The limited time available for each medical visit
is the main reason that physicians cut down the length and number of words used in their patient notes. The translator
must carry out an exercise of analysis, based on his/her knowledge of the subject area, to be able to decode the doctor’s
message. This is the main motive of the research study presented here: to contribute to the transmission of patient-targeted
medical documents, providing a detailing and (English-Spanish) translation of the most common initialisms, acronyms, and
abbreviations within this social services fiel
As a result of the founding of the EU, and of increased immigration from English-speaking countries, the country of Spain is witness of many EnglishSpanish legal translation briefs. Regrettably, these do not always achieve the necessary level of excellence, which is partially due to the ignorance of the macrostructure of the documents and also to the lack of consultation of parallel texts. This paper reports on the findings of one study whose purpose was to analyse the macrostructure of notarial agency instruments within the civil and criminal scopes. Our research corpus consists of 100 general powers of attorney in digital format: 20 Spanish, 20 North-American, 20 for England and Wales, 20 Scottish, 20 valid for Northern Ireland.
Succession instruments in electronic format: Contrastive macrostructure (England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland versus Spain)
testamentos en formato electrónico (30 españoles;
30 escoceses). Los resultados del análisis revelan
tangenciales divergencias macroestructurales
(y gramaticales) en el género jurídico analizado
en los sistemas de derecho citados. Pensamos
que el conocimiento de estas divergencias macroestructurales
de un complejo género como el
testamento contribuye a realizar su traducción
bidireccional: directa (inglés-español) y también
inversa (español-inglés), como requiere el mercado
laboral actualmenteNowadays, succession documents translation
is one of the most frequent translation briefs.
This matter takes on particular importance in
countries with a high immigration rate, and
that is the case of Spain: as a consequence of
immigration of English-speaking people, many
legal and sworn (EnglishSpanish) translations
of testamentary instruments are carried
out. In order to achieve this, the knowledge of
textual and structural features of legal and family
documents in general, and in succession
documents in particular becomes essential.
This paper reports on the findings of one
study whose purpose was to analyse the macrostructure
of succession instruments. Our research
corpus consists of 90 wills in electronic
format: 30 Spanish, 30 for England, Wales and
Northern Ireland, and 30 Scottish. Our analysis
results show striking differences in the macrostructure
(and grammar) of the legal genre analysed
in the legal systems aforementioned. We
suggest that the knowledge of macrostructural
differences of a complex text genre such as the
will contributes to carrying out its bi-directional
translation: not only with direct directionality
(English-Spanish) but also with reverse directionality
(Spanish-English), highly demanded in the
current professional marke
orden de presentación de la información, cuyo conocimiento contribuye a facilitar la traducción de este solicitado géneroThe patient information leaflet or package insert is one of the most requested text genres in the biomedical translation
market, but patients, their intended audience, find it extremely difficult to understand these documents. Among other factors,
there are two formats for this type of text: the traditional package insert and the modern patient information leaflet. We therefore
present our analysis of macrostructures in a corpus of 40 traditional package inserts (English/Spanish). The results reveal
significant differences in the order in which information is presented, and an understanding of these differences will help to
facilitate translation of this requested genr
Quasi-synonym doublets, triplets and quadruplets within british and north american digital powers of attorney: analysis and translation proposal
Based on our experience as translators, researchers and lecturers, we have found that powers of attorney are the legal documents with the highest rate of doublets, triplets, and quadruplets. These represent a major obstacle to reading comprehension and translating any type of legal instrument, especially in the case of (quasi) synonym expressions. Moreover, most of them are not cited in specialized dictionaries; and those appearing offer too literal translations for these expressions. For those reasons, this paper reports on the analysis and classification of English synonym and quasi synonym doublets, triplets, and quadruplets drawn from a legal corpus of 100 powers of attorney in digital format (CD-Rom): 25 North American, 25 for England and Wales, 25 Scottish, and 25 for Northern Ireland. Moreover, we hereby suggest the translation and simplification of those expressions, revising the most pertinent and useful strategies for developing their professional translation

ESTRATEGIAS DOCENTES PARA LA INTERPRETACIÓN CONSECUTIVA
The unquestionable predominance of simultaneous interpreting over the consecutive mode does not prevent the latter from being used, due to several reasons (language accuracy or logistic reasons).Although the student may have an adequate linguistic level together with sorne kind of general aptitude for interpreting; the role of the teacher is also essential. This is mainly due to the fact that he has to apply already defined teaching strategies related to this interpreting mode (memory, note-taking, intuition, improvisation, and so on). A pursuit of the afore mentioned strategies will allow the students to enhance the development of the different interpreting skills. That is the reason why we wíll introduce and go through a set of exercises -based on our teaching experience- that can be practised in the classroom by teachers. They will give the students the necessary academic training for enhancing the cognitíve abilities necessary for their future professional life.
