Extension of germs of holomorphic foliations

We consider the problem of extending germs of plane holomorphic foliations to foliations of compact surfaces. We show that the germs that become regular after a single blow up and admit meromorphic first integrals can be extended, after local changes of coordinates, to foliations of compact surfaces. We also show that the simplest elements in this class can be defined by polynomial equations. On the other hand we prove that, in the absence of meromorphic first integrals there are uncountably many elements without polynomial representations.Comment: 17 page

    Embedded Curves and Foliations

We prove the existence of regular foliations with a prescribed tangency divisor in neighborhoods of negatively embedded holomorphic curves; this is related to a linearization theorem due to Grauert. We give also examples of neighborhoods which can not be linearized.Comment: Pub. Mat. 55, 201

Parallelising reception and transmission in queues of secondary users

In a cognitive radio network, the secondary users place the packets to be transmitted on a queue to control the order of arrival and to adapt to the network state. Previous conceptionsassigned to each secondary user a single queue that contains both received and forwarded packets. Our present article divides the main queue into two sub queues: one to receive the arrived packets and the other to transmit the available packets. This approach reduces the transmission delay due on the one hand; to the shifting of data placed on the single queue, and on the other hand; to the sequential processing of reception and transmission, in theprevious designs. All without increasing the memory capacity of the queue, in the new approach

This study aims to: 1) increase the involvement of students in learning activities proceed on Population Problems materials and Abatement Efforts through learning techniques OVAL-ET, 2) improving student learning outcomes in social studies learning through techniques OVAL-ET, and 3 ) determine students responses to the application of learning to OVAL-ET techniques in social studies for VIII A grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Rawalo in the first semester in the Academic Year 2010/2011. Questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data about their interests, and the assessment for learning social studies, while the observations are used to collect data about student involvement in various aktvitas proceed to learn both in the classroom and outside the classroom, and learning logs are used to determine students responses to the application of engineering OVAL-ET in teaching social studies. Based on the data from this study concluded Technique "OVAL-ET" to proceed to increase the involvement of students in learning activities and student achievement

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate the dietary habits and oral health related behaviors in relation to the dental health status in terms of decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT index) of a group of young adults attending to a dental school located in a major city in Turkey. Study Design: A total of 416 young adults (247 females and 169 males) with an age range of 18-25 (Mean 23.2 sd 0.97) attending the Oral Diagnosis department participated in the study. The patients completed a questionnaire including questions about demographic factors, dietary habits and oral health related behaviors. Subsequently, the DMFT index and plaque index was calculated. Descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U/ Kruskal Wallis Variance analysis, Chi-square/ Fisher?s Exact tests and multiple linear regression analysis were used for statistical analysis of the data when applicable. Results: According to the results of the study, approximately 70% of the patients had regular main meals and a very high snacking rate (76.9%) was present. Although not at a high rate, most of the patients brushed their teeth regularly twice a day (44.2%) and approximately half used other hygiene aids in addition to brushing (43.8%). The median of the DMFT index was 5 and a majority of the patients had moderate plaque accumulation which could be seen with the naked eye (45.0%). Dental plaque had the most significant effect on the DMFT index. Conclusion: In conclusion, advice, including importance of regularity of main meals, decrease in snacking frequency, regular brushing twice a day and the use of other oral hygiene aids for the elimination of dental plaque would be helpful to enhance the dietary habits and oral health related behaviors of young adult Turkish patients

    Singularités nilpotentes et intégrales premières

This paper presents a classification of plane dicritical nilpotent singularities, i.e. singularities which have nilpotent linear part and infinitely many separatrices. In particular the existence of meromorphic first integrals is discussed. The same ideas are applied to other kind of dicritical singularities

Gendered use of language in Facebook status updates among Jordanian and American youths: A sociopragmatic study

The study examines the types of speech acts of Facebook status updates that are posted by Jordanian and American youth. The participants were from Yarmouk University which is located in northern Jordan and from West Virginia University which is located in the US. The data was elicited from 50 American males, 50 American females, 50 Jordanian males, and 50 Jordanian females. Searle’s taxonomy was used to do the content analysis of the data. Searle’s taxonomy and additional speech acts were found: directive, expressive, assertive, God’s invocation, humor, and quotation. The findings of the study indicate that the religious and cultural background of the Jordanian students tremendously affects their linguistic choices when it comes to writing status updates on Facebook as opposed to the American students. The only similarity found in the results of the study was between American female students and Jordanian female students. Both female groups have the highest percentage of using expressive speech acts
