist approved for focal and generalized seizures as add-on therapy. PER does not seem to negatively affect the cognitive profile in children and adolescents, but its influence on visuospatial abilities is still to be assessed. The aim of our study was to assess visuospatial skills through a standardized neuropsychological evaluation in adolescents taking PER for 12 months. Methods: Our sample included 46 adolescents aged 12–18 years with focal and generalized drug-resistant epilepsy already in therapy with one or two antiseizure medications. Changes in visuospatial perception and memory were assessed by the Rey–Osterrieth Complex Figure Test at baseline (before taking PER) and after 12 months of pharmacological treatment. Executive functions and non-verbal intelligence were also assessed at baseline. Results: After 12 months of PER therapy, the mean scores on the Rey–Osterrieth Complex Figure Test remained almost unchanged for both visuospatial perception and visuospatial memory skills. At baseline, visuospatial memory was related to executive function, and visuospatial perception was related to executive function and non-verbal intelligence. Conclusions: Adjunctive treatment with PER did not negatively affect visuospatial skills. No adverse event effects have been reported after 12 months of follow-up, and this suggests a good tolerability in the middle-to-long term

    Impaired Recent Verbal Memory in Pornography-Addicted Juvenile Subjects

    We aimed to find the differences in memory capabilities between pornography-addicted and nonaddicted juveniles. We enrolled 30 juveniles (12–16 y) consisting of 15 pornography addiction and 15 nonaddiction subjects. We used Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) to measure verbal memory, Rey–Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (ROCFT) for visual memory, along with Trail Making Test A and B (TMT-A and TMT-B) for attention. We found a significant reduction in the RAVLT A6 result of the addiction group (nonaddiction vs addiction: 13.47 ± 2.00 vs 11.67 ± 2.44, MD � − 1.80, p � 0.04), but not in ROCFT or attention tests. Analysis in sex subgroups yielded no sex-specific difference. We concluded that pornography addiction may be associated with impaired recent verbal memory in juveniles, regardless of sex and without association to attention

    Avaliação de planejamento estratégico em pacientes com transtorno obsessivo-compulsivo de acordo com as dimensões de sintomas obsessivo-compulsivos

    OBJECTIVE: This study investigates obsessive-compulsive disorder patients in terms of strategic planning and its association with specific obsessive-compulsive symptom dimensions. METHOD: We evaluated 32 obsessive-compulsive disorder patients. Strategic planning was assessed by the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test, and the obsessive-compulsive dimensions were assessed by the Dimensional Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale. In the statistical analyses, the level of significance was set at 5%. We employed linear regression, including age, intelligence quotient, number of comorbidities, the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale score, and the Dimensional Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale. RESULTS: The Dimensional Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale worst-ever score correlated significantly with the planning score on the copy portion of the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (r = 0.4, p = 0.04) and was the only variable to show a significant association after linear regression (β = 0.55, t = 2.1, p = 0.04). Compulsive hoarding correlated positively with strategic planning (r = 0.44, p = 0.03). None of the remaining symptom dimensions presented any significant correlations with strategic planning. CONCLUSION: We found the severity of obsessive-compulsive symptoms to be associated with strategic planning. In addition, there was a significant positive association between the planning score on the copy portion of the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test copy score and the hoarding dimension score on the Dimensional Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale. Our results underscore the idea that obsessive-compulsive disorder is a heterogeneous disorder and suggest that the hoarding dimension has a specific neuropsychological profile. Therefore, it is important to assess the peculiarities of each obsessive-compulsive symptom dimension.OBJETIVO: Este estudo investiga o planejamento estratégico em pacientes com transtorno obsessivo-compulsivo e sua possível associação com dimensões de sintomas obsessivo-compulsivos. MÉTODO: Foram avaliados 32 pacientes com transtorno obsessivo-compulsivo. O planejamento estratégico foi avaliado pelo Teste da Figura Complexa de Rey. Presença e gravidade de sintomas obsessivo-compulsivos foram avaliadas pela Escala Dimensional para Sintomas Obsessivo-Compulsivos e a Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale. Análises estatísticas foram realizadas utilizando nível de significância de 5%. RESULTADOS: Escores globais da Escala Dimensional para Sintomas Obsessivo-Compulsivos na pior fase apresentaram correlação significativa com os escores de cópia do Teste da Figura Complexa de Rey-Osterrieth (r = 0,4, p = 0,04), além de manter significância na análise de regressão, incluindo idade, quociente de inteligência, número de comorbidades e escores no Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale e Escala Dimensional para Sintomas Obsessivo-Compulsivos (β= 0,55, t = 2,1, p = 0,04). A dimensão colecionismo teve uma correlação significativa com o escore de planejamento estratégico (r = 0,44, p = 0,03). As outras dimensões de sintomas obsessivo-compulsivos não apresentaram correlações significativas com os escores de planejamento estratégico. CONCLUSÃO: A gravidade dos sintomas obsessivo-compulsivos e a dimensão colecionismo apresentaram associações significativas com escores de planejamento estratégico na cópia do Teste da Figura Complexa de Rey.
