uma leitura do capítulo: : Seeing and theming, do livro The turist Gaze de John Urry
This brief paper aims, without great claims, to be a reflection on the seventh chapter, Seeing and Theming, of the book The Turist Gaze by John Urry. In the first part of the chapter, Seeing and being seen, Urry analyzes the issue of the tourist gaze and how photography, from the nineteenth century, has resulted in new ways of gazing, moving then in Themes and Malls to examine one of the specific aspects of the tourist gaze, relating it with a series of produced environments, oriented to tourist consumption. Thus, this short essay will be structured in two chapters, which correspond to the first and second part of the seventh chapter of John Urry’s book. After the analysis of these ideas, we will list other theories, of other authors, which could, perhaps, be connected to the subject of this chapte
Empowerment counselling in nursing well-child visits for healthy family lifestyles
Background: Empowerment counselling has long been assumed to improve people’s health and is encouraged to be adopted in routine healthcare. However, the questions as to whether empowerment reliably benefits preschool children and families’ health and whether it is being addressed in nursing well-child visits for healthy family lifestyles are yet to be addressed. The overall purpose of this thesis is to contribute toward the clarification and advance of empowerment counselling in nursing well-child visits for healthy family lifestyles. This thesis consisted of three studies.
Aims: To synthesize the existing evidence on health interventions using the empowerment concept with preschool-age children and families (sub-study 1). To develop a Portuguese translation and adaptation of the Empowering Speech Practices Scale and investigate its construct validity and reliability (sub-study 2). To describe and compare nurses’ and families’perceptions regarding the degree of empowerment counselling in well-child visits for healthy family lifestyles and explore its associations with nurses’ and families’ sociodemographic and nutritional characteristics (sub-study 3).
Design and Methods: We conducted a systematic literature review (sub-study 1), and an observational cross-sectional survey study (sub-study 2 and 3) with 82 families attending a 5-year-old well-child visit and 25 nurses from 12 health functional units situated in Portugal’s Central Region and the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon.
Results: In sub-study 1, only ten intervention studies met the criteria for inclusion, with 50% showing positive effects. Children’s participation was scarce. Overall, studies provided limited details on theory application. Sixteen promising behaviour change techniques were identified. Findings from sub-study 2 supported the Portuguese Empowering Speech Practices Scale internal reliability and construct validity, suggesting it has potential usefulness as a measure of empowerment counselling in 5-year-old well-child visits. Sub-study 3 showed that both nurses and families perceived empowerment had been practised to a high degree in the nursing well-child visits. Still, the domain of participatory practices of empowerment counselling can be expanded. The family’s limited familiarity with the health system, having children with overweight, and the well-child visits being conducted in Customized Health Care Units were associated with lower empowerment counselling scores.
Conclusions: The findings of the studies give valuable insights to plan further work needed to prove the effectiveness and meaningfulness of using empowerment counselling in well-child visits
The dosimetry plays a critical role in the general overall control of radiation and
particularly in medical treatment by ionizing radiation. In this work we simulate
intraoperative radiotherapy using the alanine as dosimeter to determine doses
in radiotherapy High Dose Rate (HDR). The process involves the measurement
of absorbed dose by dosimeters and furter comparison with the values
estimated by the IPO system of radiation - Porto. The analysis of the
dosimeters was made with the spectroscopy of electronic paramagnetic
resonance (EPR). To test the feasibility of this method in intraoperative
conditions, three experiments were performed, simulating typical radiation
associated with those conditions. In the experiments, dosimeters were placed
in a field 10 x 10 cm, respectively, and irradiated with 20 Gy, 22 Gy and 24 Gy.
