    Sensor fault diagnosis of singular delayed LPV systems with inexact parameters: an uncertain system approach

    In this paper, sensor fault diagnosis of a singular delayed linear parameter varying (LPV) system is considered. In the considered system, the model matrices are dependent on some parameters which are real-time measurable. The case of inexact parameter measurements is considered which is close to real situations. Fault diagnosis in this system is achieved via fault estimation. For this purpose, an augmented system is created by including sensor faults as additional system states. Then, an unknown input observer (UIO) is designed which estimates both the system states and the faults in the presence of measurement noise, disturbances and uncertainty induced by inexact measured parameters. Error dynamics and the original system constitute an uncertain system due to inconsistencies between real and measured values of the parameters. Then, the robust estimation of the system states and the faults are achieved with H8 performance and formulated with a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The designed UIO is also applicable for fault diagnosis of singular delayed LPV systems with unmeasurable scheduling variables. The published papers provide new ideas and approaches, clearly indicating the advances made in problem statements, methodologies or applications with respect to the existing results. The special issue also includes papers focusing on advanced and non-traditional methods and presenting considerable novelties in theoretical background or experimental setup. Some papers present applications to newly emerging fields, such as network-based control and estimation

    Fuzzy control turns 50: 10 years later

    In 2015, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Fuzzy Sets, ten years after the main milestones regarding its applications in fuzzy control in their 40th birthday were reviewed in FSS, see [1]. Ten years is at the same time a long period and short time thinking to the inner dynamics of research. This paper, presented for these 50 years of Fuzzy Sets is taking into account both thoughts. A first part presents a quick recap of the history of fuzzy control: from model-free design, based on human reasoning to quasi-LPV (Linear Parameter Varying) model-based control design via some milestones, and key applications. The second part shows where we arrived and what the improvements are since the milestone of the first 40 years.     Review of selection criteria for sensor and actuator configurations suitable for internal combustion engines

    This literature review considers the problem of finding a suitable configuration of sensors and actuators for the control of an internal combustion engine. It takes a look at the methods, algorithms, processes, metrics, applications, research groups and patents relevant for this topic. Several formal metric have been proposed, but practical use remains limited. Maximal information criteria are theoretically optimal for selecting sensors, but hard to apply to a system as complex and nonlinear as an engine. Thus, we reviewed methods applied to neighboring fields including nonlinear systems and non-minimal phase systems. Furthermore, the closed loop nature of control means that information is not the only consideration, and speed, stability and robustness have to be considered. The optimal use of sensor information also requires the use of models, observers, state estimators or virtual sensors, and practical acceptance of these remains limited. Simple control metrics such as conditioning number are popular, mostly because they need fewer assumptions than closed-loop metrics, which require a full plant, disturbance and goal model. Overall, no clear consensus can be found on the choice of metrics to define optimal control configurations, with physical measures, linear algebra metrics and modern control metrics all being used. Genetic algorithms and multi-criterial optimisation were identified as the most widely used methods for optimal sensor selection, although addressing the dimensionality and complexity of formulating the problem remains a challenge. This review does present a number of different successful approaches for specific applications domains, some of which may be applicable to diesel engines and other automotive applications. For a thorough treatment, non-linear dynamics and uncertainties need to be considered together, which requires sophisticated (non-Gaussian) stochastic models to establish the value of a control architecture

    Asymptotically exact stabilisation for constrained discrete Takagi-Sugeno systems via set-invariance

    [EN] Given a Takagi-Sugeno (TS) system, this paper proposes a novel methodology to obtain the state feedback controller guaranteeing, asymptotically as a Polya-related complexity parameter grows, the largest (membership-shape independent) possible domain-of-attraction with contraction-rate performance lambda, based on polyhedral lambda-contractive sets from constrained linear systems literature. The resulting controller is valid for any realisation of the memberships, as usual in most TS literature. For a finite complexity parameter, an inner estimate of such largest set is obtained; the frontier of such approximation can be understood as the level set of a polyhedral control-Lyapunov function. Convergence of a proposed iterative algorithm is asymptotically necessary and sufficient for TS system stabilisation: for a high-enough value of the complexity parameter, any conceivable shape-independent Lyapunov controller design procedure will yield a proven domain of attraction smaller or equal to the algorithm's output.     A robust LMI approach on nonlinear feedback stabilization of continuous state-delay systems with Lipschitzian nonlinearities : experimental validation

    This paper suggests a novel nonlinear state-fe edback stabilization control law using linear matrix inequalities for a class oftime-delayed nonlinear dynamic systems with Lipschitz nonlinearity conditions. Based on the Lyapunov–Krasovskiistability theory, the asymptotic stabilization criterion is derived in the linear matrix inequality form and the coef¿cients ofthe nonlinear state-feedback controller are determined. Meanwhile, an appropriate criterion to ¿nd the proper feedbackgain matrix F is also provided. The robustness purpose against nonlinear functions and time delays is guaranteed in thisscheme. Moreover , the problem of robust H!performance analysis for a class of nonlinear time-delayed system s withexternal disturbance is studied in this paper. Simulations are presented to demonstrate the pro¿ciency of the offeredtechnique. For this purpos e, an unstable nonlinear numerical system and a rotary inverted pendulum system have beenstudied in the simulation section. Moreover, an experimental study of the practical rotary inverted pendul um system isprovided.
