IEEE Standard 1500 Compliance Verification for Embedded Cores
Core-based design and reuse are the two key elements for an efficient system-on-chip (SoC) development. Unfortunately, they also introduce new challenges in SoC testing, such as core test reuse and the need of a common test infrastructure working with cores originating from different vendors. The IEEE 1500 Standard for Embedded Core Testing addresses these issues by proposing a flexible hardware test wrapper architecture for embedded cores, together with a core test language (CTL) used to describe the implemented wrapper functionalities. Several intellectual property providers have already announced IEEE Standard 1500 compliance in both existing and future design blocks. In this paper, we address the problem of guaranteeing the compliance of a wrapper architecture and its CTL description to the IEEE Standard 1500. This step is mandatory to fully trust the wrapper functionalities in applying the test sequences to the core. We present a systematic methodology to build a verification framework for IEEE Standard 1500 compliant cores, allowing core providers and/or integrators to verify the compliance of their products (sold or purchased) to the standar
Contract Aware Components, 10 years after
The notion of contract aware components has been published roughly ten years
ago and is now becoming mainstream in several fields where the usage of
software components is seen as critical. The goal of this paper is to survey
domains such as Embedded Systems or Service Oriented Architecture where the
notion of contract aware components has been influential. For each of these
domains we briefly describe what has been done with this idea and we discuss
the remaining challenges.Comment: In Proceedings WCSI 2010, arXiv:1010.233
Development of an Extended Product Lifecycle Management through Service Oriented Architecture.
Organised by: Cranfield UniversityThe aim of this work is to define new business opportunities through the concept of Extended Product
Lifecycle Management (ExtPLM), analysing its potential implementation within a Service Oriented
Architecture. ExtPLM merges the concepts of Extended Product, Avatar and PLM. It aims at allowing a
closer interaction between enterprises and their customers, who are integrated in all phases of the life cycle,
creating new technical functionalities and services, improving both the practical (e.g. improving usage,
improving safety, allowing predictive maintenance) and the emotional side (e.g. extreme customization) of
the product.Mori Seiki â The Machine Tool Company; BAE Systems; S4T â Support Service Solutions: Strategy and Transitio
Sharing Human-Generated Observations by Integrating HMI and the Semantic Sensor Web
Current âInternet of Thingsâ concepts point to a future where connected objects gather meaningful information about their environment and share it with other objects and people. In particular, objects embedding Human Machine Interaction (HMI), such as mobile devices and, increasingly, connected vehicles, home appliances, urban interactive infrastructures, etc., may not only be conceived as sources of sensor information, but, through interaction with their users, they can also produce highly valuable context-aware human-generated observations. We believe that the great promise offered by combining and sharing all of the different sources of information available can be realized through the integration of HMI and Semantic Sensor Web technologies. This paper presents a technological framework that harmonizes two of the most influential HMI and Sensor Web initiatives: the W3Câs Multimodal Architecture and Interfaces (MMI) and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) with its semantic extension, respectively. Although the proposed framework is general enough to be applied in a variety of connected objects integrating HMI, a particular development is presented for a connected car scenario where driversâ observations about the traffic or their environment are shared across the Semantic Sensor Web. For implementation and evaluation purposes an on-board OSGi (Open Services Gateway Initiative) architecture was built, integrating several available HMI, Sensor Web and Semantic Web technologies. A technical performance test and a conceptual validation of the scenario with potential users are reported, with results suggesting the approach is soun
The Chain of Quality through Integrated Product Development
Today, it is almost impossible to find a manufacturer who has not been significantly influenced by the quality culture, but it is evident that some are doing more to improve their product quality than others are. The so-called "Chain of Quality" through integrated product development is a useful metaphor since it recognises that quality is a continuing topic of attention throughout the product development process and that discrete, quality related activities in the process are inter-linked. Depending upon how the product development process is modelled, the chain can be viewed as open or closed with single or parallel threads. In this paper, the overall purpose of the chain, the nature and identity of its many links and the relationship of the chain to the product development process will be discussed. In so doing, this paper will present an overall picture of important product development strategies and practices that can have a key impact on product quality
Semantic Support for Log Analysis of Safety-Critical Embedded Systems
Testing is a relevant activity for the development life-cycle of Safety
Critical Embedded systems. In particular, much effort is spent for analysis and
classification of test logs from SCADA subsystems, especially when failures
occur. The human expertise is needful to understand the reasons of failures,
for tracing back the errors, as well as to understand which requirements are
affected by errors and which ones will be affected by eventual changes in the
system design. Semantic techniques and full text search are used to support
human experts for the analysis and classification of test logs, in order to
speedup and improve the diagnosis phase. Moreover, retrieval of tests and
requirements, which can be related to the current failure, is supported in
order to allow the discovery of available alternatives and solutions for a
better and faster investigation of the problem.Comment: EDCC-2014, BIG4CIP-2014, Embedded systems, testing, semantic