A calibration curve in a dose range between 1 and 37.5 Gy is made. We
calculated the spin density, taking into account the theoretical reconstruction of
the EPR spectrum. The dose was assessed by reconstruction of the EPR
signal from the experimental spectrum, considering the calibration curve. In
comparing the results predicted by the IPO it was observed that the results
were within what one might expect, and let you draw a future framework in
areas of vital interest to control intraoperative radiotherapy
The user participation on facebook pages of the three Portuguese tv news channels – RTP3, SIC NOTÍCIAS, AND TVI24
In recent decades, the national and international media contexts, in particular television, media significantly changed. Although they were not created for the purpose, the role that social networks, in particular Facebook, have taken as a content diffusion platform is unquestionable. Nowadays, traditional media (radio, newspaper, television) use the Web’s potential to distribute news content (Canelas, 2011). Currently, all TV news channels in Portugal have a website or a page on social networks. TV stations have increased communication channels with the public on digital platforms and study strategies that promote the participation and interaction with the news content (Cazajeira, 2015). The TV / Internet convergence will not only reach the content, but also the consumer, who becomes an interactive and participative audience. This reality imposes on journalism a continuous and updated news production system, dependent on a user being permanently connected to the Internet (Cazajeira, 2015). In fact, an ERC report (2015) confirms the relevance that social media has assumed in the publication and consumption of news. Social networks are recognised as one of the most important means for news media consultation, right after television, and the practice of sharing news is very common among consumers of online news in Portugal. Furthermore, when compared to other countries analysed by Reuters Institute (Newman, Levy, & Nielsen, 2015), Portuguese consumers are those who make the most comments to online news, preferring social networks to news sites.
Considering the importance of new online platforms for journalism, this study aims to present a quantitative analysis of user participation on the Facebook pages of the three Portuguese TV news channels, specifically RTP3, SIC Notícias and TVI24, between 8 and 14 February 2016. To track this participation, the following parameters were used: the "like" button as a way to study the demonstration of publication interest; "sharing" of a particular element, be it a photo, a video or a text, on their own Timeline, the Timeline of a friend or by private message. This monitoring is important to understand the dissemination of news content; and the comments area. The number of comments will help understand the dynamics and the discussion that the publication has on the public.
The results of 1063 posts indicate that of the analysed parameters - "Like", "Comment", and "Share" – the one with the greatest power of participation among the users of the pages of the three Portuguese TV news channels is the "Like" system, followed by "Share" and then "Comment". Analysing the thematic that create the most user participation with "Likes" and “Comments” parameters are "Science and Technology". “Education” and “Humorous/Satirical/Unusual Finally, the publications available end of the night (10pm-1am) has better participation rates. The Instituto Politécnico de Viseu, the Center for Studies in Education, Technologies and Health (CI&DETS) and the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The presence of three Portuguese TV news channels (RTP3, SIC NOTÍCIAS, and TVI24) on facebook
The growing popularity of social networks, and their impact on the daily lives of consumers, contributed to news organizations marking their presence on different online platforms. In the case of Facebook, a social network that began as a personal space, it has gradually transformed into a content-sharing space (Oeldorf-Hirsch & Sundar, 2015). Nowadays, Facebook is the second most viewed website in Portugal (Alexa, 2016), and therefore, it has become crucial for Portuguese news agencies to be present on this social network.
Although television continues to be the main information source in Portugal, social networks, and specifically Facebook, are increasingly important in news consumption by users (ERC, 2015). This new way of news dissemination, as well as the proliferation that these contents reach in social networks, led to news agencies exploiting these new channels, both to attract new audiences, and to redirect users to their own websites (Castillo, El-Haddad, Pfeffer, & Stempeck, 2014). Thus, it is important to understand how, and what kind of content these agencies put on their Facebook channels, as well as the strategies they use to share these same contents.
This study aims to understand how the main news channels of Portuguese TV (RTP3, SIC Notícias, and TVI24) manage and use the social network Facebook to share news contents. To this end, the authors collected quantitative data of all posts placed on Facebook between February 8 and February 14 2016. Approximately 1063 posts were collected and analysed from the three Facebook pages. The results indicate that two of the three channels extensively used their Facebook pages to share and target content to their official websites. Regarding the news sources and type of media used, the three Portuguese TV news channels use similar strategies. However, in what concerns the main themes and quantity of messages per day, as well as the level of redundancy of information, the three channels manage their pages differently. The Instituto Politécnico de Viseu, the Center for Studies in Education, Technologies and Health (CI&DETS) and the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
últimas décadas, no espaço europeu.
