Data Mapping for XBRL: A Systematic Literature Review
It is evident the growth of the use of eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) technology in the context of financial reports on the Internet, either for its advantages and benefits or by government impositions, however, the data to be transported by this language are mostly stored in structures defined as database, some relational other NoSQL. The need to integrate XBRL technology with other data storage technologies has been growing continuously, and research is needed to seek a solution for mapping data between these environments. The possible difficulties in integrating XBRL with other technologies, relational database or NoSQL, CSV files, JSON, need to be mapped and overcome. Generating XBRL documents from the database can be costly, since there is no native alternative that the database manager system exports from the database manager system, the data in XBRL. For this, specific third-party systems are needed to generate XBRL documents. Generally, these systems are proprietary and have a high cost. Integrate these different technologies adds complexity, since these documents do not connect to the database manager system. These difficulties cause performance and storage problems and in cases of large data, such as data delivery to government agencies, complexity increases. Thus, it is essential to study techniques and methods that allow us to infer a solution to perform this integration and/or mapping, preferably in a generic way, that includes the XBRL data structure and the main data models currently used, i.e. Relational DBMS, NoSQL, JSON or CSV files. It is expected, in this work, through a systematic literature review, to identify the state of the art concerning the mapping of XBRL data
An MPEG-7 scheme for semantic content modelling and filtering of digital video
Abstract Part 5 of the MPEG-7 standard specifies Multimedia Description Schemes (MDS); that is, the format multimedia content models should conform to in order to ensure interoperability across multiple platforms and applications. However, the standard does not specify how the content or the associated model may be filtered. This paper proposes an MPEG-7 scheme which can be deployed for digital video content modelling and filtering. The proposed scheme, COSMOS-7, produces rich and multi-faceted semantic content models and supports a content-based filtering approach that only analyses content relating directly to the preferred content requirements of the user. MAC-REALM: A video content feature extraction and modelling framework
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.A consequence of the ‘data deluge’ is the exponential increase in digital video footage, while the ability to find relevant video clips diminishes. Traditional text based search engines are no longer optimal for searching, as they cannot provide a granular search of the content inside video footage. To be able to search the video in a content based manner, the content features of the video need to be extracted and modelled into a content model, which can then act as a searchable proxy for the video content. This thesis focuses on the extraction of syntactic and semantic content features and content modelling, using machine driven processes, with either little or no user interaction. Our abstract framework design extracts syntactic and semantic content features and compiles them into an integrated content model. The framework integrates a four plane strategy that consists of a pre-processing plane that removes redundant data and filters the media to improve the feature extraction properties of the media; a syntactic feature extraction plane that extracts low level syntactic feature and mid-level syntactic features that have semantic attributes; a semantic relationship analysis and linkage plane, where the spatial and temporal relationships of all the content features are defined, and finally a content modelling stage where the syntactic and semantic content features are integrated into a content model. Each of the four planes can be split into three layers namely, the content layer, where the content to be processed is stored; the application layer, where the content is converted into content descriptions, and the MPEG-7 layer, where content descriptions are serialised. Using MPEG-7 standards to produce the content model will provide wide-ranging interoperability, while facilitating granular multi-content type searches. The framework is aiming to ‘bridge’ the semantic gap, by integrating the syntactic and semantic content features from extraction through to modelling. The design of the framework has been implemented into a prototype called MAC-REALM, which has been tested and evaluated for its effectiveness to extract and model content features. Conclusions are drawn about the research output as a whole and whether they have met the objectives. BilVideo-7 : video parsing, indexing and retrieval

large video collections. This is getting more and more important as the amount of
video data increases at a stunning rate. This thesis introduces the BilVideo-7 system
to address the issues related to video parsing, indexing and retrieval.
BilVideo-7 is a distributed and MPEG-7 compatible video indexing and retrieval
system that supports complex multimodal queries in a unified framework. The video
data model is based on an MPEG-7 profile which is designed to represent the videos
by decomposing them into Shots, Keyframes, Still Regions and Moving Regions. The
MPEG-7 compatible XML representations of videos according to this profile are obtained
by the MPEG-7 compatible video feature extraction and annotation tool of
BilVideo-7, and stored in a native XML database. Users can formulate text, color,
texture, shape, location, motion and spatio-temporal queries on an intuitive, easy-touse
visual query interface, whose composite query interface can be used to formulate
very complex queries containing any type and number of video segments with their
descriptors and specifying the spatio-temporal relations between them. The multithreaded
query processing server parses incoming queries into subqueries and executes
each subquery in a separate thread. Then, it fuses subquery results in a bottom-up manner
to obtain the final query result and sends the result to the originating client. The
whole system is unique in that it provides very powerful querying capabilities with a
wide range of descriptors and multimodal query processing in an MPEG-7 compatible

A Data-driven Methodology Towards Mobility- and Traffic-related Big Spatiotemporal Data Frameworks
Human population is increasing at unprecedented rates, particularly in urban areas. This increase, along with the rise of a more economically empowered middle class, brings new and complex challenges to the mobility of people within urban areas. To tackle such challenges, transportation and mobility authorities and operators are trying to adopt innovative Big Data-driven Mobility- and Traffic-related solutions. Such solutions will help decision-making processes that aim to ease the load on an already overloaded transport infrastructure. The information collected from day-to-day mobility and traffic can help to mitigate some of such mobility challenges in urban areas.
