Since inception in 1984, the Fisheries and Oceanographic Research Vessel Sagar Sampada, with sophisticated modern facilities onboard, has undertaken more than 140 cruises all over the Indian Ocean primarily in our Exclusive Economic Zone for fishery and oceanographic survey. Scientists from many institutions have made use of this facility to explore the resource potential in our sea and to understand its correlation with the environmental parameters. These survey and exploration efforts are continuing. This volume contains many papers which are the outcome of research work carried out onboard 'Sagar Sampada' during last five years (1989-1993) and presented in a Workshop to evaluate the scientific work. About 60 papers, included in this volume, bring out the results pertaining to environmental assessment, hydrology, productivity estimates, fishery resources availability, fishing technology, pollution monitoring etc. These relate mainly to the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands groups in the EEZ of India. These efforts along with other mission-oriented cruises have yielded valuable information on the fishery resources and their distribution in space and time

Received: January 29th, 2021 ; Accepted: April 8th, 2021 ; Published: May 20th, 2021 ; Correspondence: [email protected] study describes the mechanical behaviour of oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) as a promising product for pyrolysis production. The EFB samples mixture of moisture content 6.3 ± 0.3 (% d.b.) were grouped into different fraction sizes of 10, 20, 40 and 100 mm. The initial pressing height of each fraction size was measured at 60 mm and compressed at a maximum force of 4,500 N and speed of 10 mm min-1 to obtain the force-deformation dependencies using the universal compression machine and pressing vessel of diameter 60 mm with a plunger. Deformation, deformation energy, volume energy and strain were calculated. While deformation decreased with fraction sizes, deformation energy increased. The deformation energies at fraction sizes from 10 mm to 100 mm indicated energy savings of approximately 23%. The optimal fraction size in relation to energy efficiency was observed at 10 mm. The tangent model accurately described the mechanical behaviour of the EFB samples mixture. The results provide useful information for the design of optimal technology for processing EFB for energy purposes

3rd IFAC Workshop on Advanced Maintenance Engineering, Services and Technology AMEST 2016: Biarritz, France, 19—21 October 2016. -IFAC-PapersOnLine, Volume 49, Issue 28, 2016, Pages 191-196BIM models are transforming the way buildings or, in more general terms, facilities or infrastructures are conceived, designed, constructed and managed. But current use of BIM concentrates on preplanning, design, construction and project delivery rather than maintenance and operation management. This despite the fact that it is estimated that operation and maintenance phase constitutes approximately 60% of the total lifecycle cost of a facility or building. Asset Management, which is a broad discipline including Facilities Management (FM), provide an advance approach getting more efficiency and efficacy in the lifecycle management of building and facilities. This paper introduces how the development of AM in this particular field is going to be supported by the application of BIM models as key tool that will allow asset management information system effective implementation

In 2006 many engineers run into a difficulty with very rarely phenomenon during the construction of high buildings in exactly determined area to East of Sofia. Large caverns have appeared unexpectedly in the clay on depth of 4÷7m, just under the fundaments. Their volume has been around 3 ÷ 4 m3. There were mean one cavern per 60 m2. Such caverns have revealed as in the time of foundation pit, as under the old buildings. It was found that this is the known from the literature suffusion in clay which is rarely phenomena. The phenomenon has been investigated. It was found that 20 years ago the same problem had been actuated too for our specialists but the final decision has been impeded from the lower level of the technology for investigations. The information has not widespread and now it is forgotten yet. In this report are presented analyses of soil conditions, characteristics of structures, the investigation methods, the technical decisions for soil protection etc

Energy Consumption Reduction Strategies for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles with Connected Vehicle Technology in an Urban Environment

Automobile manufacturers have introduced plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) to reduce fossil fuel consumption. This paper details three optimization strategies that can be utilized to further minimize energy consumption of PHEVs through an information exchange between PHEVs and infrastructure agents supported by the connected vehicle technology (CVT). While an earlier research by the authors focused on a freeway scenario, this study developed strategies for an urban scenario in which frequent ‘stop-and-go’ conditions exist. Three strategies were considered in this study based on different types of information availability using CVT; only signal timing information was available in Strategy One, only headway information was available in Strategy Two, and both signal timing and headway information were available in Strategy Three. The performance of PHEVs that received no real-time information was used as the base case for Strategies One, Two or Three to evaluate each strategy. The optimization strategies resulted in energy consumption savings ranging from 60% to 76%. An analysis with various levels of penetration of CVT-supported PHEVs in the traffic was conducted to demonstrate the impact of these optimization strategies with their increased market share. For a case study network, the authors found a linear trend between energy savings and penetration rate of CVT supported PHEVs. The Strategy Three in which signal timing and headway data were provided to CVT supported PHEVs, resulted in about 31% to 35% energy savings with 30% penetration of CVT supported PHEVs at the peak hour volume

