    A Comprehensive Survey of Deep Learning Models Based on Keras Framework

    Python is one of the most widely adopted programming languages, having replaced a number of those in the field. Python is popular with developers for a variety of reasons, one of which is because it has an incredibly diverse collection of libraries in which users can run. This paper provides the most current survey on Keras, which is a Python-based deep learning Application Programming Interface (API) that runs on top of the machine learning framework TensorFlow. The mentions library is used in conjunction with TensorFlow, PyTorch, CODEEPNEATM, and Pygame to allow integration of deep learning models such as cardiovascular disease diagnostics, graph neural networks, identify health issues, COVID-19 recognition, skin tumors, image detection, and so on, in the applied area. Furthermore, the author used Keras details, goals, challenges, and significant outcomes, as well as the findings, obtained using this method.   Keywords

    Design for novel enhanced weightless neural network and multi-classifier.

    Weightless neural systems have often struggles in terms of speed, performances, and memory issues. There is also lack of sufficient interfacing of weightless neural systems to others systems. Addressing these issues motivates and forms the aims and objectives of this thesis. In addressing these issues, algorithms are formulated, classifiers, and multi-classifiers are designed, and hardware design of classifier are also reported. Specifically, the purpose of this thesis is to report on the algorithms and designs of weightless neural systems. A background material for the research is a weightless neural network known as Probabilistic Convergent Network (PCN). By introducing two new and different interfacing method, the word "Enhanced" is added to PCN thereby giving it the name Enhanced Probabilistic Convergent Network (EPCN). To solve the problem of speed and performances when large-class databases are employed in data analysis, multi-classifiers are designed whose composition vary depending on problem complexity. It also leads to the introduction of a novel gating function with application of EPCN as an intelligent combiner. For databases which are not very large, single classifiers suffices. Speed and ease of application in adverse condition were considered as improvement which has led to the design of EPCN in hardware. A novel hashing function is implemented and tested on hardware-based EPCN. Results obtained have indicated the utility of employing weightless neural systems. The results obtained also indicate significant new possible areas of application of weightless neural systems

    Beyond Educational Videogames to Educational Systems-That-Incorporate Videogames: A Case Study of a System for Learning about Energy

    A common goal for designers of educational videogames is to make learning fun. Unfortunately, the result is often a game that tries to combine the fun aspects of videogames with learning elements, but that is neither fun nor effective for learning. In this paper we present our discovery of an alternative approach—a system that combines both education and entertainment, but that separates them into different modules that are loosely-coupled. Entertainment motivates education through a reward mechanism, where performance in the education module yields tokens that can be redeemed for in-game assets in the entertainment module. We present a case study of our specific implementation of this system, and we discuss how it can be generalized to motivate the learning of any topic where performance can be measured. This research contributes to our understanding of designing cognitive artifacts, and to our understanding of designing educational systems as distributed services

    Evolutionary design of deep neural networks

    Mención Internacional en el título de doctorFor three decades, neuroevolution has applied evolutionary computation to the optimization of the topology of artificial neural networks, with most works focusing on very simple architectures. However, times have changed, and nowadays convolutional neural networks are the industry and academia standard for solving a variety of problems, many of which remained unsolved before the discovery of this kind of networks. Convolutional neural networks involve complex topologies, and the manual design of these topologies for solving a problem at hand is expensive and inefficient. In this thesis, our aim is to use neuroevolution in order to evolve the architecture of convolutional neural networks. To do so, we have decided to try two different techniques: genetic algorithms and grammatical evolution. We have implemented a niching scheme for preserving the genetic diversity, in order to ease the construction of ensembles of neural networks. These techniques have been validated against the MNIST database for handwritten digit recognition, achieving a test error rate of 0.28%, and the OPPORTUNITY data set for human activity recognition, attaining an F1 score of 0.9275. Both results have proven very competitive when compared with the state of the art. Also, in all cases, ensembles have proven to perform better than individual models. Later, the topologies learned for MNIST were tested on EMNIST, a database recently introduced in 2017, which includes more samples and a set of letters for character recognition. Results have shown that the topologies optimized for MNIST perform well on EMNIST, proving that architectures can be reused across domains with similar characteristics. In summary, neuroevolution is an effective approach for automatically designing topologies for convolutional neural networks. However, it still remains as an unexplored field due to hardware limitations.     An Approach to Pattern Recognition by Evolutionary Computation

    Evolutionary Computation has been inspired by the natural phenomena of evolution. It provides a quite general heuristic, exploiting few basic concepts: reproduction of individuals, variation phenomena that affect the likelihood of survival of individuals, inheritance of parents features by offspring. EC has been widely used in the last years to effectively solve hard, non linear and very complex problems. Among the others, EC–based algorithms have also been used to tackle classification problems. Classification is a process according to which an object is attributed to one of a finite set of classes or, in other words, it is recognized as belonging to a set of equal or similar entities, identified by a label. Most likely, the main aspect of classification concerns the generation of prototypes to be used to recognize unknown patterns. The role of prototypes is that of representing patterns belonging to the different classes defined within a given problem. For most of the problems of practical interest, the generation of such prototypes is a very hard problem, since a prototype must be able to represent patterns belonging to the same class, which may be significantly dissimilar each other. They must also be able to discriminate patterns belonging to classes different from the one that they represent. Moreover, a prototype should contain the minimum amount of information required to satisfy the requirements just mentioned. The research presented in this thesis, has led to the definition of an EC–based framework to be used for prototype generation. The defined framework does not provide for the use of any particular kind of prototypes. In fact, it can generate any kind of prototype once an encoding scheme for the used prototypes has been defined. The generality of the framework can be exploited to develop many applications. The framework has been employed to implement two specific applications for prototype generation. The developed applications have been tested on several data sets and the results compared with those obtained by other approaches previously presented in the literature

    Defensive Approximation: Securing CNNs using Approximate Computing

    In the past few years, an increasing number of machine-learning and deep learning structures, such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), have been applied to solving a wide range of real-life problems. However, these architectures are vulnerable to adversarial attacks. In this paper, we propose for the first time to use hardware-supported approximate computing to improve the robustness of machine learning classifiers. We show that our approximate computing implementation achieves robustness across a wide range of attack scenarios. Specifically, for black-box and grey-box attack scenarios, we show that successful adversarial attacks against the exact classifier have poor transferability to the approximate implementation. Surprisingly, the robustness advantages also apply to white-box attacks where the attacker has access to the internal implementation of the approximate classifier. We explain some of the possible reasons for this robustness through analysis of the internal operation of the approximate implementation. Furthermore, our approximate computing model maintains the same level in terms of classification accuracy, does not require retraining, and reduces resource utilization and energy consumption of the CNN. We conducted extensive experiments on a set of strong adversarial attacks; We empirically show that the proposed implementation increases the robustness of a LeNet-5 and an Alexnet CNNs by up to 99% and 87%, respectively for strong grey-box adversarial attacks along with up to 67% saving in energy consumption due to the simpler nature of the approximate logic. We also show that a white-box attack requires a remarkably higher noise budget to fool the approximate classifier, causing an average of 4db degradation of the PSNR of the input image relative to the images that succeed in fooling the exact classifierComment: ACM International Conference on Architectural Support for Programming Languages and Operating Systems (ASPLOS 2021
