Energy Efficiency Prediction using Artificial Neural Network
Buildings energy consumption is growing gradually and put away around 40% of total energy use. Predicting heating and cooling loads of a building in the initial phase of the design to find out optimal solutions amongst different designs is very important, as ell as in the operating phase after the building has been finished for efficient energy. In this study, an artificial neural network model was designed and developed for predicting heating and cooling loads of a building based on a dataset for building energy performance. The main factors for input variables are: relative compactness, roof area, overall height, surface area, glazing are a, wall area, glazing area distribution of a building, orientation, and the output variables: heating and cooling loads of the building. The dataset used for training are the data published in the literature for various 768 residential buildings. The model was trained and validated, most important factors affecting heating load and cooling load are identified, and the accuracy for the validation was 99.60%
Artificial Intelligence for Global Health: Learning From a Decade of Digital Transformation in Health Care
The health needs of those living in resource-limited settings are a vastly
overlooked and understudied area in the intersection of machine learning (ML)
and health care. While the use of ML in health care is more recently
popularized over the last few years from the advancement of deep learning,
low-and-middle income countries (LMICs) have already been undergoing a digital
transformation of their own in health care over the last decade, leapfrogging
milestones due to the adoption of mobile health (mHealth). With the
introduction of new technologies, it is common to start afresh with a top-down
approach, and implement these technologies in isolation, leading to lack of use
and a waste of resources. In this paper, we outline the necessary
considerations both from the perspective of current gaps in research, as well
as from the lived experiences of health care professionals in resource-limited
settings. We also outline briefly several key components of successful
implementation and deployment of technologies within health systems in LMICs,
including technical and cultural considerations in the development process
relevant to the building of machine learning solutions. We then draw on these
experiences to address where key opportunities for impact exist in
resource-limited settings, and where AI/ML can provide the most benefit.Comment: Accepted Paper at ICLR 2020 Workshop on Practical ML for Developing

How 5G wireless (and concomitant technologies) will revolutionize healthcare?
The need to have equitable access to quality healthcare is enshrined in the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which defines the developmental agenda of the UN for the next 15 years. In particular, the third SDG focuses on the need to “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”. In this paper, we build the case that 5G wireless technology, along with concomitant emerging technologies (such as IoT, big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning), will transform global healthcare systems in the near future. Our optimism around 5G-enabled healthcare stems from a confluence of significant technical pushes that are already at play: apart from the availability of high-throughput low-latency wireless connectivity, other significant factors include the democratization of computing through cloud computing; the democratization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cognitive computing (e.g., IBM Watson); and the commoditization of data through crowdsourcing and digital exhaust. These technologies together can finally crack a dysfunctional healthcare system that has largely been impervious to technological innovations. We highlight the persistent deficiencies of the current healthcare system and then demonstrate how the 5G-enabled healthcare revolution can fix these deficiencies. We also highlight open technical research challenges, and potential pitfalls, that may hinder the development of such a 5G-enabled health revolution
Big data analytics:Computational intelligence techniques and application areas
Big Data has significant impact in developing functional smart cities and supporting modern societies. In this paper, we investigate the importance of Big Data in modern life and economy, and discuss challenges arising from Big Data utilization. Different computational intelligence techniques have been considered as tools for Big Data analytics. We also explore the powerful combination of Big Data and Computational Intelligence (CI) and identify a number of areas, where novel applications in real world smart city problems can be developed by utilizing these powerful tools and techniques. We present a case study for intelligent transportation in the context of a smart city, and a novel data modelling methodology based on a biologically inspired universal generative modelling approach called Hierarchical Spatial-Temporal State Machine (HSTSM). We further discuss various implications of policy, protection, valuation and commercialization related to Big Data, its applications and deployment
Radical Technological Innovation and Perception: A Non-Physician Practitioners’ Perspective
Radical technological innovations, such as chatbots, fundamentally alter many aspects of healthcare organizations. For example, they transform how clinicians care for their patients. Despite the potential benefits, they cannot be integrated into practice without the support of the clinicians whose jobs are affected. While previous research shed important light on physicians’ perceptions, little is known on nonphysician practitioners view said innovations. This paper reports on a qualitative study, involving 10 nonphysician clinicians from Ontario, Canada, conducted to determine the perceptions and cognitions of clinicians regarding radical innovation and their previous experiences with technological change. Results indicate that clinicians as semi-autonomous agents can interpret and act upon their environment with regard to determining how innovations such as chatbots are implemented

Big Data in the Oil and Gas Industry: A Promising Courtship
The energy industry remains one of the highest money-producing and investment industries in the world. The United States’ own economic stability depends greatly on the stability of oil and gas prices. Various factors affect the amount of money that will continue to be invested in producing oil. A main disadvantage to the oil and gas industry is its lack of technological adaptation. This weakens the industry because the surest measures are not currently being taken to produce oil in optimally efficient, safe, and cost-effective ways. Big data has gained global recognition as an opportunity to gather large volumes of information in real-time and translate data sets into actionable insights. In a low commodity price environment, saving time, reducing costs, and improving safety are crucial outcomes that can be realized using machine learning in oil and gas operations. Big data provides the opportunity to use unsupervised learning. For example, with this approach, engineers can predict oil wells’ optimal barrels of production given the completion data in a specific area. However, a caveat to utilizing big data in the oil and gas industry is that there simply is neither enough physical data nor data velocity in the industry to be properly referred to as “big data.” Big data, as it develops, will nonetheless significantly change the energy business in the future, as it already has in various other industries.Petroleum and Geosystems Engineerin
Internet of robotic things : converging sensing/actuating, hypoconnectivity, artificial intelligence and IoT Platforms
The Internet of Things (IoT) concept is evolving rapidly and influencing newdevelopments in various application domains, such as the Internet of MobileThings (IoMT), Autonomous Internet of Things (A-IoT), Autonomous Systemof Things (ASoT), Internet of Autonomous Things (IoAT), Internetof Things Clouds (IoT-C) and the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT) etc.that are progressing/advancing by using IoT technology. The IoT influencerepresents new development and deployment challenges in different areassuch as seamless platform integration, context based cognitive network integration, new mobile sensor/actuator network paradigms, things identification(addressing, naming in IoT) and dynamic things discoverability and manyothers. The IoRT represents new convergence challenges and their need to be addressed, in one side the programmability and the communication ofmultiple heterogeneous mobile/autonomous/robotic things for cooperating, their coordination, configuration, exchange of information, security, safetyand protection. Developments in IoT heterogeneous parallel processing/communication and dynamic systems based on parallelism and concurrencyrequire new ideas for integrating the intelligent “devices”, collaborativerobots (COBOTS), into IoT applications. Dynamic maintainability, selfhealing,self-repair of resources, changing resource state, (re-) configurationand context based IoT systems for service implementation and integrationwith IoT network service composition are of paramount importance whennew “cognitive devices” are becoming active participants in IoT applications. This chapter aims to be an overview of the IoRT concept, technologies, architectures and applications and to provide a comprehensive coverage offuture challenges, developments and applications
