: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among the preservice science teachers’ proenvironmental behaviours, environmental identity, and ecocentric and anthropocentric attitudes toward environment. A total of 576 (407 females and 169 males) preservice science teachers enrolling in five public universities’ education faculties in Eastern and South-eastern Anatolian Region of Turkey were administered a questionnaire regarding the variables. Convenience sampling method was chosen to constitute the sample of this study. In order to analyse the data collected, descriptive statistics and path analysis as inferential statistics were utilized. According to the results of the study, preservice science teachers held moderate level of favourable environmental behaviours, had strong environmental identity, and possessed high level of ecocentric and moderate level of anthropocentric attitudes toward environment. Moreover, environmental identity directly and strongly predicted the preservice science teachers’ proenvironmental behaviours. The findings revealed that environmental identity plays a crucial role in predicting proenvironmental behaviours

Comorbid Conditions in Child and Adolescent Patients Diagnosed with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common childhood psychiatric disorders. The worldwide prevalence of ADHD in children has been reported at 4-7%. Numerous population- and clinical-based studies have reported that more than half of cases of ADHD have at least one psychiatric comorbidity. The presence of psychiatric comorbidities complicates the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of ADHD; thus, diagnosis of comorbidities is of great importance. Possible comorbidities should therefore be investigated in cases diagnosed with ADHD before treatment planning

Intrusion detection systems (IDSs) have received great interest in computer science, along with increased network productivity and security threats. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the incoming network traffic is normal or an attack based on 41 features in the NSL-KDD dataset. In this paper, the performance of a stacking technique for network intrusion detection was analysed. Stacking technique is an ensemble approach which is used for combining various classification methods to produce a preferable classifier. Stacking models were trained on the NSLKDD training dataset and evaluated on the NSLKDDTest+ and NSLKDDTest21 test datasets. In the stacking technique, four different algorithms were used as base learners and an algorithm was used as a stacking meta learner. Logistic Regression (LR), Decision Trees (DT), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), and K Nearest Neighbor (KNN) are the base learner models and Support Vector Machine (SVM) model is the meta learner. The proposed models were evaluated using accuracy rate and other performance metrics of classification. Experimental results showed that stacking significantly improved the performance of intrusion detection systems. The ensemble classifier (DT-LR-ANN + SVM) model achieved the best accuracy results with 90.57% in the NSLKDDTest + dataset and 84.32% in the NSLKDDTest21 dataset

Human hydatid disease is endemic in Turkey and brain hydatosis is a childhood disease. The hydatid cysts of the brain are mostly single and 18% of the cases have another visceral involvement. The cysts may rarely reach to gigantic sizes in children. Here, we report a case of gigantic hydatid cyst of the brain in a seven years old boy who presented with signs of increased intracranial pressure. He was successfully operated with Dowling's surgical technique and he is still being followed up with no neurologic sequel.

Numerical approximation to a solution of the modified regularized long wave equation using quintic B splines

    Get PDF
In this work, a numerical solution of the modified regularized long wave (MRLW) equation is obtained by the method based on collocation of quintic B-splines over the finite elements. A linear stability analysis shows that the numerical scheme based on Von Neumann approximation theory is unconditionally stable. Test problems including the solitary wave motion, the interaction of two and three solitary waves and the Maxwellian initial condition are solved to validate the proposed method by calculating error norms L2 and L∞ that are found to be marginally accurate and efficient. The three invariants of the motion have been calculated to determine the conservation properties of the scheme. The obtained results are compared with other earlier result

Solving fractional diffusion and fractional diffusion-wave equations by Petrov-Galerkin finite element method

In the last few years, it has become highly evident that fractional calculus has been widely used in several areas of science. Because of this fact, their numerical solutions also have become urgently important. In this manuscript, numerical solutions of both the fractional diffusion and fractional diffusion-wave equations have been obtained by a Petrov-Galerkin finite element method using quadratic B-spline base functions as trial functions and linear B-spline base functions as the test functions. In those equations, fractional derivatives are used in terms of the Caputo sense. While the L1 discretizaton formula has been applied to fractional diffusion equation, the L2 discretizaton formula has been applied to the fractional diffusion-wave equation. Finally, the error norms L2 and L∞ have been calculated for testing the accuracy of the proposed scheme.Publisher's Versio

In this paper, a numerical solution of the modified regularized long wave (MRLW) equation has been obtained by a numerical technique based on a lumped Galerkin method using cubic B-spline finite elements. Solitary wave motion, interaction of two and three solitary waves have been studied to validate the proposed method. The three invariants ( 1 2 3 I ,I ,I ) of the motion have been calculated to determine the conservation properties of the scheme. Error norms L2 and L∞ have been used to measure the differences between the exact and numerical solutions. Also, a linear stability analysis of the scheme is proposed

The purpose of this research is to examine the educational effect of the use of visual media technology in the Education System. In order to achieve this purpose, the teachers’ opinions were consulted. For this reason, together with the demographic variables of the teachers working in secondary schools, the effects of visual media technology in education and training in Northern Cyprus were investigated. The commonly used survey method was used in this research to describe the current situation and in order to gather the data collection tool “The educational effect of the use of the visual media by the teachers” was used. It has been found significant differences for the items “Visual media literacy has isolated the students from the dreamy education approach”, “I don’t find the visual media suitable for the students” and “The traditional education approach has ended with the visual media”. As a result, teachers believe that the education provided by visual media is more concrete, but that visual technology is not integrated into the existing education system sufficiently.

Objective: The aim of this prospective case control study was to describe the risk factors for bacteremia due to Acinetobacter species among hospitalized patients. Methods: The study was conducted prospectively from July 2012 to January 2014, and one case group and two control groups were created. Case group comprising patients with Acinetobacter bacteremia and control group 1 comprising patients with bacteremia due to other agents and control group 2 comprising non-bacteremic patients were compared in terms of demographic characteristics, underlying diseases, invasive procedures, and antibiotic use. Results: The study group (n=23) and control groups (n=46) were compared with univariate analysis and significant risk factors for Acinetobacter bacteremia were as follows: total parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy, use of broad spectrum antibiotics including β-lactam and β-lactamase inhibitors, carbapenems, teicoplanin, and antifungals (p<0.05). The duration of hospitalization was longer in case group (p=0.005). In multivariate analysis, factors independently associated with an increased risk of Acinetobacter spp. bacteremia included total parenteral nutrition (odds ratio, OR 5.13; confidence interval 95%, CI 95%, 1.41-18.57; p=0.013), use of a β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor (OR 7.67; CI 95% 1.67- 35.25; p=0.009), and use of teicoplanin (OR 4.11; CI 95% 1.09- 15.46; p=0.036). Conclusions: The definition of risk factors for Acinetobacter spp. bacteremia may help with the management of patients and infection control precautions by early prediction of the infection. © 2015, AVES Ibrahim Kara.