Road infrastructure and traffic management operators (RITMOs) face several limitations to effectively extract value from the exponentially growing volumes of mobility- and traffic-related Big Spatiotemporal Data (MobiTrafficBD) that are being acquired and gathered. Research about the topics of Big Data, Spatiotemporal Data and specially MobiTrafficBD is scattered, and existing literature does not offer a concrete, common methodological approach to setup, configure, deploy and use a complete Big Data-based framework to manage the lifecycle of mobility-related spatiotemporal data, mainly focused on geo-referenced time series (GRTS) and spatiotemporal events (ST Events), extract value from it and support decision-making
processes of RITMOs.
This doctoral thesis proposes a data-driven, prescriptive methodological approach towards the design, development and deployment of MobiTrafficBD Frameworks focused on GRTS and ST Events. Besides a thorough literature review on Spatiotemporal Data, Big Data and the merging of these two fields through MobiTraffiBD, the methodological approach comprises a set of general characteristics, technical requirements, logical components, data flows and technological infrastructure models, as well as guidelines and best practices that aim to guide researchers, practitioners and stakeholders, such as RITMOs, throughout the design, development and deployment phases of any MobiTrafficBD Framework.
This work is intended to be a supporting methodological guide, based on widely used
Reference Architectures and guidelines for Big Data, but enriched with inherent characteristics
and concerns brought about by Big Spatiotemporal Data, such as in the case of GRTS and ST
Events. The proposed methodology was evaluated and demonstrated in various real-world
use cases that deployed MobiTrafficBD-based Data Management, Processing, Analytics and
Visualisation methods, tools and technologies, under the umbrella of several research projects
funded by the European Commission and the Portuguese Government.A população humana cresce a um ritmo sem precedentes, particularmente nas áreas urbanas.
Este aumento, aliado ao robustecimento de uma classe média com maior poder económico,
introduzem novos e complexos desafios na mobilidade de pessoas em áreas urbanas. Para
abordar estes desafios, autoridades e operadores de transportes e mobilidade estão a adotar
soluções inovadoras no domínio dos sistemas de Dados em Larga Escala nos domínios da
Mobilidade e Tráfego. Estas soluções irão apoiar os processos de decisão com o intuito de libertar uma infraestrutura de estradas e transportes já sobrecarregada. A informação colecionada da mobilidade diária e da utilização da infraestrutura de estradas pode ajudar na mitigação de alguns dos desafios da mobilidade urbana.
Os operadores de gestão de trânsito e de infraestruturas de estradas (em inglês, road infrastructure and traffic management operators — RITMOs) estão limitados no que toca a extrair valor de um sempre crescente volume de Dados Espaciotemporais em Larga Escala no domínio da Mobilidade e Tráfego (em inglês, Mobility- and Traffic-related Big Spatiotemporal Data —MobiTrafficBD) que estão a ser colecionados e recolhidos. Os trabalhos de investigação sobre os tópicos de Big Data, Dados Espaciotemporais e, especialmente, de MobiTrafficBD, estão dispersos, e a literatura existente não oferece uma metodologia comum e concreta para preparar, configurar, implementar e usar uma plataforma (framework) baseada em tecnologias Big Data para gerir o ciclo de vida de dados espaciotemporais em larga escala, com ênfase nas série temporais georreferenciadas (em inglês, geo-referenced time series — GRTS) e eventos espacio-
temporais (em inglês, spatiotemporal events — ST Events), extrair valor destes dados e apoiar os
RITMOs nos seus processos de decisão.
Esta dissertação doutoral propõe uma metodologia prescritiva orientada a dados, para o design, desenvolvimento e implementação de plataformas de MobiTrafficBD, focadas em GRTS e ST Events. Além de uma revisão de literatura completa nas áreas de Dados Espaciotemporais, Big Data e na junção destas áreas através do conceito de MobiTrafficBD, a metodologia proposta contem um conjunto de características gerais, requisitos técnicos, componentes lógicos, fluxos de dados e modelos de infraestrutura tecnológica, bem como diretrizes e boas
práticas para investigadores, profissionais e outras partes interessadas, como RITMOs, com o
objetivo de guiá-los pelas fases de design, desenvolvimento e implementação de qualquer pla-
taforma MobiTrafficBD.