The development of information technology that is growing very rapidly has an effect on the community in supporting various business activities, both large and small so that they can be known globally. The most obvious impact is that apart from being known, it can also increase sales volume and profit. Digital Marketing is one of the marketing media through social media that has a very large influence. The residents of RT 10 RW 04 Padang Jati Bengkulu consist of 60 families, most of which are entrepreneurs, construction workers and housewives. Many housewives in RT 10 RW 04 Padang Jati have opened independent businesses at home, such as selling food, hijabs, clothes and drinks by promoting sales on social media. Initially, marketing activities on social media were only used as a free time filler, but now it has become the main activity as an addition to the economic cycle in the household. In the past, the sales activity of this industrial product was conventional or traditional, they made products only based on orders. However, after recognizing the existence of social media, some of the residents of RT 10 have begun to receive a lot of orders, so the sales volume is increasing rapidly compared to when selling in the old way. Digital marketing is seen as the best medium as the most effective and efficient means of promotion and is able to increase sales volume significantly

This article reports recent advances and progress in the field of electrical capacitance volume tomography (ECVT). ECVT, developed from the two-dimensional electrical capacitance tomography (ECT), is a promising non-intrusive imaging technology that can provide real-time three-dimensional images of the sensing domain. Images are reconstructed from capacitance measurements acquired by electrodes placed on the outside boundary of the testing vessel. In this article, a review of progress on capacitance sensor design and applications to multi-phase flows is presented. The sensor shape, electrode configuration, and the number of electrodes that comprise three key elements of three-dimensional capacitance sensors are illustrated. The article also highlights applications of ECVT sensors on vessels of various sizes from 1 to 60 inches with complex geometries. Case studies are used to show the capability and validity of ECVT. The studies provide qualitative and quantitative real-time three-dimensional information of the measuring domain under study. Advantages of ECVT render it a favorable tool to be utilized for industrial applications and fundamental multi-phase flow research

Volume visualization using Direct Volume Rendering (DVR) techniques is used to view information inside 3D volumetric data. Data is classified using a transfer function to emphasize or filter some parts of volumetric information, such as that from Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). In this paper, we introduced an application for real-time volume rendering interaction with 1D transfer functions using Virtual Reality (VR) technology based on the Oculus Rift headset and Oculus Touch controllers. Resulting images were visualized stereoscopically at 60 frames per second using a ray-casting shader, which works based on Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). To evaluate the system, 20 participants interacted with the application to complete three tasks, including a free viewpoint scan, clipping planes renderer, and an editable transfer function in the virtual environment. Then, a survey was carried out using a questionnaire to gather data. Findings showed that the average usability score for the application was 87.54, which suggested that it was highly usable

AbstractMajor heart diseases like heart muscle damage and valvular problems are diagnosed using echocardiogram. Since the echocardiogram is an image or sequence of images with less information the cardiologist spends more time to predict or to make decision. Automating the detection and diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a key enabling technology in computer aided diagnosis systems. In this paper, a system is proposed to automatically detect and diagnose dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This system performs denoising, enhancement, before left ventricular segmentation is carried out in the individual frames. Using the segmented left ventricle, the LV parameters like volume and ejection fraction (EF) are calculated and also the end-diastolic LV is extracted. The PCA and DCT features are obtained from the extracted end-diastolic LV and the classifiers BPNN, SVM and combined K-NN are used to classify the normal hearts, hearts affected with DCM and hearts affected with HCM. The PCA feature with BPNN classifier gives a highest overall accuracy of 92.04% in classifying normal and abnormal hearts. Experiments over 60 echocardiogram videos expose that the proposed system can be effectively utilized to detect and diagnose DCM and HCM