This paper aims to reflect on the challenges of the exercise of citizenship, considering the
changes arising from the process of globalization, the European Union citizenship, and
massive migration flows that have been taking place in recent decades in Europe. As
established in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, citizenship corresponds to the mutual
recognition between the state and the individual; however, this condition is always preceded
by national origin. The theoretical debate on this issue has proposed the disconnection
between citizenship and nationality.
With regard to European citizenship, it is appropriate to deduce that it does not fully
accomplish the features of a post-national citizenship, since it requires the nationality of a
Member-State. Moreover, social and political changes states and their canonical forms of
sovereignty, along with the complex process of globalization, claim for a sociological work
of deconstruction of the concept of citizenship
Comparative study of the prevalence, clinical features, sensitisation profiles and risk factors for bronchial asthma between elderly and young adults in Cova da Beira
Background: Bronchial asthma is one of the most common allergic diseases
worldwide. Very few studies have analysed whether the prevalence of asthma decreases
with age. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to compare the prevalence, pattern
of aeroallergen sensitization and clinical features of bronchial asthma between elderly
and young adults. In addition, we also wanted to analyse possible risk factors for the
development of asthma.
Methods: This study followed a cross-sectional design. A standardised allergy and
asthma questionnaire and skin prick tests (SPT) were carried out in all volunteers. The
study population included two groups of individuals: elderly (aged 65 years and older)
and young adults (aged between 18-35 years) from Beira Interior. The sample was
selected by simple randomization, after calculating a confidence interval of 95% and an
estimated error below 5%. Statistical analysis was carried out using Chi-square tests,
Mann-Whitney U test, univariate regression analysis, binary logistic regression analysis
and Odds Ratio. A p value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. All
patients signed a written informed consent and the study was approved by the Regional
Health Authority Ethics Committee.
Results: A total sample of 1460 volunteers was included. Thus far, we have analyzed a
total of 27.6% of elderly volunteers in the Health Care Centre (median age = 73 years;
41.5% males) and 14.1% of the young group (median age = 28 years; 44.2% males). A
short questionnaire was applied by telephone to 11% of the total sample. We found
significant differences in the prevalence of bronchial asthma between elderly and young
adults (19.7% vs 29.4%, respectively; p=0.02; Chi-square test). In addition, the
prevalence of atopic bronchial asthma was also significantly lower in elderly than in young adult patients (32.1% vs 57.1%, respectively; p=0.02, Chi-square test). Both
groups were mostly sensitised to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and
Dermatophagoides farinae. Significant differences were found in terms of sensitisation
to grass pollens amongst elderly and young patients (11.8% vs 70.8%, respectively;
p=0.0006, Chi-square test). The majority of the asthmatic patients were sensitised to
more than one allergen. Finally, differences were observed in terms of risk factors for
bronchial asthma between both groups, with gender as a significant risk factor in elderly
patients and concomitant rhinitis in young patients. The presence of rhinitis augmented
the risk of having asthma 3.2 times, in the group of young adults.
média = 73 anos; 41,5% sexo masculino) e 14,1% do grupo de jovens (idade média 28;
44,2% sexo masculino).
At present, when considering models for initial teachers training the capacity toreflect on different aspects of teaching is valued. The efficiency of the approaches used to developthis capacity in the students is an open question. Knowledge about the results of the tools usedin initial teachers training may be enhanced by the analysis of one of the texts types where thereflexion is transcribed, the classroom observation report. The section of the classroom observation report centred in the critical comment is the objectof study. Hence, the analysis looks at the linguistic and pragmatics description of the utteranceswhere the critical reflection takes form. The results show a discursive organisation with a strong investment in movements of justification/explanation and repair, accordingly to the principles of courtesy/politeness in speech (Fonseca 1996), and in strategies of attenuation commonly present in the utterances of the discursive segment under analysis (Briz 2007), namely the assertive and appreciative ones.Data is relevant for the regulation of formation processes leading to the development of critical thinking and reflection about classroom practice for future teachers
