    The aim of this paper is to propose a stability analysis approach based on the application of the center manifold theory and applied to state feedback Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy control systems. The approach is built upon a similar approach developed for Mamdani fuzzy controllers. It starts with a linearized mathematical model of the process that is accepted to belong to the family of single input second-order nonlinear systems which are linear with respect to the control signal. In addition, smooth right-hand terms of the state-space equations that model the processes are assumed. The paper includes the validation of the approach by application to stable state feedback Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy control system for the position control of an electro-hydraulic servo-system

    In this thesis, we present a control algorithm for a hypersonic re-entry vehicle during a Martian aerocapture maneuver. The proposed algorithm utilizes a discrete-time model predictive control technique with a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model of the vehicle to control the re-entry vehicle along an arbitrary trajectory using bank angle modulation. Simulations using model parameters and initial conditions from a Martian aerocapture mission demonstrate the stability, performance, and robustness of the proposed controller

    Synchronization of Discrete-Time Chaotic Fuzzy Systems by means of Fuzzy Output Regulation Using Genetic Algorithm

    The synchronization of chaotic systems, described by discrete-time T-S fuzzy models, is treated by means of fuzzy output regulation theory. The conditions for designing a discrete-time output regulator are given in this paper. Besides, when the system does not fulfill the conditions for exact tracking, a new regulator based on genetic algorithms is considered. The genetic algorithms are used to approximate the adequate membership functions, which allow the adequate combination of local regulators. As a result, the tracking error is significantly reduced. Both the Complete Synchronization and the Generalized Synchronization problem are studied. Some numerical examples are used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach

    Variable structure control with chattering reduction of a generalized T-S model

    In this paper, a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based variable structure control (VSC) is presented. The main objective is to obtain an improved performance of highly non-linear unstable systems. New functions for chattering reduction and error convergence without sacrificing invariant properties are proposed. The main feature of the proposed method is that the switching function is added as an additional fuzzy variable and will be introduced in the premise part of the fuzzy rules; together with the state variables. In this work, a tuning of the well known weighting parameters approach is proposed to optimize local and global approximation and modelling capability of the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model to improve the choice of the performance index and minimize it. The main problem encountered is that the T-S identification method can not be applied when the membership functions are overlapped by pairs. This in turn restricts the application of the T-S method because this type of membership function has been widely used in control applications. The approach developed here can be considered as a generalized version of the T-S method. An inverted pendulum mounted on a cart is chosen to evaluate the robustness, effectiveness, accuracy and remarkable performance of the proposed estimation approach in comparison with the original T-S model. Simulation results indicate the potential, simplicity and generality of the estimation method and the robustness of the chattering reduction algorithm. In this paper, we prove that the proposed estimation algorithm converge the very fast, thereby making it very practical to use. The application of the proposed FLC-VSC shows that both alleviation of chattering and robust performance are achieved

    Tuning of a TS Fuzzy Output Regulator Using the Steepest Descent Approach and ANFIS

    The exact output regulation problem for Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy models, designed from linear local subsystems, may have a solution if input matrices are the same for every local linear subsystem. Unfortunately, such a condition is difficult to accomplish in general. Therefore, in this work, an adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is integrated into the fuzzy controller in order to obtain the optimal fuzzy membership functions yielding adequate combination of the local regulators such that the output regulation error in steady-state is reduced, avoiding in this way the aforementioned condition. In comparison with the steepest descent method employed for tuning fuzzy controllers, ANFIS approximates the mappings between local regulators with membership functions which are not necessary known functions as Gaussian bell (gbell), sigmoidal, and triangular membership functions. Due to the structure of the fuzzy controller, Levenberg-Marquardt method is employed during the training of ANFIS

    Robust fault diagnosis of proton exchange membrane fuel cells using a Takagi-Sugeno interval observer approach

    In this paper, the problem of robust fault diagnosis of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells is addressed by introducing the Takagi-Sugeno (TS) interval observers that consider uncertainty in a bounded context, adapting TS observers to the so-called interval approach. Design conditions for the TS interval observer based on regional pole placement are also introduced to guarantee the fault detection and isolation (FDI) performance. The fault detection test is based on checking the consistency between the measurements and the output estimations provided by the TS observers. In presence of bounded uncertainty, this check relies on determining if all the measurements lie inside their corresponding estimated interval bounds. When a fault is detected, the measurements that are inconsistent with their corresponding estimations are annotated and a fault isolation procedure is triggered. By using the theoretical fault signature matrix (FSM), which summarizes the effects of the different faults on the available residuals, the fault is isolated by means of a logic reasoning that takes into account the bounded uncertainty, and if the number of candidate faults is more than one, a correlation analysis is used to obtain the most likely fault candidate.     Fuzzy-Model-Based (FMB) Control of a Spacecraft with Fuel Sloshing Dynamics

    During the upper-stage separation and orbit injection, orbital control, and attitude maneuver, propellant slosh in partially-filled fuel tanks can cause dynamical instability or pointing errors. The spacecraft dynamics combined with propellant sloshing results in a highly nonlinear and coupled dynamic system that requires a complicated control law. This problem has been a long-standing concern for space missions. The purpose of this research is two fold. The first part is to investigate and develop nonlinear Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model-based controllers for a spacecraft with fuel sloshing considering the input constraints on the actuators. It includes i) a fuzzy controller/observer with a minimum upper-bound control input based on the parallel-distributed compensation (PDC) technique, ii) a fuzzy controller/observer based on the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) that uses the premises of the T-S model, and iii) a robust-optimal fuzzy-model-based controller/observer. The designed controllers are globally asymptotically stable and have a satisfactory performance and robustness. The second part of the research is to develop a mathematical model of a spinning spacecraft with fuel sloshing during high-g maneuvers. The equations of motion of a spacecraft with partially-filled multiple-tanks are derived using the Kane’s method. To do this, two spherical pendulums as an equivalent mechanical model of the fuel sloshing are adopted. The effect of the slosh model parameters on the spacecraft nutation angle is studied.     Movement Stabilizing Using Afferent Control of Spinal Locomotor CPG Using Chaotic Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Logic Systems: A Simulation Study

     Background: External control of the function of the central pattern generators (CPGs), exist in the spinal cord, is possible by electrical or chemical stimulation of some of the spinal Afferents. After restarting the activity of spinal cord CPG, the dynamics of movements such as gait can be changed through the time by controlling the rhythm of the CPG.Methods: The purpose of this study was provision of closed loop control algorithm based on the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy controller in order to adjust the weight of the spinal cord afferents in a neuro-mechanical model with the aim of controlling the rhythm of the CPGs. Rhythm control of CPGs has been done with the aim of implementing the process of resetting the phase during gait in order to stabilize the movement against external disturbances. In this paper, the efficiency of a continuous Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy controller with the efficiency of 2 fuzzy Takagi-Sugeno chaotic controllers has been compared.Results: It was shown by the results obtained from the simulation that the process of resetting the motion phase of the skeletal angle in face of applying disturbance in method of chaotic Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy controller is done with good features in the presence of delayed feedback in decreasing overshoot and undershoot to the amount of 1.982 and 0.17 radians, respectively so that the best amount of afferent to reset the phase and return to the desired angle is provided at the shortest possible time.Conclusion: In this paper, the efficiency of a continuous Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy controller with the efficiency of 2 fuzzy Takagi-Sugeno chaotic controllers has been compared for movement stabilization using spinal cord afferent control. According to the results, the best performance was observed when the chaotic fuzzy Takagi-Sugenocontroller in the presence of delayed feedback was used
