Towards a fragment approach to haemozoin inhibiting antimalarials : exploration of coordination and π-stacking interactions with Fe(III)PPIX by spectroscopy and synthesis

Includes bibliographical references (leaves 116-122).Investigation of coordination and π-stacking interactions with ferriprotoporphyrin IX (Fe(III)PPIX) using a fragment approach was undertaken in order to propose and synthesise novel compounds which followed a hypothesised mechanism of action to inhibit β-haematin formation. Coordination of a series of pyridines, imidazoles, amines and phenolates with Fe(III)PPIX, and n-stacking interactions of these compounds with protoporphyrin IX (PPIX) and Fe(III)PPIX were measured in 40% (v/v) aq. DMSO by spectrophotometric titration

This paper describes the features of SHOP2 which enabled it to excel in the competition, especially those aspects of SHOP2 that deal with temporal and metric planning domains

Computational Modeling of Trust Factors Using Reinforcement Learning

As machine-learning algorithms continue to expand their scope and approach more ambiguous goals, they may be required to make decisions based on data that is often incomplete, imprecise, and uncertain. The capabilities of these models must, in turn, evolve to meet the increasingly complex challenges associated with the deployment and integration of intelligent systems into modern society. Historical variability in the performance of traditional machine-learning models in dynamic environments leads to ambiguity of trust in decisions made by such algorithms. Consequently, the objective of this work is to develop a novel computational model that effectively quantifies the reliability of autonomous decision-making algorithms. The approach relies on the implementation of a neural network based reinforcement learning paradigm known as adaptive critic design to model an adaptive decision making process that is regulated by a quantitative measure of risk associated with each possible decision. Specifically, this work expands on the risk-directed exploration strategies of reinforcement learning to obtain quantitative risk factors for an automated object recognition process in the presence of imprecise data. Accordingly, this work addresses the challenge of automated risk quantification based on the confidence of the decision model and the nature of given data. Additionally, further analysis into risk directed policy development for improved object recognition is presented

This study aimed to examine how a collaborative mentoring model (CMM), incorporating dyadic and tripartite conferences, influenced the mentees’ and school mentors’ professional development in a practicum in a teacher education program. A qualitative-evaluative case study was adopted to gather in-depth data for the comprehensive examination of the contributions of the model on the participants’ growth. A strategy of data and methodological triangulation was employed through semi-structured interviews, autobiographies and reflective journals to better understand the phenomenon under investigation and contribute to the trustworthiness of the study. Multiple data were analyzed through content analysis, putting emphasis on creating predetermined categories so as to promote the feasibility of the replication of the study. The findings triangulated revealed that participants found mentoring influential on the development of their personal and professional skills. The findings also displayed certain instructional and programmatic implications critical to be considered for the improvement of the mentoring process.

Caries Experience and Oral Disorders of Disabled Children

Dental caries is a major health problem for disabled children. These special children have chronic diseases; oral disorders; and physical, mental, behavioral, and cognitive impairments; and sensual disorders. They have higher and more severe oral disorders than healthy children, and the majority of these children have poor oral hygiene with high caries prevalence and gingivitis. These special children suffer from oral disease, especially in terms of periodontal disease, oral mucosal pathology, and malocclusion. Parents and caregivers must be educated and encouraged regarding these special children’s dental care and tooth brushing. The dentist should know more information about these special children and should be more careful during treatment. Pediatric dentists must take care of special attention to the oral healthcare of these special children and help them to have healthy smiles

The research objective was to determine the extent of the effect of Crotalaria USAramoensis in the quail ration on abdominal and egg fat. The study was conducted on 18 November up to December 30, 2011 in Jamal Sari, District Mijen Semarang, Livestock and Food Science Laboratory of Nutritional Biochemistry Laboratory of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, Diponegoro University, Semarang. The material used in this research were as many as 100 quail with 7-12 weeks of age, were given feed is concentrate, corn, fish meal, and Crotalaria USAramoensis (3%, 6%, 9%). The study design used was completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 5 replications, each replication consisted of five quail. T0 = ration without Crotalaria USAramoensis, T1 = ration with 3% Crotalaria USAramoensis, T2 = ration with 6% Crotalaria USAramoensis, T3 = ration with 9% Crotalaria USAramoensis. Parameters measured were ration consumption, egg production, abdominal fat, and egg fat. The data were statistically processed by analysis of the range and if there is a significant effect of treatment was continued multiple regions Duncan test at 5% level. The results showed that administration of Crotalaria USAramoensis (3%, 6%, 9%) in the quail ration layer period showed a significant effect on consumption, but had no effect on abdominal fat, egg fat, and egg production. The inference is that the provision of research Crotalaria USAramoensis for the purpose of egg quality (fat loss), which is best by giving 9%