Este trabalho deve ser visto como um guia metodológico de suporte, baseado em Arqui-
teturas de Referência e diretrizes amplamente utilizadas, mas enriquecido com as característi-
cas e assuntos implícitos relacionados com Dados Espaciotemporais em Larga Escala, como
no caso de GRTS e ST Events. A metodologia proposta foi avaliada e demonstrada em vários
cenários reais no âmbito de projetos de investigação financiados pela Comissão Europeia e

Context-Specific Preference Learning of One Dimensional Quantitative Geospatial Attributes Using a Neuro-Fuzzy Approach
Change detection is a topic of great importance for modern geospatial information systems. Digital aerial imagery provides an excellent medium to capture geospatial information. Rapidly evolving environments, and the availability of increasing amounts of diverse, multiresolutional imagery bring forward the need for frequent updates of these datasets. Analysis and query of spatial data using potentially outdated data may yield results that are sometimes invalid. Due to measurement errors (systematic, random) and incomplete knowledge of information (uncertainty) it is ambiguous if a change in a spatial dataset has really occurred. Therefore we need to develop reliable, fast, and automated procedures that will effectively report, based on information from a new image, if a change has actually occurred or this change is simply the result of uncertainty. This thesis introduces a novel methodology for change detection in spatial objects using aerial digital imagery. The uncertainty of the extraction is used as a quality estimate in order to determine whether change has occurred. For this goal, we develop a fuzzy-logic system to estimate uncertainty values fiom the results of automated object extraction using active contour models (a.k.a. snakes). The differential snakes change detection algorithm is an extension of traditional snakes that incorporates previous information (i.e., shape of object and uncertainty of extraction) as energy functionals. This process is followed by a procedure in which we examine the improvement of the uncertainty at the absence of change (versioning). Also, we introduce a post-extraction method for improving the object extraction accuracy. In addition to linear objects, in this thesis we extend differential snakes to track deformations of areal objects (e.g., lake flooding, oil spills). From the polygonal description of a spatial object we can track its trajectory and areal changes. Differential snakes can also be used as the basis for similarity indices for areal objects. These indices are based on areal moments that are invariant under general affine transformation. Experimental results of the differential snakes change detection algorithm demonstrate their performance. More specifically, we show that the differential snakes minimize the false positives in change detection and track reliably object deformations
Improving Indoor Security Surveillance by Fusing Data from BIM, UWB and Video
Indoor physical security, as a perpetual and multi-layered phenomenon, is a time-intensive and labor-consuming task. Various technologies have been leveraged to develop automatic access control, intrusion detection, or video monitoring systems. Video surveillance has been significantly enhanced by the advent of Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras and advanced video processing, which together enable effective monitoring and recording. The development of ubiquitous object identification and tracking technologies provides the opportunity to accomplish automatic access control and tracking. Intrusion detection has also become possible through deploying networks of motion sensors for alerting about abnormal behaviors. However, each of the above-mentioned technologies has its own limitations. This thesis presents a fully automated indoor security solution that leverages an Ultra-wideband (UWB) Real-Time Locating System (RTLS), PTZ surveillance cameras and a Building Information Model (BIM) as three sources of environmental data. Providing authorized persons with UWB tags, unauthorized intruders are distinguished as the mismatch observed between the detected tag owners and the persons detected in the video, and intrusion alert is generated. PTZ cameras allow for wide-area monitoring and motion-based recording. Furthermore, the BIM is used for space modeling and mapping the locations of intruders in the building. Fusing UWB tracking, video and spatial data can automate the entire security procedure from access control to intrusion alerting and behavior monitoring. Other benefits of the proposed method include more complex query processing and interoperability with other BIM-based solutions. Pentagonal scheme for dynamic XML prefix labelling
In XML databases, the indexing process is based on a labelling or
numbering scheme and generally used to label an XML document to
perform an XML query using the path node information. Moreover, a
labelling scheme helps to capture the structural relationships during the
processing of queries without the need to access the physical document.
Two of the main problems for labelling XML schemes are duplicated
labels and the cost efficiency of labelling time and size. This research
presents a novel dynamic XML labelling scheme, called the Pentagonal
labelling scheme, in which data are represented as ordered XML nodes
with relationships between them. The update of these nodes from large scale XML documents has been widely investigated and represents a
challenging research problem as it means relabelling a whole tree. Our
algorithms provide an efficient dynamic XML labelling scheme that
supports data updates without duplicating labels or relabelling old nodes.
Our work evaluates the labelling process in terms of size and time, and
evaluates the labelling scheme’s ability to handle several insertions in
XML documents. The findings indicate that the Pentagonal scheme
shows a better initial labelling time performance than the compared
schemes, particularly when using large XML datasets. Moreover, it
efficiently supports random skewed updates, has fast calculations and
uncomplicated implementations so efficiently handles updates. Also, it
proved its capability in terms of the query performance and in determining

This document records the final program for each of the 26 meetings of the International Database and Engineering Application Symposium from 1997 through 2021. These meetings were organized in various locations on three continents. Most of the papers published during these years are in the digital libraries of IEEE(1997-2007) or ACM(2008-2021)
